I saw this article too a few days ago, and at first was really really upset. But the more I thought about it, the more I realized that it isn’t the cross itself that is the main focus of Christ’s death. It’s the death and resurrection itself. The torture that the Son of God went through is what made him the sacrificial lamb, not the structure on which he was killed. Whether or not it was an actual t shaped cross, Jesus was brutally abused and killed, and that is what is important today, not the shape of the tool used to do it.

Quite correct. However, if the questioning of some trivial detail causes one of our weaker brothers or sisters to doubt the whole Truth, it is scandal.

From my perspective, Jesus died on a T/t-shaped cross, just like in the photos.

The author is simply suggesting that, if one rejects Christian “Tradition” (as many Protestants tend to do), one cannot prove – from the Greek Gospels alone – that Jesus died on a T/t-shaped cross.

If the cross is T-shape, then where did Pilate put the sign “Iesus Nazarenum Rex Iudaeorum”? John 19:19.

I’m sure the soldiers would have had no problem finding a place. There is a lot of lumber regardless the exact form of the cross.

For sure, the sign could not possibly were put under the feet of Jesus, cause it would not be seen by many. The purpose of Pilate of putting that sign was to be seen by as many people as possible. So, the logical place was on top of the cross. If the cross was a perfect T-shape, then the highest possible place to put the sign was either the left or the right hand side of Jesus. The preposition used in John 19:19 in Greek was “epi” (Egrapsen de kai titlon ho Pilatoskai etheken **epi **tou staurou). Epi in English can also means over, on, upon, or above. In this case, I would accept the form of the cross as we have today.
