And you’re suggesting that Glenn Beck who regularly misrepresents what the Catholic Church teaches not to mention his selective interpretation of American history is a beacon of honesty?
His desire to be a solider of Christ under the tutelage of the Holy Spirit is as authentically honest as anyone’s.

In terms of his politics, you may indeed disagree with his understanding of history, or presentation of Church teaching, but that hardly means he is intentionally misrepresenting either.

This rally is a symptom of what is going on with the country’s consciousness. People are mad-I suspect most of them are like -me shaking their head in disgust at the state of our national government in waiting for November.
And what good is Nov going to bring? More divided govt with conservatives having greater control of Congress. Dems still having the WH. We’ve done the divided govt thing before and nothing gets done.

So you’ll say yes but wait till 2012. Give back control of WH to the R’s. But been there. Done that too. Then you’ll say the Senate fillibustered.

But rarely does one party have 60 votes in the Senate so that’s an ongoing problem regardless of party. And even with 60 votes in the Senate not everyone walks in lockstep so in reality it can take more than 60. A rarity indeed. Both parties use the fillibuster to hold up things in the Senate.

So it’s nothing but an ongoing circle. 🤷 Take this yr. Ok we don’t like the bums in there so we’re going to go back to the bums who got us here in the first place.

And then we can repeat it all the next time.

The 2 parties and corporations and lobbysists have so much control. And 3rd parties, liberal or conservative, usually can’t for instance even get into Presidential debates. .

Add repeat that all next time magnified many-fold by the contributions of corporations - oops, I mean people - intent on manipulating the political system for their own ends. So that’s what’s going to be different: “We the corporations of these United States…”

The Catholic Church correctly elevates this issue as a primary focus for our political decision making for indeed no other issue is affecting us so gravely.
Tell that to the poor homeless vet. Or to the fellow on my street corner who was arrested for standing there and is now trying to survive there in 90 degree heat selling bottled water for a buck. So he can take that buck and buy a small cheeseburger on the value menu of the fast food joint across the street. Tell that to someone who can’t afford adequate heathcare. Tell that to someone who has lost their home. Tell that to someone who is out of work. To a starving child. Then you’ll see abortion is not the issue so gravely affecting most folks walking the earth. Peace.

PS- Heck gay marriage and stem cells probably aren’t even in the top 3. Well unless someone grasps onto hope that maybe just maybe stem cells might help cure their parent’s onset of alzheimers or something some day.

You make it sound like corporations are intrinsically evil.

Corporations employ people. Corporations provide goods and services that benefit all of our lives. People own stock in corporations as part of their 401K retirement plans and are ultimately able to live in retirement at least somewhat comfortably, if not better. Corporations often make contributions, in many cases huge ones, to benefit society. Corporations do a lot of good.

I own a small (very small!) company. We have one employee besides myself. The employee, who is part-time because that is all the company can support, is the sole wage-earner in the family, her husband is a disabled veteran. We’re not a corporation, although it might be smarter to be one for various reasons. We struggle to make a profit, especially in today’s economy.

Even “profit” is sometimes demonized by some people, as if it is evidence of someone taking advantage of someone else, but it isn’t. Our “profit” (if we have one) is the only “salary” I get. If there is no “profit”, then I earn nothing, no matter how many hours I work. I don’t imagine those people who so often demonize corporations would be willing to work for free as I often do. Contrary to what many people seem to believe, small business owners are not all “fat cats” living off the labor of others. Sometimes they are the people, like me, who get paid last. And if there is nothing left after paying everyone else, they get nothing at all. Yet we provide a means for others to make a living.

I find the demonization of people trying to make a living, no matter what the legal structure, to be very troubling. No one demonizes workers who are employees of corporations or other types of business entities, but the business entities themselves, no matter what the legal structure, are often criticized for various reasons, as if they are somehow bad. As if making a profit is somehow evil. If and when those who work for a company are willing to show up and work for free, as I often do, maybe I’ll be more willing to listen to such complaints.

You apparently missed the whole 401 dive, the recession, dive in home values and all that. My home for instance is worth about 25% of what it was worth 4 yrs ago and most of that loss occured before Obama. Though to be sure it’s still falling. It’s now worth less than I pd for it 12 yrs ago. Oh and I’m getting like no return on liquid savings. Healthcare costs? Don’t ask. But health insurance companies? Banks? Corporatons? Yep still making the profits.

Add repeat that all next time magnified many-fold by the contributions of** Unions** - oops, I mean people - intent on manipulating the political system for their own ends. So that’s what’s going to be different: "We the **Unions **of these United States

Btw-I am not not in favor of removing either groups contributions from the poltcal arena.

I didn’t miss it. And by examining the facts, I also know that it didn’t happen as a result of the policies of any one person or any one political party.

But please note, it was not the Republicans that were in control of Congress at the time that everything went south. The Democrats had been in charge starting years before. So if you want to be fair, instead of partisan, you have to admit that there is plenty of blame to go around.

It will be replaced by all the other concerns of the country, but my guess is primarily by ongoing struggles with the economy and then, of course, by the Nov. elections. In America, faith is private. There is nothing much to DO in public about it. We get reminded of salvation and its blessings, then we have to get up for work again the next morning and worry about any possibility for retirement without suffering.

I actually think that Beck has the emptiest show on Fox. (although, I probably don’t know them all). He says nothing but empty platitudes.
Larkin as is often the case you hit the mark. 👍 When did Beck have his rally again? 😃

Estesbob, you do understand don’t you unions are nowhere near as large as they once were?

We cab even go back as far as Jimmy Carter who thought everyone should own a home. And I remember Bush saying that Fanny and Freddie should be reined in and Barney Frank saying it was perfectly sound—NOT.

Hey I just voted for a socialist who I knew stood zero chance but who was running in a Dem primary vs a centrist-conservative Dem as a protest vote. Now I might come to my senses by the general and vote for my lesser of 2 evils as they say. But be assured I’m blaming the Dems too for no public option and agree plenty of blame to go around. 👍 Peace.

You are reading into my post, demonization that isn’t there. Corporations are not inherently evil (any more than people) - I work for one. My point was that we are straying from making our political system about “we the people” and at risk of making it about “we the corporations”. If that’s what “we the people” really want, then fine…if it is not, seems to me like they’ll be at a disadvantage in voicing that.

Corporations are a collection of people.

You don’t have to answer if you find it silly. I heard talk of honesty, integrity, the Holy Spirit and a speech given by God (and that’s just since joining this thread)…is it off the deep end to ask if he is a preacher now?
For someone who is so offended by people questioning Obama’s religion I see you have no issue poking at Mr. Beck’s faith.

Pot meet kettle.

All the people you mentioned are alive.

The aborted baby died.

I’d rather have Alzheimers than kill a baby to avoid it.

Desperate to discredit 550k to 1 million people who came from all over our country to pray.

Not including the hundreds of thousands who watched online or watched Cspan yesterday… who were praying right along with them.

The anger from some on the left over this is a sure sign satan has a hold on people. Nothing could have made satan more enraged than yesterday.
