Plus, Galileo thought that Scientists were not accountable to anybody but themselves and that they should Disseminate whatever Theories they may have developed without Church Authority, to Heck with what Societal Impact they may have had.The “Galileo thing” was really nothing much. Galileo was really outstepping his bounds and riduculing the Pope.
Pope Urban VIII only broke his good relations with Galileo when the latter wrote the book Dialogo, or Massimi Sistemi, in which he tried to ridicule the Aristotelian-Thomist philosophy in dealing with the systems of Ptolemy and Copernicus. Only then, in 1633, did the Pope deliver him to be judged by the Holy Inquisition for the second time . Here’s an excellent article about Galileo:

Indeed. Mocking the Pope as an Aristotelian Idiot was ALSO not a Good Idea.Actually there’s really nothing to live down. Galileo was not punished not for claiming that the earth revolved around the sun but for mocking the pope in the book he worte explaing the theory. The truth is that the church was the champion of scientific discovery and the forerunner in establishing universities. Whenever you hear people start railing at the church about Galileo, the Crusades and/or the Inquisition you know they really have very little knowledge of church history or in fact history at all.
Good Response. My mother is fond of telling the story of our pastor’s response to a parent who was upset about my mother teaching evolution in our Catholic grade school. The pastor said to the woman “in the church we are not concerned so much with the how as we are by the who”
Especially when Galileo’s “proofs” were observably wrong, the final proof for heliocentricism came in 1838…Indeed. Mocking the Pope as an Aristotelian Idiot was ALSO not a Good Idea.
Galileo enjoyed the patronage the Church thoughout career. In fact 20 years before his trial he had advanced the same theory.and far from being punished by the Church, he recieved praise from them and an award for his research from a prominent Scientific group.Plus, Galileo thought that Scientists were not accountable to anybody but themselves and that they should Disseminate whatever Theories they may have developed without Church Authority, to Heck with what Societal Impact they may have had.
Actually he didn’t have the full support of the pope, he had the tacit support of the pope as long as he did not portray the heliocentric theories as reality, but merely as a device necessary to make math work. It later came to light that he had been earlier ordered by one of the cardinals (Belarmine I think, but I’m too lazy to look it up now) not to mention the heliocentric theory in his works at all. Because Galileo was a jerk who had pissed everyone off, the cardinals petitioned the pope to try him for violating this order, showing the pope the insulting caricature against him (note: Don’t ever write something and put the words of someone who holds your life in his hands in the words of an idiot, it doesn’t end well).Galileo enjoyed the patronage the Church thoughout career. In fact 20 years before his trial he had advanced the same theory.and far from being punished by the Church, he recieved praise from them and an award for his research from a prominent Scientific group.
The book that got him in trouble was " Dialogue Concerning the Two Chief World Systems" were he advanced Copernican theory through an imaginary conversation between three people. It should be noted that he had the full approval of the Pope to write this book and the Pope was fully aware he intended to advance the Copernican theory. In the book one of the three imaginary characters, named Simpliticus, was presented as a complete idiot and roundly mocked and unfortunately for Galileo appeared to be a caricature of the Pope.
Scientists cannot demonstrate multiverses exist. There is no hard data for this idea.Does this then mean that Catholics cannot espouse the multiverse theory?
Why not? Lorentzian traversable wormholes held open by a negative-mass cosmic string could conceivably provide contact from one universe to another.Scientists cannot demonstrate multiverses exist.
Yes, of course. Are you aware of an observation or manipulation of a cosmic string? Why not? Lorentzian traversable wormholes held open by a negative-mass cosmic string could conceivably provide contact from one universe to another.
There are two question here:Yes, of course. Are you aware of an observation or manipulation of a cosmic string?

The Holy Scriptures give some clear answers on the issue of ‘how’ and ‘when’ that everyone likes to ignore because they’re intimidated by consensus opinions masquerading as proven facts. The Big Bang as a whole is just a compromise with secularism which chooses to ignore revealed truth from God and chase after the fantastical myth known as Darwinian evolution. Portions of reasoning behind the Big Bang are good, even excellent, but as a whole, it can’t all be reconciled with the clear details given in Scripture and reiterated by God Himself. Also if you’re keeping up with secular science itself, there are issues with the Big Bang model. Like other past models, it is likely to be replaced by something else, or just held onto in the background for no other reason other than nobody’s come up with something better. Don’t take anything in ‘science’ for granted, newer research often overturns old ones, and decades of stuff can be tossed out overnight despite how often it was crowed about as being reliable or ‘factual.’ God’s Word is unchanging and a foundation that is always rock solid, unlike science textbooks.I have wondered for a long time what the problem was in reconciling “In the beginning God…” and The Big Bang. That priest’s comment is right on.
Theology is concerned with questions of “Who” and “Why”. Science with questions of “How”, “Where” and “When” With both having having (name removed by moderator)ut on “What”.
Faith and Reason both exist for the purpose of revealing the truth, either alone is insufficient but when combined…
Blessings,
