If all I get from others is hate, put down, ignored, rejection, disallusionment then how am I to love for ever and have mercy get peace any one or all of these?
This world seems to be built on everything but God, life is so hard and so evil! so how am I to love Gods way?

I know what you mean, LO. I suffer Bipolar Disorder and my parish knows about this - ten years ago all manifestations and evidence of any sort of mental illness began a very quick indeed vanishing process and I am now, my doctor assures me, as chronically normal:D as any person. My parish (been in it for 23 years now) still avoids me - for example, today at a bus stop I happened to sit next to another female parishioner, a minister of The Eurcharist. It was the only vacant seat. I said hello to her and she turned and there was suddenly a look of horror and distaste on her face. Her next reaction was to quicly gather all her parcels very close to her (they were next to me)…not satisfied with that she bundled them all on her lap…and then two minutes after that gathered all her parcels and went and sat on another bus stop - although she catches the same bus as me. :rotfl: I am now at the stage where I laugh about it all. I was telling my director today that my parishioners if they see me want to duck out of sight (after Mass when people are talking) so I duck out of sight on their behalf before they have to duck out of sight. I can only laugh about all this and feel sorry for them and their quite antiquated, I am sure, notions of mental illness. Heaps of stories like that in my ‘bag’ - but not baggage I carry. Useless baggage!
If you suffer mental illness you have to learn to deal with all types of negative reactions, or you will go under. I have long experience over 30 years of dealing and trying to deal with weird reactions to me once it is known I suffer mental illness.
I have offered in the recent past four times to do something needed within the parish and volunteers called for. Every time I am met with, “we’ll call you back” and they never ever call me back. A nun was recently assigned to our parish as visitor to the ill and was told about me. So she made enquiries about my name and address - no one knew, not even the parish records. I have been in this parish 23 years for goodness sake! How she found out who I am was I happened to ring the parish and she answered the phone. God is good.
What do you do about it all and the feeling such matters can generate…keep praying about it and keep on trusting God confidently that all that happens is mysteriously His Will - the good and the aweful. And yes, I have even been hated because of my illness.

I hope things will improve for you as I know it is extremely painful at times…God’s Blessings and may He gift you His Peace - I will be keeping you in prayer…Barb:)

Barb and LittleOne,

I am outraged that you have met with such terrible treatment. I am so sorry you have been treated this way by people professing to see the face of Jesus in everyone, especially their brothers and sisters.

I have two friends who suffer with Bipolar. I met them in the course of my work life. They are beautiful people and it is only people’s ignorance that leads to such blatant prejudice.

I mostly get into trouble with people for standing up for what is just. Here’s an example, some time ago I wrote a piece for our Parish newsletter. I talked about forgiveness and mercy and treating everyone as a brother and sister, seeing the face of Jesus in everyone. I spoke about muslims and asked people to consider what they are doing to each other and that we are all children of God. I didn’t condone anything people do wrong to each other, but I did ask for people to treat each other as they would like to be treated. It caused uproar! For weeks afterwards I was accosted on leaving Mass by people telling me how terrible different people are and why should they love them. I was sneered at and laughed at. I was spoken badly about. So what!.

What I said was true and no different to what Jesus taught.

Again I stood up for what was just in my community and again I was spoken badly to, was ignored and treated badly, So what! Thank God and His Mercy I did what was right.

Again I stood up against someone operating in my parish with terrible motives. Again I was treated badly, ignored, shunned, spoken to badly and spoken about badly. So what! what I did was not only just for my family, but for all the Parish families. It got so bad that I Ieft my parish for a period.

I took this treatment on all counts and never lashed back, I went away and prayed.

In time, after suffering a great deal at the hands of people, I was vinidicated on all counts. The Parish Priest stood up in a meeting and defended my piece in the newsletter. Members of my community also stood up and supported what I had done and now also they follow what is right and just and seek it in our community and lastly other parish members saw what was happening in our parish and refused to allow it to happen to further families. Those in my Parish who had shunend me came to me and told me I was right, this person had also given them cause for concern and that they were sorry for how they had treated me.

