Nobody likes to acknowledge it, but homosexuals tend to have significantly more sexual problems. Which is why this issue is a homosexual issue.
What? The priest pays to use the rectory??KJW5551:![]()
It all sounds good on paper but in my parish, we can barely afford to get the water stains on the walls fixed. The priest lives in a small rectory that has very poor airconditioning. We are just now working on raising funds to get these things and more fixed. Fortunately people are doing what they can to help, but we are a small parish in a small, not so wealthy community. In most all of our bulletins the budget is shown and we never meet the budget on our basic necessities, let alone offer free housing. We have to have a big fundraiser every year to keep the school up.free housing (yes, some rectories will need remodeling), free education at the nearest Catholic k-12 school, and a car paid by for by the diocese
Where would we get the money for free housing, and a car comes with expenses also. They need gas and repairs.
As I said, this all sounds good on paper but in reality, it would just add new problems.
I get that. From my protestant days I remember a lot of pastors had second jobs. The priest doesn’t get extra funding. He or she is given to manage the salary they have, as it is seen as their choice, not a matter of parish finance.
This, again, is something the Catholic church theorethically may do differently. As I said, there are examples. I didn’t say you would adopt them wholesale.

I didn’t say that. I said there are repairs that are needed and we can barely afford to do those let alone fix it up so a family could live there, including all the other costs that would come along with a family. What? The priest pays to use the rectory??
Hmmm, I never said that. I said that several major household costs would be paid for or mostly paid for by the parish/diocese, so it’s financially feasible. Logically it must be since the Eastern Catholics do it.I am surprised so many here are making it sound as if a raising a family is something that wouldn’t cost very much.
Many of the pastor’s wives I knew did stay at home when the kids were small. The pastor at the church I grew up in was an executive for a local corporation. He was given a small stipend by the church, but otherwise provided for his family on his own.How do you handle that if the priest and his wife would like the mom to be home with the kids? To me that means homeschooling is out, stay at home mom would be out. Many traditional Catholics believe in the mom and wife being home, at least part time.
That is what I remember when in protestant churches also. It would be hard for a Catholic priest to hold down a second job. Our pastor is extremely busy running three parishes. He has another priest helping but they are very busy. Many of the pastor’s wives I knew did stay at home when the kids were small. It wouldn’t be so hard on him if there were more priests and deacons!mrsdizzyd:![]()
