Eeeeewwwwwwwwww!!!

Only if it goes through a water treatment plant first. 😃

I still can’t believe that Sheryl Crow is serious.

And I can’t believe she thinks that any of us should care about her opinions on the environment. She’s what, a singer? When she feels like dispensing advice on singing, then I’ll listen to her.

If you look at her quote, she apparently equates our being “industrious enough” with being able to get by on just one sheet of toilet paper. How does that compute? Do industrious people somehow have less to wipe? Do lazier people have more?

She’ll agree to 2 or 3 sheets for “pesky occasions” – that’s not enough paper even for non-pesky occasions. 😃

Oh, by the way, I just read vern humphrey’s description of the “one-sheet” technique. :rotfl: :rotfl:

I love it when actors or singers try to tell people how to live and act as though they have solved the world’s problems!

Everybody has a different role in society. Some in society help in ministering to our faith. Some cure the sick in society. Some build streets and bridges. Some feed society. Some are deep thinkers and are leaders of society. The role of the actor is to play pretend for my amusement! The role of Sheryl Crow is to sing for my amusement! After what she has said I would not trust her with the potty training of my child!

Well, my role in society is to count beans, so I will be getting back to that now. Good day.

Some day we will have someone in Congress with common sense, and in some committee he will question the qualifications of some TV star who’s testifying on a complicated subject dear to their empty-headed hearts.

Naturally, some other congressman will object, and tell him, “We’re trying to move this along.”

And if he has a hair on his posterior, he’ll reply, “In that case, we should limit our witness list to people who know what the Z%$#@ they’re talking about.”

It was a joke. And if you read it in its full context it is OBVIOUS it is a joke:
Although my ideas are in the earliest stages of development, they are, in my mind, worth investigating. One of my favorites is in the area of forest conservation which we heavily rely on for oxygen. I propose a limitation be put on how many squares of toilet paper can be used in any one sitting. Now, I don’t want to rob any law-abiding American of his or her God-given rights, but I think we are an industrious enough people that we can make it work with only one square per restroom visit, except, of course, on those pesky occasions where 2 to 3 could be required. When presenting this idea to my younger brother, whose judgment I trust implicitly, he proposed taking it one step further. I believe his quote was, “how bout just washing the one square out.”
I also like the idea of not using paper napkins, which happen to be made from virgin wood and represent the height of wastefulness. I have designed a clothing line that has what’s called a “dining sleeve.” The sleeve is detachable and can be replaced with another “dining sleeve,” after usage. The design will offer the “diner” the convenience of wiping his mouth on his sleeve rather than throwing out yet another barely used paper product. I think this idea could also translate quite well to those suffering with an annoying head cold.
This next idea I have been saving but I will share it with you if you promise not to steal it. It is my latest, very exciting idea for creating incentive for us all to minimize our own personal carbon footprints. It’s a reality show. (I feel pretty certain NO ONE has thought of this yet!). Here is the premise: the contest consists of 10 people who are competing for the top spot as the person who lives the “greenest” life. This will be reflected in the contestant’s home, his business, and his own personal living style. The winner of this challenging, prestigious, contest would receive what??.. a recording contract!!!
Does anyone really think Sheryl Crow is interested in rinsing out toilet paper, wiping food on her sleeve, or awarding recording contracts to people who live green?

It sounds like it was intended to be a joke, but coming from an entertainer, you never know. We’ve heard very bizarre things from entertainers before.

I agree in that stranger things have come very intentionally out of celebs mouths! She is an outspoken “green,” using her celebrity to leverage her voice and opinion. Well, maybe for once, this was a “botched joke” by somebody. Because it really wasn’t that funny.

Laugh – but when the glaciers melt and Bengladesh goes underwater and hundreds of millions of people drown (as a frequent poster here assures us will happen) you’ll be beating your breast and saying, “If only I had used less toilet paper!”😃

It doesn’t make a whole lot of sense technically either

Sure on the surface using less of anything if possible is good

BUT

Paper is a renewable product and it is domestically produced
And TP in particular is designed to breakdown quickly and easily in a treatment plant (I know, I know, the energy used to produce it and treat it is not necessarily renewable… but it could be)

Besides that (with the exception of Halloween) I don’t see extravagant TP usage as a big issue

How much more (or less) could the average person use? I use what I need to get the job done and move on thank you.

At best she just gets herself labeled as another wacky entertainer mouthing off at worst she tars serious recycling or materials reduction efforts with the same brush.

Tangential note: A lot of paper producing timberland is going up in smoke with those fires in Georgia. I’m not sure if it is getting any news coverage natinally. I’m 200 miles away and I could smell the smoke the other day. If we don’t get some rain soon we might all be forced to share TP.
😉
