This is the logical fallacy of appealing to authority.
Anti-Catholics make the same statement.
And what makes you so sure you are the only one here who has been in organized debates against anti-Catholics?
I think no such thing.
And why do you then ignore Bill Donohue who has used other venues to deal with anti-Catholics?
Bill Donahue of Catholic League. A league of one. I know nothing of him other than that.

RidgeSpinter . . .
Bill Donahue of Catholic League. A league of one. I know nothing of him other than that.
Since you already appealed to yourself, how many belong to the league of RidgeSprinter (because I want to hold you to the same standard as you are using).

Do you think that there are no members outside of Donohue in the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights? Is that what you are attempting to imply?

Kamala has displayed her anti-Catholicism. At least that is my opinion.
RidgeSprinter’s reply? . . .
Yes, it is your opinion. . . you’re (sic) opinion and that of others that have posted op-eds amount to nothing.
.

To the readers here.

I think RidgeSprinter’s comments are instructive in a sense, in and of themselves.

Bill Donahue, the man who argued that many of the offences commited by clergy and lay brothers against kids in Ireland were ‘acceptable’ in the time period they occurred. That made him stunning popular in Ireland as you can imagine.
I want to see the quote and context myself.

Also. I could just as well say of Biden and Harris . . .

The people (Biden and Harris) who have argued and continue to argue that the premeditated murder of known innocent people is “acceptable”.

The word that you quoted (“acceptable”) was missing from your quotes and your link source.

(name removed by moderator) . . .
And this is what you take from Donahue’s minimizing of such a serious situation?
No and you are impugning my motives.

What I meant is just what I said.

Here again is what YOU said . . .
Bill Donahue . . argued that many of the offences commited by clergy and lay brothers against kids in Ireland were ‘acceptable’ in the time period they occurred.
Bold mine.

I did not think that was accurate. So I asked you . . .
I want to see the quote and context myself.
So far you have not provided what I asked for.

I am now thinking it doesn’t exist.

(name removed by moderator) (when I asked about his QUOTE of Bill Donohue) . . .
The situation in my home country . . .
Just show me what you QUOTED.

Just show me where Donohue said ANY of this was “acceptable”.

Like I said. At this point, I don’t believe it exists.

It is a tragedy that has fear reaching repercussions for Irish society and the Irish people.
I assume you are expressing disgust over the homosexual men who were hiding out in the priesthood in Ireland, then acted out their objective disorder against youths and Pope Francis apologized and lamented about how they had failed to protect the little ones.

I agree with ALL of that. (I can’t speak for Donohue, but I think he agrees with all of that too.)

Pope on sexual abuse: ‘We showed no care for the little ones’

Mon 20 Aug 2018

Francis condemns culture of cover-ups and promises zero tolerance in letter to Catholics

Pope Francis has publicly acknowledged the failures of the Roman Catholic church in dealing with sexual abuse by priests, attacking a “culture of death” and deferential “clericalism” that helps perpetuate evil.

An unprecedented letter from “His Holiness Pope Francis to the People of God” was issued after almost a week of mounting pressure following the publication of an excoriating report into abuse by priests in Pennsylvania. . . .

. . . He added: “It is essential that we, as a church, be able to acknowledge and condemn, with sorrow and shame, the atrocities perpetrated by consecrated persons, clerics, and all those entrusted with the mission of watching over and caring for those most vulnerable. Let us beg forgiveness for our own sins and the sins of others.”

The letter did not propose any specific measures or sanctions against bishops who have been found to cover up abuse or . . .

At this point I feel it best I no longer answer you on the subject, this is deeply personal to Irish people
in a way you cannot comprehend . . .
Bold mine.

How do you know?

How would you know if myself, or our family and/or extended family has not been victimized by the homosexual predators who have infiltrated the priesthood here in America too?

It’s not just a deeply personal affront for Irish.

I have no wish to talk to you about this further.
I have no wish for you talk to me about this further here either so we are in unison here.

.

To the readers though: Look above and read the posts and the accusations against Bill Donahue.

Then ask yourself if those accusations were founded.

Here is SOME of what I had to say . . .
Just show me what you QUOTED.

Just show me where Donohue said ANY of this was “acceptable”.

