Getting Rid of Homosexual Clergy

If a person has a preference for a word, I will use the word they prefer.

Otherwise, I can just as easily say “gay feelings” without implying any sort of lifestyle or commitment to only being attracted to someone of the same gender.

Gays are children of God whether they are celibate, “struggling with feelings”, having a temporary phase before moving on to a heterosexual relationship, or 100 percent solidly gay their whole lives. I don’t see the word “gay” as “identifying oneself by one’s sexual attraction/ orientation” and even if you did you’re no less a child of God.

It’s certain Catholics who seem to want to divide gays into two camps: “good” gays who “have SSA” who are resisting the urge and might even snap out of it, and “bad, militant” gays who have given in to evil temptations.
The first group are welcome as long as they don’t mind people reminding them 10 times a day that they have a “grave disorder” and gay sex is a sin in the eyes of the Church.
The second group are these awful bogeypeople out to destroy all we hold dear.
I’m not buying into either mindset.

These threads almost always miss the fact that human sexuality usually isn’t binary. There are degrees. What about a priest who had some incidental same sex contact as a youth and decided it wasn’t for him? Or a priest who is mostly attracted to women but has some slight, occasional attraction to men?

Human sexuality is messy and complicated. It doesn’t always divide neatly into “straight” and “gay.”
 
There will always be doubt. If your standard is 100% certainty, you’ll have no priests. I personally know two priests who requested to be laicized to marry women. I’m sure that wasn’t the plan when they entered seminary.
 
Here’s an idea. Remove all priests from the role of pastor and parochial vicar, and have the bishop appoint an administrator to run the secular/civil activities of a parish. Have all the priests in the diocese function as circuit riders, going to the parishes to say mass and administer the sacraments but not in a position to put “questionable” people in positions of authority or influence? Enhance and enlarge the activity and influence of the laity in parish life. Would difficulties arise, sure, but with patience and effort, it might work.
Would the bishops go for it. Well, gotta admit, doubtful.
Then again, it might be a solution in parishes where the problem of homosexual clergy exists.
