This^. He keeps on tap dancing around the issue and not acknowledging reality and continues to think he is “winning” the debate, when in fact he is just ruining the credibility for his side. I think it is pretty clear to everyone who is reading that he is willing to change the pagan meaning of the Christmas tree, but refuses to recognize that others can change the meaning of some Halloween practices.

In 722 A.D., Saint Boniface, an English missionary and Benedictine monk who was known
as the “Apostle of Germany,” came upon some men about to cut down a huge oak tree to be used as a stake for a human sacrifice to Thor, one of the Norse Gods. With a mighty

Not at all. I have already quoted Orthodox saints, Orthodox priests, and Catholic priests. I think that many people choose to saty in denial on this issue for the sake of “harmless fun.” 😦

PS…Magisterium is spelled with an “i”.

Not at all. I responded with the history as set forth by a great saint of the Church. I do not know how to tap dance. 😃

I am still waiting for an explanation as to how dressing like demons and ghouls…and decorating houses and business like the gateway to hell…is good and holy.

You did not answer how you can adopt something with a pagan history. You just told me about when we adopted something with a pagan history.

You obviously didn’t read my posts thoroughly because I talked about the lack of demon and ghoul costumes of children. I have seen none come to my door trick or treating. They are usually things like princesses, fire men, and super heros. Not demons or ghouls. Usually that is an adult thing. So, ya, you didn’t read my post or convieniently ignored things I said and only partially quoted me.

We must never make such assumptions of others just because they do not agree with us. There is no denial and no need to judge others thusly. There is simply a different opinion on the evidence (in my case, from Church teaching).

If I was a member of an Orthodox Church, I would consider that evidence as carrying authority. I am not, and I don’t.

For now, I will adhere to the principle:
  • In essentials, unity; in non-essentials, liberty; and in all things love.*
 
I think Mickey has an issue of conveniently ignoring large parts of posts or reading comprehension issues. Because just with me he has changed my words, not fully quoted me, or ignored large parts of my posts. This is my last post on here. This is just futile now. He is obviously going to keep using these tactics.

Your argument is that because St. Boniface used the tree it isn’t pagan? The church consecrated trees of pagan worship to convert the heathen. Because St. Boniface held up the fern shows in no way that it was never pagan. You present a very week argument.

PS. "kindness is spelled with an “n”. Your attempt to show superiority is not necessary, we are all flawed, even you. Come to think of it that’s what Halloween shows, the flawed and temporal existence of man.
 
On the issue of paganism: Has anyone read the inscriptions on the obelisk in St. Peter’s Square?

Nah…it’s just a quirk I have. When I was Latin Catholic…there were so many people who spelled that word incorrectly…that I got used to letting them know. 😛

No one is dressing like demons and ghouls. They are dressing like fictional beings that happen to be demons and ghouls.

I fail to see what part of Catholic teaching this violates.

No. My argument is that St Boniface gave us the tree. Christ was crucified on a tree. It was NEVER pagan for Christians. It was pagan for pagans. Some feel that maybe it came from the Germans where they used to use the tree for Liturgical plays. But I certainly reject your druid pagan explanation. With all due respect, I will listen to St Boniface before I do to you. I’m still waiting for your halloween explanation.

The point remains: no one has actually demonstrated why we should believe ten-year-olds actually think they are ghouls or demons.
