Grade your Bishop

I have to agree that I would rate Cardinal George well, and that he is probably one of the best bishops we have (not the best, but certainly one of them) but my experience with him has been that while he always advocates a strong, orthodox line, he often stops just short of actually implementing it. For instance, regarding the mandatum, he said that seeking it is a public act which an individual should not seek to hide (meaning also not hiding if they did not request or failed to receive a mandatum) yet he also refused to actually reveal which professors had received a mandatum. Same thing with abortion advocates and the Eucharist. The last I had read (and this could have changed) he had declared them unfit and said they should not present themselves, but also that he would not refuse them the Eucharist. So I appreciate his talk, but think he needs to work on his walk.

The poll is closed, but I give an “A” to my bishop!
“The consistent support of abortion legislation by some Catholic public officials is a gravely sinful act. This public stance precludes the politicians from being admitted to Holy Communion as long as they persist in their pro-abortion stance. The reception of Holy Communion by pro-abortion Catholic public officials is a scandal to the Catholic faithful, which risks leading the faithful into error regarding the true teaching of the Church on the intrinsic evil of procured abortion.”
- Most Rev. Peter J. Jugis
Bishop of Charlotte

To this thread I propose a quote from Matthew 7;
“Judge not and you will not be judged”. I have enough to do to work out my own salvation rather than sit in judgment on my bishop. He has his own responsibilities and will be judged by God–not me!

Good thing the poll was closed when I got here. I wouldn’t have known how to vote.

Our diocese does not currently have a bishop.

I live in the diocese of Rochester, NY. We have one of the most “liberal” bishops in the nation. He and his like minded brother bishops need our prayers.

I think one question that never gets asked is why Rome favors collegiality so much? Rome waits till they turn 75 to dump even the most heterodox ones. Why will they not intervene sooner to help restore orthodoxy and keep folks on the path to salvation?

Bishop Thomas J. Tobin of Diocese of Youngstown, Ohio Great man, excellent Bishop. I’d give him an A+ but the poll is closed. 👍

Grade my BISHOP? That is nuts… I am NOT a CONfESSOR, and NOBODY imparted anything upon me… If I forgive mens sins, or hold them bound, Heaven and Earth, do NOT care… Even if the instrument of God’s will and work the Confessor Priest is NOT completely cognizant, the HOLY SPIRIT is PRESENT and COGNIZANT, the UN-HUMAN half of Jesus Christ…

If I break a COMMANDMENT maliciously or intently, with forethough, and I incur ,“WRATH,” and consequence, that’d open the door for a whole plethora, or legion, or SINS to IMPALE my waking conscience till I could think no more, and do little work… Yet I can regain access to the POWER to resist this abysis again, though empowered forgiveness…

9:4 Jesus knew what they were thinking, and said, "Why do you harbor evil thoughts?
MT 9:5 Which is easier, to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Rise and walk’?

JN 20:23 Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained."

JN 15:5 I am the vine, you are the branches. Whoever remains in me and I in him will bear much fruit, because without me you can do nothing.
