The reputation of a bloodthirsty Germany is at most two or three centuries old, but that’s besides the point. Your implication that the problem is inherent to Germans is absurd.

Yes, “people are people”. Their situations are different.

It is an unfortunate, and frankly dangerous, proposition that certain nationalities or “races” (don’t like the term) are intrinsically inclined to one negative trait or the other.

Well, if you look at documented history back to preChristian times, the Teutonic people have ALWAYS been violent and that history is not 2-3 hundred years old. Have you heard of Adolph Hitler? That is within the last century.

You know, I’m pretty sure if I look at American, British, French, Italian history I could make the same conclusions as you - they’re always violent.

You’re coming close to suggesting there’s something in the genetics of German people, which is a very dangerous road to go down.

You’re talking about a Germanic tribe (of many) and linking it directly to Germany the nation, which is in itself problematic, and besides the point. It’s a racist argument even if that wasn’t your intention.

Ya I can. Killing in the name of an ideology is always wrong, whether that means killing your own who disagree with you (as in the case of communism) or killing others who don’t meet your genetic standards (as in the case of fascism).

hmmm interesting. So i guess the American Revolution should have never happened by that logic. Ya know that group of people who wanted independence from the British and fought a war in order to obtain it.

Or how about the abolitionists who were willing to kill in the name of Anti-Slavery. I guess it was wrong to kill in the name of that as well.

Making the “another uneducated comment, etc…” could be considered to be typical of an arrogant CNN watching elitist. However, I’ve tried not to put you in a box, I’d appreciate reciprocal courtesy. 😃

I have tried to be careful in my wordsmithing. I did say “generally speaking” and “with deference to our German posters” so as not to be accused of stereotyping all people of German decent as bloodthirsty savages. However, that particular area of Europe has produced some of the most bloodthirsty and violent cultures known to mankind. The Saxons, the Franks, the Nords, etc… The historic sense of the Germanic people is that of periods of calm interspersed with periods of violent expansionism dating back nearly 4,000 years.
