And this mom. Retreated as far as she could in her own home, then took the perp out. She’s heroic. Defended herself and her little children.

How do you know? The truth is you don’t know, but you put this nonsense out there anyway. People who own guns are interested in firearms. We argue which caliber is best. We take classes on bettering our marksmanship. We go to the range. You obviously know nothing about firearms or people who use them so stop making things up just to justify your weak position.

Yep. I was just on a FB group discussing the finer points of bear defense with .45 Colt +P rounds. Will hit the range later today. Great guys there, friendly and helpful. And the other gun owners and I often invite each other to try out a gun.
Hope I see the grandfather there again today, training his grandkids. They’re becoming marksmen!

Do some target headshots for me Prayerrider. And yes keep those kids in the shooting sports so they don’t grow up to be ignorant and fearful of firearms.

Last week with Taurus 605 snubbie, .38 +Ps. Various distances, double action and one hand single action. Not great but hey, it’s a snubbie.

Those holes on the cardboard are not mine, lol.

Now I know that the NRA normally allows legally carried guns to their conventions, but the Secret Service banned guns when Trump and Pence spoke at the 2018 convention. Now I do not accuse the NRA of hypocrisy in this since it was not their decision. But neither did I hear them complain about the decision. They accepted it cheerfully in order to get Trump to speak at their convention. That should tell you something.
Why would they complain. Being responsible gun owners, I would certainly expect them to obey the requests of law enforcement.

Especially when they are ensured that a large number of law enforcement will be present. Even without the members carrying their pistols. The firearms per capita present would still be very, very high. And that alone would be a deterrent to attackers.

This paper looks at active shooter events over a 12 year span with the goal to assess law enforcement reactions
  • 49% of events stopped before the police could arrive
  • 42% of events (44 total) resulted in the killer committing suicide, of which 29 killers committed suicide prior to police arrival.
  • 43% of events (45 total) result in the attacker being stopped with force, either by civilians or law enforcement.
  • When civilians intervene before LE arrives, they stop 33% of mass shootings.
  • Slightly less than 3% of mass shootings are stopped by armed civilians shooting the attacker.
Uh…you left out the most important part. How many people were killed BEFORE the active shooter was stopped by unarmed intervention. All the recent unarmed intervention I’ve seen resulted in the unarmed person being killed. Therefore your “proof” means nothing. The fact that few of these shootings may have been stopped by an armed person means that these were soft targets where law abiding citizens we’re not allowed to carry. And finally what is your source of your “data”. Most mass shootings get my attention and are in the news, so I suspect you are presenting false information.
There have been more than 1,600 mass shootings since Sandy Hook
And as my data showed there are far more in other countries. In African countries revolutionaries often raid villages, shoot the older men, burn the young boys alive, and then seize the girls so they can rape them and sell them into prostitution.
times that of Germany, according to United Nations data compiled by the Guardian. More guns = more violence.
You mean the same Guardian that advertises itself as “America’s leading liberal voice”. Come back to talk when you have legitimant sources. The same goes for Mother Jones Your reading garbage!
study conducted byMother Jones found that, in 62 mass shootings over 32 years, there were exactly zero instances of a killer targeting a place because of a gun ban. Neither the motive nor the location of a mass shooting, therefore, have anything to do with ‘gun-free zones.’
Oh they did a “study”. Really? Did they interview the dead bodies of school shooters? Except for a few enlightened school districts most schools are still gun free zones.
who were all unarmed
The above are the real true heroes who were all unarmed by the way, victims also unfortunately of the lunacy of America fascination with guns.
Yes they tried so they are heroes. But I thought you said there are unarmed ways to take out a shooter. I guess not…huh? If instead there were armed and trained school personnel on scene things may have been different. More guns in the hands of good guys = more dead bad guys.

Please stop spending such false expectations.
Your opinion does not equate to fact. Your disregard of the reasoned opinions of others astounds me. This careless use of the word “false” tells me all I need to know, as does the rather twisted use of “defense”.

I have often asked for those who pile up the fire arms if they have spent at least that much on an alarm system. You know, defense.

Nor do they need to.
Well, just a few posts ago, an armed citizenry was proposed as the solution to mass shootings on the grounds that this excellent training in gun safety is available. But if this “armed citizenry” does not take advantage of that training, then I will have to fall back to my original objection, which is that an untrained armed citizenry patrolling public places to stop mass shootings is likely to kill more people by accident than are saved by stopping a shooter.

Again, it makes no difference how great the training is if a few gun owners do not get that training.

How is that a Christian attitude? To say that my personal opinions have nothing to do with what Jesus wants?
This is know as subjectivism, by the way. While we can each apply what is true to our own lives and our own decisions, our opinions have no reflection, change or influence on that which Jesus taught.

Those holes on the cardboard are not mine, lol.
See the positive: at least you do not have to walk to the end of the range every time to pick up the lost bullets! lol. It would be worse with bow and arrow,( the simple ones),prayerrider. That is the one I like. But well… at least one does exercise walking…
Sounds like you enjoy it! My husband does too.

How do you know they do? Can you cite any statistics on how many people attend Gunsite training? I do not want to trust my life to your guess that maybe the gun owners around me in public places are well trained. I want to know.

Sure, gun owners are very interested in what will make their gun shoot better, faster, farther. I have no evidence that they are that interested in how to quickly judge if civilians are in their line of fire, or if a supposed threat is really a threat, or just somebody taking pictures with a telephoto lens.

That is laughable. Contrary to the dopey commercial out recently alarms do NOT defend they detect. It’s up to the human in the house to respond to an alarm and defend his family.

But I am glad you at least have an alarm. Most people can’t afford the installation and monthly subscription fee.

Are you sure? I don’t think there are enough people carrying weapons, even where it is allowed, to be in the right place at the right time and have the proper training to end such shootings promptly. And if we did somehow achieve that saturation level of armed citizens, we would be seeing many more accidental killings from trigger-happy vigilantes.
Yes, I am sure. Why do you think there have been no mass shootings at NRA conventions? Or even accidental shootings?
IN all fairness, there have been no shootings at Star Trek conventions. Does this mean that the potential of phasers scare people off? The most logical answer to the question is that NRA conventions are a sliver of mass gatherings, and mass shootings happen only at a sliver of mass gatherings.

I can’t say for certain how many gun owners train. But I can say for certain that the lunatic in the mall with an AK and an evil grin on his face whose heading for you and your family after he just shot 10 people certainly means to do you harm. No doubt in my mind!

Since you have decided to leave you and your familie’ s defense to others you better hope that one of my fellow gun owners is close by. So who you gonna trust? Hmm… crazed lunatic killer vs. responsible US gun owner. No there is no guarantee…but yeah I’m gonna go with my fellow gun owner. Of coarse I would never be stupid enough not to have a firearm. If it’s me in the mall I am 90% sure that this guy who came in vertical will be leaving horizontal.
