Public school is a godless place - I don’t know how you can make the statement you made.
I have a number of teacher friends whose personal reports lead me to believe the same thing.

She can make that statement because not all public schools are the same. I also work in our local public school and if they would allow God and prayer back into the schools our local schools would definitely be Christian. We have a number of Christians (including Catholics) in our public school system. Honestly, this really does depend on where you live. Like I said above, the more Christian an area is the more Christian the public school itself will be.

If you live in an area that is opposed to Christianity than the school will naturally reflect that. Where as if you live in an area that welcomes Christianity than the school will be the same.

Wow, such love and understanding. God is everywhere. We are all God’s creations. Even the Pharisees were God’s people. No love, no God. I went to Catholic schools that occasionally were void of love.

But even St. Paul said that if he had all the faith in the world but no love, it’s worth nothing.

It depends on how the child is raised. I ended up coming into Catholicism, but even before that, I knew not to conform to the crowd, to live morally, and to stand for what I believe in. Why? I had parents who not only taught that but lived it.

And really, there has to be a point in that person’s life where they make their own decisions, regardless of how they are raised. I’ve known people from good environments who turned out badly and vice versa. All parent’s can do is try.

What a slap in the face to all the wonderful Christian teachers and Christian students who spend their day in the public schools. Why is it Godless? They can take out the prayers, remove the ten commandments - never mention His name at all and yet He is there. Because HIS people are there.

Yes!

Get the kids out of public school!
Stop the injustice of wind and rain!
And end discrimination against leperchauns!

Do you know how many families in God knows how many developing countries around the world would give anything to have the public school access that we do? Not to mention the many families right here in America who can barely pay the rent let alone even think about private schools for their kids.

A school that forbids teaching about God is by definition Godless, whoever walks into it.

If a Christian walks into a whorehouse, he is certainly still a Christian – but how long will he remain one there?

Rather than ‘give anything’ for public school access, one should ‘give anything’ for access to the Lord’s Catholic education.

Ultimately better a poor Catholic with little education than a wealthy non-Catholic with a great one. But it is the duty of the parents to provide a Catholic education for their children. That is, both together.

Those who have little concern about God being in the lives of the teachers of their children… have little concern about God and His influence and work.

But there are plenty of people like this, who do not even know what it means to know and love God and the immense importance of moral, religious education above all other. It is hard for parents to look back and see how badly they have treated their children because of their own lack of Faith… but how much more necessary it is for them to begin anew, and not lead others astray in one of the most important works of the world…

Bringing a child to adulthood so that that child, will be a child of Heaven, and not of the world and Hell.

As Catholics, we are required to provide our children with a Catholic education. The Church allows parents to determine the best means to do that.

We can partner with a Catholic school. We can partner with a public school. Or, we can undertake the task ourselves.

The first two require much vigilance. A good Catholic school is a great blessing to parents.

I wish our Catholic schools were more orthodox, less accountable to the state, and were more affordable.

.
I am a Christian. I could literally spend the REST of my life in a whorehouse and I will remain a Christian. My status as a follower of Jesus Christ does not depend on where I am… it depends on WHO I am.

My sister is a psychologist who sees lots of high school kids for counseling–her advice is to get your kids out of the schools. She says that the environments are extremely toxic in the public schools. And she is not really talking about the teachers, there are so many kids coming from broken homes and painful situations that the way they treat each other is awful. Her practice is in a decent suburban area (Midwest values) and the issues that these kids come to her with are extremely serious and damaging. Think about who your kids are sitting in classes with for 7 hours out of each day. Kids who are drinking, drugging, hooking up, cutting, bullying, from broken families, unchurched, wiccans, atheists…the list goes on.

We do not raise children in whorehouses or amidst packs of wolves, trusting in their ability to defend themselves. We do not as adults stay in these places willingly. That is a sin, and it is a sin to carelessly court occasions of sin.

It is true that it is incorrect to merely call public schools ‘Godless’ in the strict sense. It is not enough to say only that they are ‘Godless’ without further explanation.

They are in fact, in the service of Satan, since anything that is not in God’s service is by definition in the devil’s. There is no ‘neutral’ path, Christ has made this quite clear – that those who are not with Him, are against Him.

Luke 11:23 He that is not with me, is against me; and he that gathereth not with me, scattereth.

We must not call ourselves Christians and speak against Christ at once, we must hesitate to speak for the longest time till we know the will of Christ.