Like I said. At this point, I don’t believe it exists.
I won’t need to draw your conclusions for you as they are not subtle.
It will be quite evident to draw them yourselves.

I’m not seeing where Donohue called any of this ‘acceptable’ but I was troubled by his claim that someone staring at you in a shower is somehow not a big deal.

I’m not a fan of his in general. He made a horrific quip about prison rape once that turned me off his organization.

I don’t know what all Donahue said or what it was like in the Catholic orphanages in Ireland 70 years ago. But I will say this. I was never kicked by a sister, but I sure was smacked by some of them. Likely I had it coming, and it was no worse that what I got at home. My parents were not what one would have called “abusive” at the time. Not at all. But if I seriously misbehaved, I would get spanked. If I was particularly bad, my mother would send me out to the woods to get my own stick to be spanked with. The hunting for it was far worse than the spanking I got with it.

My mother’s mother died when my mother was 10. My grandfather lost his farm in the Depression and had two young girls to raise the best he could cutting wood for a living. Among those to whom he provided wood was a convent of sisters who would sometimes take in orphans when they could. My grandfather paid my mother’s keep with firewood. But firewood in a large house (which the sisters had) has trouble keeping a place warm, and they didn’t keep it going at night, but banked it.

If my mother needed to go to the bathroom at night, it was outdoors in an outhouse where the temperature was no higher than the outside air. I understood that well because when I was a kid myself our “bathroom” was an outhouse and our heat was wood.

I’m guessing that Ireland was poorer still back then and orphanages had to heat with what? Peat? And I’m guessing food was not plentiful either, because of relative poverty. When I was a kid, we at least had our own cattle. But an Irish orphanage?

Maybe those places were all abusive, but I suspect being poor in Ireland at the time was significantly worse than in the Ozarks.

even the LA Times chimed in against her position
Good point.

Vice President Joe Biden has just picked as his running mate Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.), a woman who believes Catholicism is an extreme set of views that should disqualify someone from public office.

The beliefs of the Knights of Columbus align directly with the positions of the Catholic Church.

Her insinuation that membership in an organization that is pro-life should be relevant to whether one could be an effective judge is absurd. She further expressed distaste for the group’s disagreement with same-sex marriage, again a belief of the Catholic Church.

. . . . Its 2020. We are at war. The secular pagan left wants us in prison for our faith. Wake up. And liberal/left Democrat catholics: wake up too. And get over your tribal party loyalties. Make your choice: is it party/ideology or your faith? . . .

Does this piece from the National Catholic Register effectively support Gingrich’s claim?

Yes, however, in reality we do not need Newt Gingrich to tell us that Kamala Harris is an anti-Catholic bigot. Harris is decidedly anti-Catholic and has always been. Harris would force the Little Sister’s of the Poor and every Catholic institution to promote abortion and other actions that are against the teachings of the Church … that is a fact.

Those points being made in the article are in the public record - so people are aware - it is not new information.

A host of people realize the anti-Catholic bigotry. Many celebrate it - perhaps they are like Joe Biden - they like to profess their Catholic identity - but they are in truth culturally Catholic at best - they do not hod to the faith foundations - for them there s no objective Truth … its all relevant … the ends justify the means, abortion is okay and a right - its settled law, etc.

For many Catholics that try to live their Catholic faith - in fidelity with Church teaching and who live in anti-Catholic areas - the bigotry is there, the impacts are real …

In 2016, as Attorney General of California, Harris was behind the raid of his apartment, in which authorities seized a laptop and several hard drives that contained the videos he filmed as part of his expose of Planned Parenthood. Some of the confiscated drives contained “some very damning footage that has yet to be released to the public,” he said at the time.

One of many issues of Catholic Doctrine that Kamala Harris is on the anti-Catholic side.

Instead of prosecuting Planned Parenthood, Kamala Harris went after the messenger, David Daleiden.

My! If she went after an individual, did we give him the mantle of being pro-Catholic? If the person investigated Planned Parenthood, is everything they do anti-Catholic?

You suit actions to your conclusions and do not follow a logical line. I don’t know if there are sides, but saying Ms. Harris took the anti-Catholic side is a misnomer.
