Gun ownership up, crime down

I said, “I suspect.”

In other words, it’s my opinion.

Jim
It is more than documented. The other day I saw a documentary of National Geographic about the triads of Tokyo and Honk-Kong. They receive money to defend their clients in some territory. But the territories are disputed so there are fights among them. sometimes, like in Chicago, 2 whole gangs were wiped out in fights against each other. The remaining 4 are in jails with sentences of 100 years and more.

And were replaced…

You know, Jim, the entire situation of the MacDonals case revolved around the guy wanting to be able to defend himslef against the thugs who had guns, even though Chicago’s anti legal gun ownership laws were among the strictest.
The SCOTUS had already said that police are not accountable for preventing crime. Therefore, citizens must be able to do so, using the individual right already enumerated and protcted in the Bill of Rights. So, even if there isn’t a link (which I suspect there is), even if the relationship is only correlative and not causative, it still is a good thing.

Jon
You know, Jon, it is a bad thing.

The USA has got the army to protect the country and there is no need to protect against…Obama !!! which is a funny argument that I hear, to defend against a tyrannical government…in the USA Nixon was kicked out without guns…

Man is bad. When there are punches, you use them. Knives, you use them. Guns, you use them. Machine-guns, you use them. Suicide-bombers, you use them. Atomic Bombs, finally, you use them.

The fight is the same, the outcome completely different. Let’s not delude. We ask for nuclear disarmament (which safety is the greatest in the world !) and at the same time defend private armament (which safety is the weakest in the world !)?

Sorry, I do not believe that.
Now, you have a fight at home: there are no guns. The outcome will be some bruises or some cuts.
The same with guns: someone may get killed.

Knowing human nature as I know and simply perusing newspapers, you see that domestic fights ending in murder with guns are more than many. You seldom see a domestic fights end in death without guns.

I mean, let’s face it: defense or attack, guns are not intended to picnic. They are intended to kill. Guns are not the same thing as sticks, mustard powder, stunning guns, Judo and other defense systems that I do not bother to quote. Guns are intended to go to the throat, to kill.

Obviously, with easy to access guns, criminals do not bother to go through difficult ways to buy a gun. They have an easy way.

Besides, normal citizens are armed with guns which do not defend from the heavy weaponry that criminals have.

And let’s forget hunting, that was not what we were talking about.
You are tragically misinformed.

The crime rate of Tijuana is caused by the USA !
The crime rate in Tijuana is cause by the people who live in Tijuana. Most of it is created by drug cartels, another benefit of America’s glorious War on Drugs ™.

Sorry, the Mexican wars have to do with the export of drugs to the USA and the guns come from the USA. On discussing Mexico, this subject has to be taken in consideration.

The USA is the biggest market for drugs in the whole words, even for painkillers.

Here I take a stand: society has turned their backs to Christ and turned to wrong ways.
Most of the drug cartels use Russia and Chinese weaponry. The American guns that are there exist courtesy of the Obama Administration.

It’s not "I’ who’s “claiming” anything. It’s the criminologists who do study and have studied this and compiled the statistics, who observe and report their findings. Not a lot of older men have the energy and agility to maintain a life of crime on a regular basis. At some point, diminishing returns set in. As people slow down they are less interested in fighting against nature to maintain that lifestyle.

In fact, in this country there has been developing a growing need for gerontologists due to the aging of the population. (Baby Boomers – a very large segment of the population --reaching Senior years.)

As people age, they aren’t “less interested in using firearms.” They are less interested in pursuing a life of crime. The statistics bear it out.

The number of domestic figthts that result in gun violence is minor, and often the gun involved is illegal. But that said, I could argue that if there’s an accident on the road involving bikes, there will be only bumps and bruises. The same with cars: someone may get killed.

See above.

Well, here’s the deal. Criminals will have guns. There’s no stopping that. If a criminal comes to my house with a gun, sticks and judo are probably not a good deterent, much less an even fight.
Obviously, with easy to access guns, criminals do not bother to go through difficult ways to buy a gun. They have an easy way.
this is just not the case, with the current instant-check system in place. Criminals cannot get guns through legal means, but that doesn’t stop them from getting guns.
Besides, normal citizens are armed with guns which do not defend from the heavy weaponry that criminals have.
An argument for citizens having access to more powerful weapons? Or a white flag of surrender?
And let’s forget hunting, that was not what we were talking about.
You are exactly right! The 2nd amendment has nothing to do with hunting, or criminals really. It has to do with the fact that the preservation of a free state is dependent on an armed citzenry.

Actually the Obama Administration also helped arm them with Chinese and Russian weapons too. AK47s are cheaper than AR15s.

Your kidding right? That is not what I’ve seen around here. Drugs may be easier to get, but that doesn’t mean the violence due to them have stopped, if anything they’ve gotten worst! Gangs out here are constantly fighting each other.
Then the murder rate reported in the OP should be increasing, not declining.

I never mentioned Obama, but if you think that there is no possibility of a tyrant coming to power in this country, then you need to read the first line of your next paragraph: ** “Man is bad.”**
Man is bad. When there are punches, you use them. Knives, you use them. Guns, you use them. Machine-guns, you use them. Suicide-bombers, you use them. Atomic Bombs, finally, you use them.
Agreed. And I want to be sure that, if need be, I am not trying to fight off an intruder who has a gun with a flip flop.

The existence of these United States is a direct result of private arms. The Battle of Lexington and Concord was specifically about the private arms stored for use by the Minutemen. We can see, today, the result of an unarmed citizenry: in Syria.

Here is a good idea. Don’t bring a judo uniform to a gun fight.

Gangs are the police in the territories.
Like Mafia in Sicily.
Now they’re not.

They kill each other and the innocent who are in the way.

Even the Mafia kept hands off children and wives of their foes.

Not so drug gangs.

Jim

Not based on what I saw at the National Gun Show this weekend. The price of a stock AK is within $100 of a stock AR. Sellers have pumped the price up. People still want the AK because bulk ammo is much cheaper.

Ya, that’s the Cosa Nostra. The American Mafia, not so much.

But that wasn’t the intent, as you obviously ignore.

The intent was that the CIA was trying to follow the traffic path of gun smuggling into China, but setting up a covert operation which sold guns to the gun runners.

They made a mistake in how they tracked the operation and as a result, lost the weapons they sold.

In other words, it was an unintended mistake.

Actually Fast and Furious had no tracking component. The claim is that they “would” track the weapons into Mexico but they made no provision to do so. No contact with Mexican law enforcement, no special provisions through the State Dept - nothing. All the Dept of Justice did was facilitate the sale of weapons to international drug cartels - nothing more, nothing less. Claiming otherwise shows ignorance of the facts as they have been presented to date.
