Because in all likelihood, what we perceive as “ghosts” are not dead human beings at all, but deceptive spirits using our longing for trans-death communication to mess with our heads.

I wouldn’t waste time or eye-strength on a ghost show. If it’s not rigged to draw viewership, it’s deception of an even worse kind.

Its very possible they are demons, but I thought there are ways to determine if this is true or not, example, a demon CANNOT encourage a person to seek God, CANNOT say he loves God, etc. Seems like it would be fairly simple to trick the demon into revealing itself.

Yeah, I think they’ve said that they could be demonic on the show.
They often visit old, abandoned prisons where the dead were violent criminals.
Well, if all these ghosts are demons, the location would not matter at all.

In fact, it would.

The goal of demonic activity is to **convince **living human beings that they are being haunted by the dead. Because we imagine that the dead favor places where they were once alive, infesting those locations would reinforce the deception.

Meaning they’re faking it or taking chances with demons?

If the latter, doesn’t that contradict our faith that teaches there aren’t ghosts, except possibly people from purgatory?
Nope…since the church has always taught that there are demons and demon possession.

Because to do otherwise would be a waste of time.

I mean all the locations are rumored to be haunted, but they never tape a show where nothing happens. It would seem to me that ghosts aren’t always going to present themselves on demand. 🤷

They wouldn’t waste tape and time if nothing happened. Nobody’d watch it and they’d only lose ratings.

Who’d give up a half hour, or an hour, to watch people shamble around and not see ghosts? Might as well shuffle around for half an hour and look at your own feet :)🙂

As far as I’m concerned, anyone who “wants” to see a ghost" has to much time on their hands that could be used for much better things, such as praying for those who get involved in these things, phony or otherwise!!! God Bless, Memaw

The Church doesn’t teach that kind of stuff. We need to learn what the Church actually teaches!!. God Bless, Memaw

Methinks **everybody **should get reacquainted with Church teaching.

Demonic possession is not just a “Church teaching” (the Church even has exorcists); it is a teaching of our LORD Himself in the Gospels.

I wasn’t talking about demons or demonic possession, I meant the kind of ghosty stuff they put on TV. Bumps in the night, ghosty figures haunting places etc. God Bless, Memaw

Oh, ok, correction taken.

I agree with you that most if not all of that is ginned-up hooey.

What really scares me is the growing interest in that sort of stuff over the past 50 or so years. The more we push God out of our society, the easier it is for Satan to move in and tickle our imaginations and cast doubt on the consequences of getting involved in it. Harry Potter has probably done more harm to our young people than most parents even imagine. If the devil doesn’t pull them away from God in one way, he’ll try another! And parents don’t seem to notice. God have Mercy on our young. God Bless, Memaw

It’s not just Harry Potter.

“Ghostism” is just one side of a dark coin whose reverse is spiritism and occultism.

These specific interests come and go (spiritism was huge in the 1800s; and occultism was at a max in the 1980s), but the coin remains the same. Human beings use it to try to buy off the fear of death, although the prospect of being a ghost can’t be that comforting.

I know it isn’t, I was just using Harry Potter as one example as to how parents are not concerned. . They may come and go as you say but the damage done is a wide path in our society. God Bless, Memaw

Didn’t one of our popes say Harry Potter was ok to read/watch?
As for myself, I read the first book but don’t like fantasy and didn’t continue on with the series. I did have a little uncomfortable feeling that it was the occultic but wasn’t really sure.

Care to clarify that?

Look at the St, Michael Prayer for instance.
