I would guess buying incense sticks of “Dragon’s Blood” and “White Sage” - especially “Dragon’s Blood” as it will get rid of any negative energies and spirits within the room you burn it. I suggest however, if you son still sees them, then the spirits are nothing to be afraid of…it is the negative spirits you need to be thoughtful off. But still start burning a stick of “Dragon’s Blood” just before you son goes to bed…to keep any negatives away.

Any keep up you prayers to Michael, and maybe see if you son could seek protection from his Guardian Angel 🙂

Hope that helps.
Not bad advice actually, sandalwood is also a good go to incense.

When I was younger I use to see people enter my room and surround my bed they were all black, I mean PURE black… Just typing this up make me feel like they are watching me. I even had a case of one garbing my arm an trying to drag me from my bed, at that age I thought it was the devil himself…

Hi AngelEyes:

My oldest son used to see them as well. It started when he was 3. When he was 3 he wasn’t aware of what it was he had been talking to. He just talked about his friend, a little boy who lived in the basement, so we figured it was a make believe friend. That is until he started saying things like his friend told him that he never saw the car that had hit him and other things like that. Well, that got me to thinking, so I asked him what his friend looked like and my son said you couldn’t really see him very well because he was dead. This came from a 3 year old. It was scary. A lot of things started to happen around the house at that point, and we had the opportunity to move, so we did.

My sense is that if these things your child is seeing aren’t interacting with him, he should be fine. It was the interaction that bothered me, and later some objects being thrown about without any explanation we could find. I’m not saying there was no explanation, but we honestly couldn’t find one. Because of the nature of my faith, I know some folks who would recommend things like smudge and the like, but I really don’t know about those things so much. My advice is to ignore them. I think these beings are attracted to the strong life force of children and adolescents, and I also think they love attention. One leader in my faith once said that they are no more “in the know” than we are, and there is nothing to gain from bothering with them.

Your friend

i believe in these cases the best thing you can do is pray for these souls …probably they need help to find their right place to be …in my homeland we have a specific devotion for the Holy Souls of Purgatory , we pray for the intercession of the Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel for the eternal rest of the Holy Souls of Purgatory …nobody knows our fate after death , and i think is a sign of piety to help these souls to rest …sooner or later will become just like them

God bless you

Saint Anthony’s Brief would help them too along with the exorcism …
Thank you ‘Zabulon’ this is great advice. God Bless you also. 🙂

Just to update everyone 🙂

I contacted my Parish Office and Father Joseph is coming over next week, hopefully Monday to do a ‘house blessing’. Yeah 😃 this is good news. This is not a usual thing for Priests to do here in Australia, apparently only 1 every few years, they just don’t get many requests. So I felt a little weird asking for his assistance.

I still have my doubts if it is required, as was said from a few of the responses here on the thread, it could be a 5 year old’s imagination, but I do feel this ‘blessing’ will not hurt. I think too, for me, it will be quite symbolic, to rid my home of my previous occult activities, I am sure this will make me feel a lot better too. 😉

Thank you all again for your wonderful support, you are like family that I have come to rely on, it’s great!:hug3:

Hello everyone…

Good to hear your having your house blessed. I’m praying for you and your family.
I’ve been seeing them since I was a child. This is a topic I usally avoid because people think your nuts or somthing. Some advise I was given was “Ignore them and they’ll go away. The more you acknowledege them the more power you give them.”

Pray to St. Michael.

Saint Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle.
Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray;
and do Thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host -
by the Divine Power of God -
cast into hell, satan and all the evil spirits,
who roam throughout the world seeking the ruin of souls.

Amen.

God Bless you:thumbsup:

Just in time for Halloween, eh?

Look, I hate to break up the make-believe party, but there’s no such thing as ghosts. They are – at best – figments of a very overactive imagination or dreams that are misremembered as waking experience.

If there actually were such things as ghosts, then we would be able to detect them in some way other than getting a spooky feeling or hearing noises that sound suspiciously like the house settling.