It doesn’t matter how people treat you when you are strving to follow what is right in Jesus. In following what is right, we must be merciful, therefore we must never lash out verbally or seek after justice to anothers great downfall, but mercifully deal with them and to within reason protect them; always praying for God’s will in all situations.

Sometimes we have to be courageous and stand and face bad treatment for what is a higher calling. But swiftly we forgive and seek peace with all people.

It is a grave injustice to justice to stand by and see an injustice thrive against all reason. However we must seek justice mercifully and remembering we are to love all people no matter what they do to us.

We are owed no praise for standing up for what is just, it is no more than our duty and therefore we are owed no thanks, every man must do his duty. So don’t be surprised in this world if you do your duty and no-one thanks you for it and even if they hate you for it.

I have found in life people just cannot take plain speaking; it is too penetrating into their ‘self’ and they cannot face their ‘self’. Jesus had to make many swift escapes for His plain speaking as they instantly tried to kill Him before His time.

Still speak plainly the Truth.

Following Jesus will put you at odds with the world and it is to be expected that you pick up your cross and follow Jesus. So no use complaining, pick up your cross and courageously follow Jesus and suffer for what is just uniting all things to the Crucified One.

Dear Blessed Star…thank you for your very kind words re sufferers of mental illness and for sharing your own story, which was hair raising - I’m glad it all unfolded very happily for you. You have indeed been through much and in the direct cause of Jesus and The Gospel, His Message. “Blessed are you when men criticize and calumniate you, the Kingdom of Heaven is yours”…“they have persecuted Me, they will persecute you”. My first quote is of course from the Sermon on the Mount and while I have the gist of it I may not have the precise quotation - apologies!

Dear LittleONe…I was so engrossed in telling my own story that I missed the underlying tone of your own Opening Post which is a very unhappy one and also of spiritual trial. Apologies for being so wrapped in myself, self absorbed and indeed insensitive.
I could not agree more that it can be very difficult when all around one seems so appallingly negative to grasp that The Lord is full of Mercy and Gentleness, Understanding and Love. I can remember in my own life going through, in the early stages, faced with negativity around me that The Lord had just completely forgotten me and put me aside. That I did not matter to Him.
I am wondering if in your own life you can separate what is happening to you (you have not related your story) on one side and on the other try to grasp that God indeed still loves and cares and is ever faithful and unchanging. That just because all around you is negative, that God is not. His Will is a great mystery to us and often. I found that the words of St. Paul were of major comfort to me “we make up in our own bodies what was lacking in the Sufferings of Christ”…and at this time in your own life in a very real and actual, living, way you are united with Jesus at Calvary. Suffering as the words of St. Paul tell us is intrinsic to our Baptismal vocation…Jesus has made holy - and indeed a redemptive act united to Him - human suffering from which none of us can escape. Suffering of some kind is intrinsic to the human condition, somehow and sometime, and Jesus shared it with us in a terrible and major way. He did not draw back from being indeed fully human.
You will smile and be happy again, rest assured of that…but I cannot say how, when, where or why.
I would be very interested to know what is happening in your life that is triggering so much unhappines and spiritual difficulty in you. Can we be of any help to you and help you carry your burden at this time? But I know personal matters can be very difficult to share in public. I leave it with you and up to you to decide.
You will be in my prayers, LO.

May God Bless us and all and may He grant us and all that Peace that the world cannot know…Barb:)

I did what I believed to be just and I couldn’t do anything else, which led to riding the storm. I read Sacred Scripture daily and Jesus gave me great strength in the Psalms. Here I found my Counsel and my consolation. Every night, my heart sad and breaking I read Sacred Scripture as usual and every passage my eyes came to were about enemies triumphing and the writer pleading to God for vindication. I prayed repeatedly to be shown my error or otherwise to be vindicated; either, as God willed. It is hard when you stand alone and no-one, not one soul believes what you say to be just, you feel the numbers press on you and you feel you are forsaken by God which of course is not true, God is always with us. I didn’t pray to be right, I prayed for God’s will and it matters diddly whether I was right or not nor does it matter about me, what matters is that God’s will prevailed. I, for my part, would have complied with God’s will if it came about I was not doing the right thing, but it is so very hard to hang onto justice when it seems by all outside indications that you are not seeking justice.

