It will never happen. And if it does pass, no one is going to comply and it will get over turned by SCOTUS.

There is no constitutional right to have a drivers license, or any other type of professional license.

What about driver licenses, which have to be renewed periodically? And when you cannot pass the vision test (which is NOT a punishment), then your license is revoked. Is that also punishment? What about special licenses for different types of cars or trucks? Not to mention pilots. What about barbers and beauticians?
None of these are a constitutional right.

A gun maybe needed in those situations, but a semi-automatic or an automatic probabily isn’t.
A woman is most likely going to be killed by her husband, so if a woman is going to own a gun to defend herself she is going to most likely use it on her husband, who’ll probably get to the gun before her.
Most women who kill their abusive husbands end up in prison.

You have a right to protect your family.
Almost all mass shootings occur in “gun-free” zones, where the targets are soft.
And, “gun-free” Chicago has a huge murder problem.
The best defense against a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.

Yep. And the gangster holding his Glock sideways and spraying shots everywhere should be dealt with cool, calmly and decisively by the good guy.

Taurus revolvers good. Taurus semis, not so good, and illegal in CA.

The way around the licensing and permit requirements is to acquire an antique as determined by the serial number (and other factors, as determined in the appropriate acts regarding firearms). In the US It is 1899 or older, in Canada I believe 1898. Many firearms, such as the Winchester 1892, were still manufactured into the late 1930s but if one was manufactured in 1899 and one in 1900; the former will be an antique while the latter not.

It is a semi-automatic that is commonly recommended for those with smaller body mass, such as small women and the eldery.

The action of the semi-automatic, cycling to load the next round, by definition, uses up some of the recoil energy. The felt recoil is thus noticeably less.

When we teach Hunter Ed, we commonly give the women and teens the semi-autos, for that very reason.
who’ll probably get to the gun before her.
What is your basis for that assessment? And what about the women defending against a home invader? Is that not also a valid defense?

Nope, the best solution is not to have any firearms.
So if the attacker has a gun, the defender ( police, civilians, whoever) should disarm themselves as the best solution???

Really???

How about if a drug gang attacks a elderly lady with baseball bats, how do you recommend that lady defend herself?

How could have an attacker have a gun, when NO ONE has a gun?
How would you enforce that? They are very easy to make by anyone who has taken a basic high school shop class.

Here are the plans for a basic submachine gun, complete with parts list that you can get from a decent hardware store

How do you support to prevent those from being made in the black market?
Make the drugs legal, and there will be no drug gangs
What is your recommended retail price for heroin then? If you owned a grocery store, how much would you keep in stock on the shelves?

What you are basically asking for is for the drug gangs (groups that manufacture and sell illegal drugs) to be replaced by gun gangs ( groups that manufacture and sell illegal guns)

Either way, the elderly lady still needs to protect herself.

Is there any conceptual objection to this principle? If and when we can agree on this principle, then the practical solution can be addressed.
Considering that the solution sought is, by definition, a practical one, that has to be the starting point for any discussion. Will the proposed solution achieve the effect desired.

So how do you propose to achieve the desired effect?

Of course, the correct Catholic response is to evangelize everyone, so that the question of what firearms are owned by whom is meaningless, since no one would seek to harm another. If our neighbor enjoyed shooting water barrels with artillery, no one would give a fig if he owned a 155mm howitzer or not.

If we are discussing ‘pie in the sky’ conceptual solutions why not start there,?

I have no problem with this solution. Once we dealt with the problem as stated, we can discuss the practicality of yours. 🙂 And then we can also investigate which solution is easier to put into practice
Sounds good. Let’s eliminate any desire for violence, and then we can see if gun control is needed after that.

Actually, based on my hands and wrists, a semi-auto is exactly what is needed. As I have stated, I am disabled. If it isn’t semi-auto, it is a club. One shot and my hands won’t be able to hold it.

And if you look at statistics you will notice that it mentions “partner” or " intimate partner." But it doesn’t use the word “husband.” There is a reason for that.

I am married. And have been for over 25 years. In addition, we are both over 50. Stats on that? If I end up murdered, even the police aren’t going to focus on my husband of over 25 years.

We do have the technology to eliminate firearms related violence.
why just reduce ALL violence, then no one would care about who has firearms or not. Having an Uzi would then be no more threating than having juggling clubs.