I mean, if it makes you feel all warm and cozy to have a magic man ghostbust your house, then have at it – but you have to admit that this is a silly kind of thing for adults in the 21st century to do.

like your silly little post…oooh your such an atheist/antitheist (whatever), wow man

Well, the second sense runs on my mother’s side of the family, and my Mom was regularly visited by her dead Grandmother during times of great stress. She was away at poor kids’ “fresh air camp” when her grandmother (who raised her) walked into her bunkroom and told her she had died but would always look after her. 10 minutes later, the camp director called my Mom into the office to tell her her grandmother had died int he hospital 4 hours away. This was just one of many visits - like when it was WWII and my mom was pregnant with my brother and hungry and my Dad was declared missing in action, and my Mom was in Macy’s NYC just for the warmth and saw her Grandmother come up the escalator and nod and smile at her lovingly - my Mom flew her pregnant body off the down escalator and scrambled past people on the up escalator but when she got there, her Grandma was gone. But she felt an incredible peace and the courage to continue on. And stuff has happened to me and others in our family, and so yes, I very much believe in spirits. Good and bad - spirits are spirits. Angels are spirits. God is a spirit. Spirits are real. We used to say “Holy Ghost” and now we translate it as “Holy Spirit.” Ghost - spirit. Same deal.

My son has seen his guardian angel since he was a baby. He claims he has two angels. and who are we to contradict. He doesn’t see them as much now that he is 14, but he still very much believes. He has Down syndrome, and we NEVER encouraged this seeing of spirits thing. It just is what it is.

Here is what we did: we blessed him every night before bed. We taught him the Our Father and Hail Mary and the Guardian Angel prayer at around 2 years old with the sign of the cross. We entrust him to the care and mercy of our Lady and the angels.

That’s it. If your child is not showing any upset or worry, no need to go scaring him with an exorcism or massive holy water spray. Angels are real, and they are spirits and some people DO see and have seen the angels - our faith teaches us that. Heck, at least one person even wrestled with an angel!

To dwell on it or worry over it is only to give some small power to any bad spirits that might be around. So best to just flash a quick prayer, a sign of the cross, and trust in the greater power of our Lord.

I’m going to take the common, atheistic/skeptical perception of things, and attempt to take for granted that any argument that is presented to me is based on falsehood. I’m going to do this merely because I think it is fun to make use of such devices, even if I do not believe they are always the best devices to use if we are to arrive at wisdom, as opposed to mere windbaggery.

Assuming that ghosts can be detected, what makes you think that the science of today has advanced to the point of being able to detect them?

This is really simple folks! Yes, children are susceptible to this and my own 5 year old grandchild (who is 14 today) used not only see things, he went into a trance and was having conversations with whomever. He saw three in the upstairs hallway and one in the living room. He took it very matter of factly…I actually had a cat who would literally be mesmerized for a long time looking at something above me. No matter how you moved him, he kept his eyes on something over me. My son was a witness to this. It’s not a big deal at all…

He outgrew it! I told my priest this and he said if he was not afraid, there was no worry at all. Actually, I helped this priest with an exorcism that lasted for 5 years (I was a prayer warrior, and also the victim was female). I thought this might have been a problem…but God was protecting me…👍

A priest blessing is good, very good. Burn anything that is related to the occult, remote even. Books, jewerally, incense, cards, pictures of any kind, etc etc. If you are suspicious, throw it out…well, I mean burn it. Cleanse the whole place of any contamination as this can have affect on the household. But I do not think that this is what your son is experiencing…

The essential question is how we are defining “ghost”, “demon”, “spirit”, etc. There are some who (overconfidently) insist/demand that a spirit must be physically/scientifically detectable. This is an example of the “If you can’t measure it, it isn’t real” fallacy.

Traditionally, if not axiomatically, defined, a spirit is a non-material entity. Since this view is accepted by nearly everyone, why do some insist that a spirit - like a material object - must be measurable? This unreasonable expectation is frequently found in the arguments of “new” atheists, who with faux open-mindedness, claim that they will accept evidence for God - but then add the caveat “so long as that evidence is of the same type that supports the existence of purely physical objects.” Obviously, this idea, this demand, is false, even absurd, from its inception… for the simple reason that God - not being part of physical existence, not being a material object - will not and cannot be “located” by physical means. God’s transcendent “No-Thing-Ness” can never be located by looking for it as a Thing, with methods designed only for Thing-detection. The same goes for any non-material entity, in which I am including ghosts, demons and spirits

Meister Eckhart and countless other mystics have said “God is seen in the soul”. The “eye” by which God is seen is called the Eye of Spirit or the Eye of Contemplation. The anatomical eye sees outward into the external physical world; the eye of spirit looks inward into the internal subjective world. Why do materialists demand spiritual evidence from the anatomical rather than the contemplative eye? Probably because they are framing the question erroneously.

