The greatest threat? The Wolves

Pray for me, that I may not flee for fear of the wolves

Pope Benedict XVI

I voted for the other.
Greatest Threat to the Catholic Church is the doctrines of other churches. But which church’s doctrine do they they fear the most?Do they fear the LDS, the JW, the Lutherian.? More Lutherians become Catholics, and more Catholics become Lutherians.

What about the church I belong too, which is the New Church. This church has the writings of Swedenborg. Does the doctrine of this church threaten the Catholic Church?

William 🙂

You tell me - does it?

What do you think is the greatest threat to our Church in the modern world? I was just curious because I just read an editorial from a priest who says its Secularism. I just wanted to hear other opinions.

Catholics, paranoid or otherwise

Other: Relativism. If that is included in modernism, then that is my answer.

“Relativism will certainly damn our souls and end our species.”

C.S. Lewis

Did anybody say the devil yet? I chose “other” as my final answer. The devil is all evil things wrapped up in one, so it’s a pretty safe bet he’s a threat to the church (although I’m glad to know he’s going to always lose when he tries to completely destroy the church! 😃 )

I think its the church’s lack of responce or action over pedophile preist. I live in Australia and i know thats the biggest problem people have with church. The church’s unwilliness to make these sick barstards face justice is a huge mistake. I know some might say they were trying to protect the church.I know Jesus said his church would stand to the end time, but i think if Jesus was to return and see who the church is protecting then i think he would tear the church down. i’m sure he would rather see the church in rubble, than have just one child hurt in such a vile and sicking manner.

Peace be with you,
Sorry to interject, but Gruner the whiner is no friend of the church nor Our Lady nor is he a spokesman for Fatima. The 20 year scenario sounds good but the fact of the matter is he is out of union with the church, has been condemned by the church and in this case Sister Lucia herself. The consecration was done, is done and Gruner is the devils agent. There are numerous threads on this subject with supporting evidence so I shall not repost, but use the search tool and you will find the answers.

I have been devoted to Fatima since the beginning, I am no young whipper snapper and I am older than said apostate Gruner. I know the devil and his agents are now, more than ever trying to destroy it. Gruner is not Gods agent, he was sanctioned for disobedience. He is NOT to be believed. Be aware the consecration has been done and Sister Lucia has attested to the fact. Satans goal is to deceive. Gruners goal is to confuse and he is Satan’s agent knowingly or through his own pride and stupidity, but Satans agent none the less. I believe Sister Lucy is the more reliable and she says the consecration was done. She herself has repudiated Gruner.
I hope 3½ years are not too many to get back to you on this, but I take back my post that caused your response. Live’n’Learn, as they say.

Thanks,

I can’t pick just one. As far as I am able to understand, Secularism and Modernism seem to be “two heads off of the same hydra.” They are similar enough, and that is not to say, identical, that it would serve the purpose of polls like these to lump them in the same category. Why am I concerned? Out of the list, I’d rank secularism and modernism to be grave threats. Relativism has been already mentioned. I consider both relativism and a Catholic variety of latitudinarianism, are grave threats that I see creeping around my parish. Witness the brou-ha-ha the media had over what the Holy See stated about “the One True Religion” las summer. A deacon at my parish publically (as a homily) weighed in on the matter *against * the Church. People lined up to shake his hand after Mass. If you can’t stand up for your faith, what faith do you have?

I chose “Other.” I feel that ignorance of Catholicism is its greatest threat. As a new convert, it’s been very difficult to find religious education through the Church. A person spends 6-8 months in RCIA and you’re on your own.

I’ve had to go to another parish for Bible study and books for all else. It surprises me that the Church has survived this long.

There is NO threat to the Catholic Church period!

I used to think one thing or another was a threat when I first became a re-born born again Christian (i.e. Catholic) a few years ago. Jesus said He would be with His body, His visible Church on earth, His Catholic Church until His return. What God protects who can harm? No one can!

For 2,000 years nay Sayers have invented lies, mistruths and deception to lead Catholics out of Christ’s body and to keep others from becoming one with it. Every heresy in the past has faded into history, those today and those invented in the future will also all fade away and the Catholic Church will still be there with the whole truth.

The greatest theologians of all time were Catholics who put the nay Sayers to rest. The Church Fathers are great examples of these. The Catholic Church will always produce great Saints who will preserve, lead and give us the examples we will all look up to. There is a wave of Protestant preachers coming home to the Catholic Church because they chose to study the Church Fathers and accept the truth that was passed through them to us today.👍

It is sad that there are many in the same boat. I hope you can get EWTN. It provides so much information, both TV programs and internet. Then there are good publishers (Ignatius press, Tan, etc.), and the distinction is important.
