Inside the Vatican is really good. You get all the inside scoop on what’ happening at the Vatican. 👍

Catholic Digest…hummm.
I cancelled my subscription when they placed Mario Cuomo on the front cover as a model Catholic.

I my opinion Crisis Magazine is a must read. Deal Hudson and staff produce a publication that offers the very best orthodox thought. Any publication that has George Weigel, Michael Uhlmann, Terry Teachout, Rev. George Rutler and Senator Rick Santorum on its roster of regular contributors is going to be a voice that demands attention.

Crisis also has an excellent website that offers featured articles from the current issue as well as an excellent, and comprehensive, archive section. 👍

And Magnificat magnificat.net/- is just an awesome publication. It is so nice to have the daily Mass readings and reflections together with the beautiful artwork!
:amen:
Good call Shan! I’ll second the plug for Magnificat. It’s become such a part of my daily routine that I forgot to even mention it.

For those who are curious, each day of this Reader’s Digest sized publication has a set of morning prayers (a short hymn, psalm, reading, Canticle of Zachariah, intercessions); the prayers of the Mass (opening prayer, readings, responsorial psalm, closing prayer, 1/2 to 1 page reflection); a set of evening prayers (similar to format of morning prayers except Canticle of Mary instead of Zechariah), and a short 1 page story about a saint of the day.

Each month has color artwork on the cover and another piece of color art towards the back of the issue with a writeup. At the beginning of each issue are a few pages of editorial reflection that usually fits with the major theme that falls within the month – ex. Easter, Ascension, etc. Also included are the Eucharistic prayers, Adoration prayers, and other prayers that vary month to month.

They also have special Advent and Lent issues that you can order seperately. Comes in English or Spanish and there’s even a version for children aged 7-12.

I, for one, am hoping one day I’ll get the chance to vote for Senator Santorum for president.

The last issue I bought had an article about how the solution to the sex-abuse scandals was married priests.

I too am hopeful of Senator Santorum’s bid for the White House in the future. However, I was somewhat disapointed that he did not back Pat Toomey for Senate recently.

His monthly column in Crissis is excelent, and he accurately expresses my views and opinions every month. Here’s a sample: crisismagazine.com/april2004/hill.htm

FYI for all of you with kiddos: Magnificat also has a version for children called MagnifiKid. Each month comes with a little booklet for each Sunday. It’s very colorful and even has activities that are tied to the readings. Our oldest (8) loves it! 🙂

Okay- so maybe Catholic Digest is not such a good recommend-- I only thought of it because it seemed like lighter reading than Crisis!

The Couple to Couple League’s Family Foundations is great.
ccli.org

Women for Faith and Family’s Voices is also very nice, but they are having financial issues at the moment.
wf-f.org
They have a “sister” organization Adoremus that also has a bulletin adoremus.org

Unfortunately, “Be” magazine from Catholic Answers isn’t around anymore. That was light reading but free of dissension.

Was that your letter to them I copied and pasted along with my cancellation? 👍

All I can tell you is that about four years ago I tried to subscribe to envoy magazine with an online subsciption form. I got a confirmation email thanking me and telling me my delivery would begin soon. I never got a single issue and my credit card never got billed. I never bothered to follow up on what happened and i never tried to subscribe again.
I think they recently launched an online version which is cheaper. You might try that one. They have great articles, but like you, I subscribed once and never received my magazines. I am thinking about the online version. Could that one possibly get lost in the internet mail? 😦

Since milimac brought up this subject, I have a question about Envoy Magazine. I subscribed to Envoy back in December 2003. I received my first issue in January, loved it, and never received another. My question is – has anyone else had this expreience and/or is Envoy in financial dificulty? I hope not. And yes, Iknow, I need to follow up with Envoy.
Envoy’s editor, Carl Olson, left the magazine recently. The word going around is that it was because of financial problems at Envoy. Envoy’s web site doesn’t mention Olson’s departure, but the staff listing now has Patrick Madrid as both publisher and editor.

Envoy is supposed to come out six times a year. It has had a lot of trouble coming close to that. Maybe that’s why it doesn’t give issue dates on the cover of the magazine. :hmmm:

Ya gotta be kidding!? on a Catholic magazine?

Puh-LEEZE say it ain’t so!

This Rock - I think is the best for Sharing the faith and doing the true work of the Church.

New Oxford Review - More intellectual and pokes fun at liberals.

Latin Mass Magazine

Couple to Couple League Family Foundations

Hi fellow members of the Church Militant!!
How’s the battle front on your end of the Body of Christ?

Well what we like to read hear in Florida are the following: ’
  1. Catholic World Report: reminds us that the Church is truly catholic and not just parochial…
    2.Crisis: good analysis excellent editorials
  2. New Oxford Review: stridently orthodox and urgently necessary
  3. Homiletic and Pastoral Review: excellent articles about the liturgy and indeed all facets of the faith
  4. From the Housetops: This magazine has outstanding articles about the saints.
  5. This Rock: readily accessible, excellent features
  6. First Things: erudite, heady, and at the forefront of the Catholic Intellectual Renaissance
  7. The Magnificat: Sublime, serene, meditative daily prayer and Mass readings
  8. Catholic Answer, the best question format around
  9. Culture Wars: Michael Jones editor, right there in the trenches. I read it on line but it’s sporadic in its updating
  10. St.Austin’s Review (STAR) with Joseph Pearce excellent commentary on the Arts
There are others like Canticle which i read online, and of course there are many orthodox newspapers like National Catholic Register (Not Reporter) and The Wanderer.
Don’t get America or Commonweal. Neither should you get Catholic Digest. They seem to have questionable material

I subscribed, and didn’t get the issue that has come out since. So yep, I think it can. SOMETHING happened, anyway.

I wish I could subscribe to some of these but as I am in Canada there is a higher subscription rate, sometimes extra s&h and once you convert that to Canadian dollars sometimes it comes to…
Sorry I can’t justify the expense.