The same with spirits: the eye by which a “ghost” is seen might easily be the same eye by which God is seen. A spirit - like the mystics’ God - may be present to inner awareness (even while for reasons yet unknown, it may simultaneously affect sound or camera equipment). This 'innerness" does not mean that spirit-sightings are illusory, any more than God-experiences are hallucinatory. It does mean that they are known from inside rather than outside.

The point to apply here is - whether we are dealing with a spirit or The Spirit - that both are non-material categories which by nature should not be expected to be materially-scientifically quantifiable. To have such an expectation is either to misunderstand the question (and commit a category error to boot); or to seek to weight the question in favor of the materialist viewpoint.

Regarding the question of spirit-recording by camera or microphone: I would suggest that - if spirits/ghosts are truly non-material - what the equipment records is not necessarily the ghost at all but rather a secondary effect or manifestation of a core entity or phenomenon which - in its true, native non-material state - cannot be materially detected or recorded.

I have heard from a priest that angels often travel in pairs. And I know someone whose guardian angel appeared to him when he was around 5 years old accompanied with another angel.

😛 You are a funny one, aren’t you 😛
You are obviously on the ‘Catholic Answers’ Forum because you are seeking answers yourself. Thanks for taking the time to reply, your view was ‘different’ to most out there.

I think there are people out there that have the gift of seeing or hearing ghosts. I believe most of us, don’t have the gift, this would be people like you and I 😦 Wish I had it but I don’t…although, for now at least, my son might.

There will always be things in this world that will not be able to be explained, even if someone could do this for us, would we, mere human’s understand it…I don’t think so.

One day, you will realise how wrong you are, and you will ‘thank God’ that he will still accept you with open arms. 😉

God Bless you.

Thanks ‘sojo’. Amazing story!!!
You are correct in what you say and a quick prayer is a good idea. I am actually getting the ‘house blessing’ done on Wednesday next week and my son will be at school. I am sort of happy about that as I didn’t feel the need for him to be here for it, I didn’t want to risk him getting frightened by it at all.
All will be well after Wednesday, for sure. 😉

Thank you ‘Zabulon’ this is great advice. God Bless you also. 🙂
I was also involved in the occult …but i have returned to catholicism …thats the reason i understand what are you passing throught …i also recommend to pray the rosary and the exorcism of Pope Leo XIII EVERYDAY , get the Saint Anthony,s Brief for your home , your son and one for you , the Saint Benedict medal is also a powerful sacramental , all of these must be bless by a priest …the Church has so many ways to combat evil is very rich …the brown scapular of our Lady of Mount Carmel is also another great way .

The reason your preist found unusual of you to get him to bless your home is because you live in Australia which is part of the british comomwealth , so the primary church must be the anglican , he has not many request for blessing homes or another things because catholism is not a majority …

WOW! That is good to know. As good Catholics, my son was instructed in the usual Guardian angel thing and that angels were invisible spirits. But he never bought it and always insisted he could see this own two. He was in the itty-bitty kids class (I always had to go as he needed an aid) taught the kids that each one had a guardian angel. They all nodded. Then the teacher asked, “can anyone see their angel?” and all the kids shouted “noooo” except my normally shy little boy who said, “YES!” The instructor gave me the “eye” and I shrugged, “yeah, he has always insisted he could see his angels.” And she asked - more than one? And my again, normally reticent son said, “TWO!”

One time I asked if his angels had names and he said yes, one was called John Peter but he didn’t know the other’s name.

Normally, my son is pretty non-verbal and when he was little, he was nearly fully non-verbal, so the very fact that he was able to tell us this stuff was pretty significant.

We always wondered about the “two angels” thing.
