If hundreds and hundreds of young people are killed with hammers, then we should control the purchase of hammers.
The fact is that shooting is a much more efficient way of killing than anything else except bombs or chemical weapons. You can get a 150-lb kid to mow through tons of biomass in a few minutes, and you have rooms full of people’s children bleeding out onto their classroom floors.
It’s still a very simple formula-- guns are a tool for punching holes through people, which often kills them. If it is our goal to avoid the death of ourselves and others, then we should not allow that tool to be easily obtained.