Time passed, along time it seemed, but one year is not a long time in God’s eyes. So a year of those prayers and believing God will do as He sees fit and not how I see fit or anyone else sees fit. For me I can rejoice in His Cross and be glad I have some small suffering to offer to Jesus without which I go empty handed to Calvary and the Cross of Jesus.

We cannot help but feel the pain, we are human, but we rise above the pain in Christ Jesus and endure and persevere offering all things to Him and thanking Him for everything. Would I do it again? Yes, in a second.🙂 We must never forget that Calvary led to Easter Morning.🙂

I have adorned the throne of Jesus with tears as beautiful jewels; what small a price to pay to be able to do this:) . When you toil in tears how much greater your joy as God does His work.

**
Restore our fortunes, O Lord,
like the watercourses in the Negeb.
May those who sow in tears
reap with shouts of joy.
Those who go out weeping,
bearing the seed for sowing,
shall come home with shouts of joy,
carrying their sheaves. **

Wow, guys, I’m just speechless that you have been treated so badly by fellow parishoners. I’m really so sorry for that. All of you are in my prayers, along with those who have treated you this way.

If all I get from others is hate, put down, ignored, rejection, disallusionment then how am I to love for ever and have mercy get peace any one or all of these?
This world seems to be built on everything but God, life is so hard and so evil! so how am I to love Gods way?
God sees us as being poor and broken, and so should we see those who do not have faith as poor and broken.

Don’t scorn them, feel compassion and sorrow for them. Most of all, pray for them.

In Christ Jesus

St Peter’s words may be of some encouragement to you,

1 Peter 4:12-14:

12Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal among you, which comes upon you for your testing, as though some strange thing were happening to you;

13but to the degree that you share the sufferings of Christ, keep on rejoicing, so that also at the revelation of His glory you may rejoice with exultation.

14If you are reviled for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.

God is definitely merciful. He has infinite mercy. do you know about the Chaplet of Divine Mercy? if not, you may check out my blog. the world today is far removed from Him. but you can stay close to Jesus. draw close to Him, offer up your daily sufferings to Him, and say, Jesus I trust in You! the greater our trials, the more He is wuth us. that is for sure.

if you want to love the path of Christ, then learn to lean on Him, put your complete trust in Him. He said Himself, “And whosever doth not carry his cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple”. the greater your trials, the closer you are to Him.

I believe Little One knows of God’s Mercy and the Divine Mercy Chaplet . Little one is a kind and merciful soul and does not judge anyone looking kindly upon all. Little One has a heart and soul as of St Therese.

It is very hard when you are in the midst of trials like this Littleone. What I have said of my trials is of no real help and I know that. You feel like you are in a very dark place and wherever you turn is also dark . These trials are always sent with the Dark Night of the Soul which adds to its severity.

Here’s a prayer I now pray everyday and was given to me by the Sister in charge of my formation and whom I love very, very dearly:

O Holy Spirit, Great Paraclete
Thou Who in toil art comfort sweet
Grant me, I beseech Thee
The priceless gift of Fortitude
That through it all,
dread of danger overcome,
I may stand firm in all temptations,
And may be strong to follow
generously Jesus Christ my Lord.
Amen.

Keep the guts to follow Jesus even to the cross. Littleone, the smallest of us are the most brave. This is true of you, but even the bravest soldier feels the weight of the battle.

You are always in the Living Prayer of my life.

Though hard to deal with such ignorance at times, I try very hard to live by the principle that what others think of me is none of my business. When people engage in character assasination it is because they need to tear you down so that they may feel better about themselves. Their ego is disordered and needs to be downsized. I rarely see that as my job unless their gossip about me affects my ability to feed my family or to be of use to other people. They are usually brought to a horrible realization, by the consequences of their own actions that their own defective character is killing their soul. Some change. Many wake the next day with a firm resolve but forget about by lunchtime.

I have just recently returned to the Church so I hope not to speak out of turn. But my understanding is we should accept the crosses we are given. Not so much to accept them as a burden, but to accept them as an opportunity to live more fully in Christ’s image. To show by example how our faith provides us the ability to take what the world hands out, and to handle it with grace and serenity, knowing this is how God expects us to behave.