We must listen to the Pope on this issue, he is not only a pope – He is a saint. We must listen to Christ on this issue, He is God.

May all who believe in Godless schools return to the Lord. Amen.

In addition. . .

How many people go into whorehouses and remain chaste? How many teenagers today go to the schools of today and remain so?

Homeschooling is the only choice in the majority of cases save in the sadly -rare- case of a good Catholic school system – which one would have a duty to move to be close to if it had to be.

Moreover the primary duty of marriage is the raising of children – to farm one’s children out to any school system at an early age, is bad for the children.

Is this too strict for some? Well then if you are resigned to your children inevitably becoming mortally sinful… you are resigned to too much. Do not give in to your ‘convenience’. It does not have to be that way. You can raise healthy and holy children who do not desert the Faith – if you are committed and willing to do what you are in fact required to do by God. 🙂

You will be all the more blessed by your children in eternity as well as this life for your care!

The ways of God are not the ways of this world. If your view of raising children is the same as someone who is not Catholic, or does not in fact sound unusual to someone who is not Catholic – you have failed. Do not fail in this vocation… succeed! 🙂

Why don’t we insist on school vouchers and demand this from our representatives? Public schools are financed from our taxes. We should have the option to redirect that tax stream to private schools (Catholic schools) of our choice that teach good Christian values to our children. This will not fix the public school system, but at least give a way out to parents that need an immediate solution for their school-age children.

I don’t believe in taking money from the devil - there are usually strings attached. In my native country the Catholic schools have accepted money and it has made them lose their way. Also look at American Catholic universities.

So I guess we should leave the unchurched, broken, atheist kids to pretty much live in their own carp? You know, some of these kids only get help from the kind friends in their lives and the parents of these friends who are vigilant.

Send your kids to public school, to Catholic school, homeschool them, I don’t care. But why are we condemning other parents for their choices? And can we start putting more responsibility on the parents? Regardless of how you educate your child, you have the responsibility to check out the school, keep in touch with the teachers, learn what goes on and keep the lines of communication open with your child.

Messed up kids come from all sorts of environments, homeschooling, public school, and Catholic school. As God is everywhere, so is the Devil.

Most often good kids are dragged down by the overwhelming influence of those who do not live well instead of the other way around. Are you willing to feed your children to the wolves before they have developed strength in virtue and character?

Of course, it is the responsibility of the parent to be involved and aware. Part of that is knowing the influences that surround your child in a school setting. While messed up kids may be from every school situation, what chances are you willing to take on your kids and who they are with all day long?

I have not condemned any parents’ choices for schooling their children. I have only given information and asked them to really think about what type of influences they choose to have surround their kids on a daily basis.

If a parent is involved and is doing their duty to be the primary educators of the faith (as we are called to be) then what do we have to fear?

What a major difference in philosophy!
We can be FEARFUL of this world and run and hide from everything it entails… OR we and our children can be a STRONG, EDUCATED, HOLY presence in this world.

I *expect *my children to be able to stand up for their faith… I am raising them to do this. I hope and pray that they can lead others to Christ.
How can they do this if they are ONLY exposed to people who already know Christ?🤷

jwatza,

I’m sure you mean well and probably do believe you are not condemning parents for their choices, but the very fact that you are bringing this topic up as a way to get other parents to “really think about what type of influences they choose to have surround their kids on a daily basis” could be construed as being extremely condescending and demeaning. As if most of the parents reading these boards haven’t “really thought about” the environments in which they have chosen to have their children educated! :bigyikes:

I know of lot of homeschooled kids. I know a lot of kids in Catholic schools. I know a lot of kids in public schools. I went to both Catholic and public schools myself, and my mother discussed homeschooling me at one point (I literally would have run away from home had she done this, because our home life was toxic, and I would have lost my mind being in that environment all day long). I’ve seen kids turn out well and I’ve seen kids horribly messed up from each of those three types of schooling environments. To suggest that one kind of schooling is the best for each and every child shows a very narrow kind of thinking. Parents need to prayerfully discern what situation is best for each of their children individually as well as for their family as a whole.

I agree in principle. That is why we are asking for vouchers. We then have the choice where we want that money to go to.

Well, I just think about who Jesus hung around with.

I thought that most people on CAF had pretty much agreed to let people make their schooling decisions on their own and not try to “out-holy” other people.

Some public schools are absolutely great. Some Catholic schools are marginal at best. Some homeschooling arrangements are bad for the children. Some schooling arrangements are just the opposite.
