Maybe we should put an age limit when you can purchase a semi automatic AR-15 and the age should be 21. It seems most of the school shooters are under 21 and that would help wipe out some of those incidents so they can concentrate on the other older shooters.

We have an age limit for alcohol, why not an age limit for buying AR-15?

Along with having more security people at the school, some armed guards and the number of guards by size and age of students. No one is let into the building unless escorted, glass should be special. There are proactive things that can be done. Those parents that can are buying bullet-proof backpacks.

In the morning and afternoon the most dangerous times when there is a great deal of activity, more precautions could be in place.

It’s not the AR15. There are other guns with similar capabilites all over the market. If not an AR, the kid would have gotten a Ruger Mini 14, or an m14…
Banning ‘types’ of guns is futile.

Florida generally prohibits a person under age 18 from possessing a firearm.1 However, this prohibition does not apply to unloaded firearms in the minor’s home.2 It also does not apply if the minor is:

Engaged in a lawful hunting activity and is at least age 16 or, if under age 16, is supervised by an adult;
Engaged in a lawful marksmanship competition or practice or other lawful recreational shooting activity, and is at least age 16 or, if under age 16, is supervised by an adult who is acting with the consent of the minor’s parent or guardian; or
Transporting an unloaded firearm directly to or from one of the aforementioned events.3
Florida law penalizes any parent or guardian, or other adult responsible for the welfare of a minor, who knowingly and willfully permits the minor to possess a firearm in violation these provisions.4

Florida also prohibits any dealer from selling or transferring any firearm to a minor under age 18.5 In addition, Florida law penalizes any person who knowingly or willfully sells or transfers a firearm to a minor without the permission of the minor’s parent or guardian.6 Note that federal age restrictions also apply, and generally prohibit licensed firearms dealers from selling handguns to persons under age 21. For other child safety measures, see the Florida Child Access Prevention section.

All long guns are limited to people 18+ when purchasing. Handguns are 21+. To limit an AR to someone over 18 would mean also limiting all shotguns, bolt action rifles, etc.

I’d subscribe to that, if and only if we also raised every other age for adulthood in society to 21+. Drinking, smoking, marriage, military enlistment, and particularly voting.

Not saying all guns, just the automatic one.

I’m saying could we extend the law to age 21 like alcohol… Most school shooters are very young.

EXACTLY! There are laws prohibiting drugs and obiously they aren’t working. We have laws against rape and it
didn’t stop Clinton. Laws don’t make us right they simply show us what we ought not do. And many, most in fact don’t care about laws. How many people do you see daily texting and driving.

As someone who lives in the midwest, I can say that making herion illegal has done an amazing amount of good…

If you make them harder to get the one you are saying that are automatic, certainly it would be easier for the security guard to take someone down who just has a regular type gun.

These school shooting may not be preventable but there are things that could be done to limit the amount of death.

Any gun where you can get hundred of rounds off in minutes should be over age 21. Would help. Florida should take it up in their legislature.

That along with more armed security at schools, special glass, escorting anyone who comes in.

Or it would push him to other means of death.

Look at the Oklahoma city bombings. Are we going to make panel trucks and fertilizer illegal?

No but it is a beginning. By beginning I don’t mean as a means to take anyone guns away.

The problem is that we no longer institutionalize people who are criminally insane. Since we have shut down mental institutions, we have all these shootings. Coincidence?

Never going to happen. Semi-auto is the word you’re looking for. 1 shot fired for 1 pull of the trigger, the recoil or excess gas is then directed to moving the bolt back to the rear where the spent casing is ejected and the next one loaded automatically. That’s roughly 90% of the most popular firearms in the country.

Sorry profiling. These shooters are all young, white males usually associated somehow with the school.

They are under 21

Mental illness has been a major problem but this gets tricky because for the millions of young kids who have mental illness, only a few turn to guns. . This case was messed up.

I can’t understand your post very well, due to lack of punctuation. Sorry.

I think almost all of you guys are wrong on this. Guns are a tool designed for putting holes in other human beings. You can justify or spin it however you want, but I don’t remember the part where Jesus said, “And thou mayest pepper thine enemy’s chest with buckshot if thou fearest him, or if he angerest you.”

Look around the world at murder and death rates, and also incarceration rates. The US is not doing well in terms of “love thy neighbor,” and would do well to emulate countries like Canada or European nations which have much lower rates of gun violence.

Maybe that is isue. We have guns in our home but they are basically for target shooting or protection, not this type.

How do other countries treat the criminally insane? Give them some Prozac and let them loose?
