Pastor John Hagee sent a letter today click here] to Catholic League president Bill Donohue that effectively ends the dispute the two men have had.
That’s nice to hear. However, if he’s really sorry, why is he still selling the offensive books on his website?

I find Donahue to be a fairly nutty fellow. He always shows up on Cable News political shows. I knew he would find a way to reconcile with Hagee. They have the same political leanings.

I think John Hagee is sincere in his apology,
and he was sincere in his earlier antiCatholic statements,
because he believes the protestant research he reads, which often is tinged with a strong antiCatholic bias.
He has seen further research which has opened his eyes,
and he has apologized. I accept his apology.
Jimmy Swaggart has NEVER apologized for his antiCatholicism.
And I would LOVE to see a similar apology
from that vicious Catholic-Baiter, Dave Hunt, too.

As for John Hagee, as far as I’m concerned,
the case is closed.

:tiphat: Brotherhrolf,I live in the San Antonio Archdiocese
though not in the city myself.I think it is a political ploy personally since he endorsed McCain. For those who don’t know who he is,John Hagee is pastor of CornerStone Church at Loop 1604 and StoneOak Parkway,a huge megachurch in San Antonio.

I am glad he apologized, but still don’t trust him.

Hagee is clueless. He has no idea what he’s talking about concerning the Church nor the Jews.

McCain advisor Pastor John Hagee has responded to Donohue’s Catholic League who protested remarks categorizing the Catholic Church as anti-semitic

Donohue says he is satisfied with the apology, for remarks that could have cost McCain greatly in Catholic support
I can’t judge hagee’s veracity but I have suspicions the McCain campaign could have pressured this. maybe not.

Reading Hagee his beleifs are solid for what they are worth.

I wonder what kind of reaction he got from his congregation before the positive comment.

His congregation is huge and I suspect some anyway may have had problems with his almost Wright like rhetoric at times in the past.

Rather than find Bill Donohue nutty, as described by johnlal, I find him refreshing. It’s about time someone defended our faith publicly. We tend to sit back while the Church is criticized for every single thing the secular media doesn’t agree with, and Mr. Donohue comes out and vigorously defends the Church. He has the guts to stand up for the Church. It would be nice to see more of our bishops show as much support for the faith.

Pastor John Hagee sent a letter today click here] to Catholic League president Bill Donohue that effectively ends the dispute the two men have had. Donohue comments as follows:

“After weeks of meeting with various Catholic leaders, and accessing scholarly literature on Catholic-Jewish relations, Pastor John Hagee has demonstrated an improved understanding of the Catholic Church and its history. In his letter to me, Hagee says, ‘I want to express my deep regret for any comments that Catholics have found hurtful.’ He specifically cites his emphasis of ‘the darkest chapters in the history of Catholic and Protestant relations with the Jews,’ and has pledged to provide a more complete and balanced portrayal going forward that will not reinforce mischaracterizations of the Catholic Church. And while he stresses that his invocation of terms like ‘apostate church’ and the ‘great whore’ were never meant by him to describe the Catholic Church, he acknowledges that anti-Catholics have long employed such language.

“The tone of Hagee’s letter is sincere. He wants reconciliation and he has achieved it. Indeed, the Catholic League welcomes his apology. What Hagee has done takes courage and quite frankly I never expected him to demonstrate such sensitivity to our concerns. But he has done just that. Now Catholics, along with Jews, can work with Pastor Hagee in making interfaith relations stronger than ever. Whatever problems we had before are now history. This case is closed.”

Until I see him publicly apologize for his wicked, hateful slander against Holy Mother Church and acknowledge that Catholics are indeed Christians, I don’t buy a word of it.

A carefully worded letter to Bill Donahue means nothing to me. I want him to openly, in his own megachurch and on TV, do these things. Until then, it’s nothing more than politics…and cynical politics at that.

Go to catholic.org and read about the face to face meeting between Pastor Hagee and Mr. Donahue.

As catholics, we should celebrate this - we won a battle.

And, as Jesus said, forgive those who have trespassed against us. Just as the Father has forgiven you and me.

Unless, you are given to the notion that unless one is Roman Catholic, one is not a Christian and that is what you dislike the man for.