Jesus’ accepted humiliation and crucifiction. I’ve yet to meet anyone else who has suffered to that extreme. I certainly haven’t. Hopefully none of us will. If He can accept that human fate, who am I to complain about what I go through. I also try to remember that in this world I don’t always get what I deserve. And for that I am most fortunate if you get the drift. Hold on, Hang in, and overcome. Dan

🙂 Such a very beautiful post Dan. You may be new to the Church but the Church is very much richer for you being part of the Body of Christ. Don’t make excuses for the great wisdom, like this above, that you have in Jesus.

I would only say that Jesus did suffer agony of spirit and mind in the Garden of Gethsemane and He did ask the Father to spare Him from this cup. Part of embracing the cross is to suffer whilst doing the embracing.

I have looked for this on and off all day (Thank you St Anthony!🙂 ) I saw it a few days ago as a posters signature and it was St Padre Pio who said it. I was talking to Jesus as always and I asked Him why this stupid tiresome battle (sometimes I get weary) and as I went to my computer these words were on a post I was looking at!🙂

’Jesus permits the spiritual combat as a purification, not as a punishment. The trial is not unto death but unto salvation.'

I hope these words give you great comfort.

Thank you Jesus, thank you St Padre Pio my spiritual father and thank you St Anthony who also waged a terrible battle against evil (he’s also pretty good at finding things which is no small matter for me as I would misplace my head if God hadn’t fixed it to my shoulders:D ).

Great comments! Very often when we are under trial and tribulation and the negativity of others towards us, it can color our whole view of the whole world and life in general, which can give us a false impression of all of life. The world is still beautiful with wonderful things happening in it.

God’s Blessings and Peace…Barb:)

Great encouragement and great comments!! I believe that Jesus sends the most suffering and persecution to the ones He loves the MOST! How many times have the saints told us that there is no way to heaven other than The Cross? Jesus loves you all very very much. Offer it all to him with a firm resolution and with love and you will reach great heights of sanctification. Of this I am sure!

I didn’t know that this thread had gone this far, but it is Jesus my Lord who has allowed me not to have notes from you all until His time. strangely have not received any notes until you wrote Blessedstar. Jesus is perfection and His perfect time for me to write is now. Thank you Blessedstar for writing otherwise I would not have known to write.

All is well with me. I wrote this thread for reasons other than my not understanding how to get through people putting me and others down, but rather encouragement.

I am going through some very hard times at present, at work and at home, But little does that matter in the human sence because as I work (at night shift outside) I fall into tears of glory to my God the “Trinityof Love” Nothing can tear me away from Him and I tell Him that the war with my humanness hurts so bad but my spirit loves all that our God is doing and I wish only that He take all these branches away as hard as it is.
At work I cry much as I walk in the dark of the night but they are tears of so much love that overwhelms me I cannot contain it at all. It is this that makes me wish to ask Jesus to prune me even more to the brink of my being even more of nothing.

I cry out in thanks for my sister Therese who I love so much, for allowing her humanness to be torn away from her flesh. It is that and how our Loving Lord and King, Jesus showed her the road to take, wichis the road of “little childhood”. It is in Jesus askinig His, (our) Father in Heaven to do with Him (us) what He and we have to do, so that we may be those shining stars in this dark night of sin on earth.

Each day as the world gets darker into sin I ask only that Jesus use me that much more to keep the light going. My prayer chain is full but not even started because there is no dividing grace and or blessing, so each prayer for all those people and situations get the equal amount of blessing, and I remind Jesus that as I pray, for I need the prayer He prayed to His father, (Father forgive them for they know not what they do), because of my sins, before He looks at my prayers for others.

You all don’t know how I love you all and cheerish your notes, they help in these dark nights. Thank you all.

God bless

Thank God!🙂 I prayed a great deal and was concerned that you may be feeling the battle too hard and would begint o lose hope. You can’t know how glad I am to see you here and to therefore know you are happy in Jesus and carrying on with your lot in Him.

This has made my day, no made my week to know you are still the ‘little one’ and still carrying on in His Way.

One day your tears will turn to joy and your seed to sheaves of wheat.

With great affection and filial love in Jesus,

In the Living Prayer of my life always.
