Ani Ibi,

You are indeed kind. I thought for sure people knew about these concrete links to non-Catholic/non-Orthodox past. Yet, perhaps not. Thank you for your kindness.

I am confused, how did God write the bible? i am sure he gave Revelations but I dont think it is all Gods word? When it comes to the gospels, these were written my MMLJ, it was there interpretation of things??? How can that be Gods word?

It is God’s word in the sense that God is the source of all truth. It is the Christian belief in the Incarnation that assures us the God uses the Church to write His words. The Church is the pillar and ground of truth. It isn’t just that God dropped a book out of the sky or that He had nothing to do with it’s writing. It is God breathed and Church written.

Well the first post was hilarious! Now I’m not sure what’s a joke and what’s not, lol. 😊

Hello,
When did Jesus use the term “ONE HOLY AND CATHOLIC CHURCH.”?
Well, if it has to come straight from Jesus’ mouth, you might as well throw out the entire Old Testament, every book in the New Testament after the Gospel of John, and probably at least half of the Gospels themselves.

As far as the line from the Apostles’ Creed - One Holy Catholic Church - it comes from:

One - Matthew 16:18; Colossians 1:24, etc. The Church is the mystical Body of Christ, with him at the head. He only has one body and one head (He’s not a monster). Therefore there is only One Church.

Holy - Ephesians 5:27 - The Church is Holy because of Christ, not because of us.

Catholic - Matthew 28:19-20; Acts 11:9-48 - Catholic means universal, as in the Church takes all peoples into Herself.
A pope named Constantine (your first pope) said that. Christ founded His church on the confession of Peter. Peter confessed He was the Messiah God. Jesus said that His church would be persecuted, not the persecutor. Catholics are responsible for the deaths of over 100 000 000 European non-catholics between 350 AD and 1808 AD. How could this be Christ’s church, when it follows an elected fool who wears gold, purple and scarlet… like the whore of Babylon in Revelations.
This is so preposterous, I don’t know whether to laugh or refute it. As others have very very easily refuted it already on this thread, I guess I’ll just have me a good laugh. :rotfl:

Hello,
Jesus never followed tradition, He did His Father’s will, and cited scripture.

Jesus rebuked traditionalists to their face using scripture.
Do you mean when He said something like:

“You search the scriptures, because you think that in them you have eternal life” (John 5:39)

Oh wait, that seems to contradict your beloved doctrine of Sola Scriptura - how clumsy of me.

Hello,
The Holy Spirit through prayer will define the Scriptures for you, He is God after all. I would rather be taught by God than man.
There are countless Protestant denominations, some with conflicting viewpoints on essential things that must be believed. Each of these adamantly claim that the Holy Spirit has infallibly taught them the Truth. If denom A says that Baptism is essential for salvation and denom B says that Baptism is symbolic and nice, but not necessary for salvation - and both claim that the Spirit has infallibly taught them, who should I believe? They both say believe Jesus, Jesus said Baptism is essential (denom A) and Jesus said Baptism isn’t essential (denom B). What to believe?
The Bible says itself how to interpret it.
Could you please provide the verses that say THAT!? And while your at it, why not provide where the Bible says that it is the sole authority of faith, and which books are to be considered inspired.

Hello,
From what I heard the Bible floated out of the sky one day and it was caught by none other than Martin Luther…or was that Pastor Bob and his International True Gospel Church and Trailer Court?

NO, NO, NO! Everyone who knows, and is in the know - knows that when Jesus went up to Heaven at the Ascension, He sent down a complete KJV (without the deutero-canonicals).

Then my friend do not go, please stay and tell us some…just one will do! Please tell us any catholic teaching which is not grounded on the Scriptures. But it must be an authentic catholic teaching, not something someone has invented. There are a lot of alleged catholic teachings which have no reality beyond the mind of the person who expressed it 😛
How about the fact that Catholics believe that Mary died still a virgin???

Jesus had natural half brothers and sisters. She knew no man till after the birth of Jesus. Then she had sex with husband Joseph. They had children.

Or did she divorce him? or maybe just refuse him? No they had married sexual relations. You asked for a teaching that is not grounded on scripture, well here it is. This Catholic teaching of ever-vigin Mary is not grounded on scripture.

“Is this not the carpenter’s son? Is not his mother called Mary and his brothers, James and Joseph and Simon and Judas?” See Mark 6:3, Mathew 12:46. Mary had other children with Joseph.

Voice is simply regurgitating the lies that he has heard. He has obviously NOT done any independent thinking or research. His premises are ignorant and laughable. I see a lot of these types on the CA forums, they run in, throw some grenades and then run out. They are not here to learn, only to cause hate and discontent. I have no problem with someone who honestly wants to question and learn, I have lots of problems and no patience with ignorant people who want to “save” me.

Do you believe that all things are possible with God, Arcadia? Or is your faith limited? Scripture does not deny the perpetual virginity of our Blessed Mother, only protestants. Shame on you for your disrespect of the Mother of God.

What is with this “interpretation” stuff? The scriptures are universal truth. They are true no matter how another person might twist God’s truth to conform with their own “interpretation”. The Bible says “lean not on your own understanding”, and look at how many denominations there are, in direct defiance of God’s commandment. They have all leaned on their own understanding, breaking away from the universal truth that the Holy Spirit revealed to the Catholic Church. God’s word also says Jesus wants the Church to be one (“that they may be one”), but yet it is this very “interpretation” problem amongst so many that has caused apostasy against the very will of God and His design for His church. Moral relativism is idolatrous of one’s own mind/self, and these “interpretations” of the Bible are nothing less than idolatry of the self and a sin against God’s very Word.

Sixtus asked the question and I am answering it period.

I would like Sixtus to repond. It was he who asked the question. “Please tell us any Catholic teaching which is not grounded on scripture.”

Well where are the scriptures Sixtus?

I guess you figure that the other children were a result of immaculate conception too! Wow.

Why don’t you just open your mind to the possibility that she was a good wife and mother to her husband and children and that somone just made up this ever- virgin doctrine. Please Sixtus which scripture is the Catholic teaching of (ever-virgin Mary) founded on? Sixtus?

Where in the Bible does it claim that she did not?

Where is this in the Bible? Instead, I find that the “brothers” of Christ were the sons of Zebedee and of Alphaeus. Your next question is a good one, if you are thinking that Jesus’ mother Mary was also their mother. Did she have children with these two men, but not with her husband Joseph?
Or did she divorce him? or maybe just refuse him? No they had married sexual relations. You asked for a teaching that is not grounded on scripture, well here it is. This Catholic teaching of ever-vigin Mary is not grounded on scripture.
It actually comes to us through the poetry and songs of the Apostles and their early followers. But there is nothing in Scripture to contradict it.
“Is this not the carpenter’s son? Is not his mother called Mary and his brothers, James and Joseph and Simon and Judas?” See Mark 6:3, Mathew 12:46.
They were mistaken that Joseph was His father - they could have been equally mistaken about his cousins, thinking they were his brothers and sisters.
Mary had other children with Joseph.
If Mary had these other children, it was not with Joseph - their father’s names are listed elsewhere in the New Testament. Do a word study on their names, using a good Concordance, and you will see that I am right.

If you have trouble with the idea of prpetual virginity Arcadia, then you must also have trouble with Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead or feeding 5000 with a few loaves and fishes or the curing of the blind man or the curing of the leper. God can do anything Arcadia, even cause a young jewish girl to remain a virgin after the birth of our Lord or even open the eyes of a protestant.

No I don’t have any trouble with the miracles. However, the onus is on Sixtus who asked me to to find a practice of the RCC that is not backed up by scripture. I have done that.
