The GOP platform does not include the elimination of the death penalty. They’re leaving the imposition of it to the Courts.
Small potatoes as many have said. The death penalty is almost never carried out. Many states don’t allow it and those that have it on the books in reality do not ever impose it. In fact our governor stated that he will NOT allow the death penalty in this state and if anyone comes close he will commute the sentence.

Dr Death however is perfectly fine with abortion and euthanasia.

I wouldn’t insist on removing the death penalty as a condition of supporting a candidate. Abortion though is another story.

More interesting and something Republicans need to counter is the idea that we want to starve widows and orphans, toss granny over the cliff, and close schools. Although none of this is true, the Dems have been very effective in promoting this image.

I hope we can counter this argument with some fiscally sound policies that still provide for the truly needy.

And on top of that the wealthiest counties in America voted overwhelmingly for Obama in both elections, yet Democrats were still able to convince the public that it’s the Republicans that are the party of the rich.
Not the party of the rich so much since they have Soros, Buffet, and others but THE PERCEPTION that they care only for the rich. What is it that you always hear the Republicans fighting for?

THAT is exactly right! If you look at the Democrats in Congress there are many more extremely wealthy individuals. They talk a good fight but tell me how much Nancy Pelosi has done as an individual and as a “Catholic” to help the needy, the poor, the helpless? They are very good at spending OPM and they are also very good at portraying Republicans as stingy, hateful and bigoted. The Republican brand is very tarnished.

Wow!

They really do count every vote! I didn’t know they did that- and kept track to such a degree. Interesting.
Yep, each candidate got 70,000+ more votes since yesterday. And this 5+ weeks after the election.

I guess the point is that it’s still too early to compare total votes against previous years. 😦

“The death penalty, is not intrinsically evil. Both Scripture and long Christian tradition acknowledge the legitimacy of capital punishment under certain circumstances. The Church cannot repudiate that without repudiating her own identity.”
austenbosten, not that I disagree here but how does this show it’s not intrinsically evil? The Church at one time burned heretics inter alia and now they’re saying they were legitimate? Do they still recognize those as “certain circumstances” because of identity concerns? I’m a little confused here.

This is more a commentary on their constituency, that the Dems able to so effectively pull this off to the extent that the empty suit got voted in for another term!

Easy to do when you have the likes of Norquist, Rove, Sununu, LImbaugh, Hannity, Coulter, and Priebus on the other side. Just sayin.

I was over Hannity a long time ago.Since the election,I have pretty much tuned out everyone else.Too much of an earache.Dennis Prager being an exception.😉

Add to that that it’s impossible to win against Democrats when they cheat in every way to win and own 98% of the media and worker’s unions. And on top of that the wealthiest counties in America voted overwhelmingly for Obama in both elections, yet Democrats were still able to convince the public that it’s the Republicans that are the party of the rich.
The entirety of the DNC platform should be

The Ends justify the Means. Get over it.

Jeanne ah a fellow Prager listener. I think overall the Salem hosts are well spoken, reasonable, pragmatic and don’t make my ears bleed. I also listen to Bill Bennett (a fellow Catholic) and Hugh Hewitt (calls himself a Catholic evangelical). I think if more people understood that the average Republican is not a pot and pan banger, screaming meemie, we could make inroads to a number of previously Democrat controlled constituancies.

Of course the irony is that Democrats can get away with saying the most hateful, nasty things about women (if they are not Democrats!) or blacks (if they are not Democrats) and somehow their “halos” are never tarnished. The things said about Sarah Palin, Condaleeza Rice, Clarence Thomas etc would have resulted in public outcry had the speaker been a Republican and the subject of the vitriol a Democrat. The double standard is alive and well 🤷

Clinton says ‘right now’ she has ‘no intention of running’ in 2016
What do you think? I have to be skeptical that she WILL run although I think she’ll keep everyone guessing since she becomes irrelevant (and worse yet BILL loses the spotlight) once she’s nothing more than a former Sec of State and First Lady.

Although I do not understand why, apparently she is well thought of in her current role and better to take a bow and leave on a high note than get back into the trenches, face another loss and end up in the dustbin of history.

No offense and don’t take this the wrong way but I have to confess that I listen to Rush Limbaugh a lot and this seems like something he would say. Just sayin.

BTW, it took 11 Senate Democrats to confirm Clarence Thomas (and he was barely confirmed) so proceed with your double-standard attacks.

The fact that Rush Limbaugh made a statement does not mean it’s either inaccurate nor inflammatory. Are you stating there is NOT a double standard in the MSM? One might expect inflammatory and partisan language from a pundit or commentator, but I am referring to what passes for network news, mainstream newspapers such as NYT and WaPo.

I suggest you read Clarence Thomas’s autobiography if you want to know the extent to which he was attacked before, during and after his elevation to the Supreme Court. Despite all evidence to the contrary, he is marginalized, called a “dummy” or Uncle Tom. Meanwhile when a black DEMOCRAT Congressman asks a general about Guam tipping over due to Marines in one area, no one in the MSM feels such idiocy is worthy of note.

The double standard exists. I’m surprised anyone would deny it.

Let’s try this one more time: “I was not making a comparison between the death penalty and abortion. I was just pointing out an error about what is/is not in the GOP platform.”

And if you think that killing another person is “small potatoes”, I’ll let you believe what you want. Not my problem.

Irrelevant at any rate. Death penalty issues are state not federal. The GOP would be wasting its time on a non-issue.

More important is finding candidates who can articulate the conservative cause without blundering into female biology or marginalizing half the population in this country
