Global or Local?

I think that prior to the Flood, there was a layer of the atmosphere
that was made up of water molecules, as Gen. 1 states in v.7
“So God separated the waters that were under the dome from
the waters that were above the dome” Also it would explain why
people on earth lived so long before the flood, because the “dome”
of waters in the atmosphere filtered out the ultraviolet rays of the sun!
The rain of forty days and forty nights was NOT from the clouds, but
from the dome of water above the sky!!!
I can’t find it now, but I read that the idea you proposed is impossible. Something to do with the dome would have prevented life on earth.

I found it. Among other things, “it would raise the atmospheric pressure raising oxygen and nitrogen levels to toxic levels.”

“If the canopy started as vapor, any water from it would be superheated. This scenario starts with most of the flood waters boiled off. Noah and company would be poached.”

Where did all the water come from?

Where did it go?

Where did Koalas come from?
The earth if you compare its highest peak and its lowest (below ocean) depth is how many kilometres?

Now if those depths for a moment rose up? The fountains of the deep? How much land mass would be engulfed?

Where did it do? Back to the deep.

Where did Koalas come from? Where did the sulawesi bear cuscus come from? Australia? No. Vice versa? Maybe. Where have rhinos been? Indonesia? America?

My country NZ has a large variety of unique birds including moa and haast eagle and kiwi. Yet we are not a separated bio-system. Our unique “species” have kin in south america. Not so unique.

What percentage of the air is oxygen? What percentage of the air is nitrogen? What percentage of the air is carbon-dioxide? How would pressure affect the external barrier while keeping the internal barrier constant? How would oxygen be toxic?

How can something boil water superheated when the Sun cannot do it? And more importantly do you believe everything you read on the internet?

When it comes to science I’ll take science based information over fundamental religious information. 🤷

Let me start by saying that I don’t want this thread to turn into an argument. I’ve been PMing someone about this topic and was curious what others think.

Do Catholics have to believe the Flood was global or are we free to believe it was a local flood?
This should probably be a poll. In any case “local” is in line with Church teaching.

God isn’t bound by rules, He can create more water and make it go away afterwards.

After Noah everybody was scattered around the world so God had to move the animals around too.

A local flood makes no sense.

When are you going to respond to post #36? Or don’t you have any answers?

In other words you cannot answer? You need people to supply you with answers where you cannot. And science is the ultimate answer to all questions? That would be great if we were to ignore and not question God’s science. The greatest skills are missed theology and philospohy.

Between you and me, I would much rather search God than trust in man’s science.

Whatever. I’m not in the mood to find out all the particulars; just know what I posted and it makes sense to me.

Wisdom 14:6 Why, in the beginning, when the proud giants were perishing, the hope of the world took refuge on a raft and, steered by your hand, preserved the seed of a new generation for the ages to come.

Matthew 24:37 'As it was in Noah’s day, so will it be when the Son of man comes.

38 For in those days before the Flood people were eating, drinking, taking wives, taking husbands, right up to the day Noah went into the ark,

39 and they suspected nothing till the Flood came and swept them all away. This is what it will be like when the Son of man comes.

Still no response. What about post#36? Georgia’s knows more about this stuff than we do, so why don’t you answer him?

Firstly I don’t know Greek, I wouldn’t get into a debate about the Greek language.

Secondly, you think our all powerful God is unable to cause a worldwide flood?

Eight souls were saved, how many people do you think were living in the world at that time?

A local flood that shipped Noah all the way up to modern day Armenia?

Mount Ararat is 16,854 feet tall, to bring water that high would engulf much of the world.

There was never a human bottleneck of fewer than maybe 10,000 people, much less 8. Other than your interpretations, what makes you think there was?

It was not Jesus’ intent to teach about the particulars of how the flood happened.

Jesus was using the story of Noah in the flood to teach about salvation, about being ready for His return at the end of time, that’s all. Those who are prepared will be saved while those who are more concerned with day to day activities and ignore God’s word will be swept away.

Jesus’ words have zero to do with whether the flood was global or local.

Notice that the “hope of the world” are those who are part of God’s plan of salvation which, at that time, flowed through Noah and his family. That they “took refuge on a raft” and were preserved doesn’t imply that all humans were imperiled, but just that the “hope of the world” were – that is, those from whom would come the chosen people of God.

All whom Jesus is talking about were swept away; but, does He say that “all people were eating, drinking,” etc? Or is it just that an unspecified number of “people were eating, drinking,” etc? 😉

Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out!

The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may follow all the words of this law.

Historically the flood is regarded as global. It is only the last 200 years that this has been raised as a question, and only when men anthropomorphed God’s power, and bounded Him to His own creation.

Thanks a lot!

All I’ve got in my mind now are 10,000 people crammed together like some nightmare Post Office queue.

😃

As for the flood, it was global which is why there were strange animals appearing in England. (I mean the bones and things dug up).

As you know, I disagree.
