That’s right, every Irish man and woman in every pub, singing patriotic songs should have been quoted, especially at the end of the night.

No security service works like that.
terrorism is a means to political ends. the IRA wanted a united ireland. what does hamas want? (and what does it have to do with conquering Rome, an entirely ludicrous threat?)

Might refer to the Georgia that used to be part of the Soviet Union, although I think that’s more Asian than European.
Well, I thought Carter was from Georgia, US…maybe he just said that to fool us all into thinking we were electing an American. 😛

Hey…thanks for illustrating our points! The European press has quoted Falwell, Robertson, etc. in the past, so obviously they don’t have a problem quoting “cranks.”
There’s nothing wrong with quoteing “cranks” and I agrea this is a perfectly good news story, the problem is that the press reporting it is a fear mongering sham, which somewhat discredits them.
BTW…slight, but important, difference…Falwell is not a member of our Congress. The Hamas cleric is an MP. Do you recognize the difference?
Well, I’d say the main difference is one’s an obscure MP in a small, relatively impotent former OT, and the other was an extraordionairly influential force in the ruleing part of the worlds only economic and military superpower.

Your perspective is interesting here. Your take on this story seems to be to take Fox News to task for reporting it saying the speaker is a ‘crank’.

However, your parallel between the speaker (a Hamas parliment member and cleric) and Irish folks in a pub does not seem to be accurate. If a leader of Sinn Fein or the Northern Ireland government made an equivalent statement (which I think would have been a more appropriate parallel), would it have not been news?

An extremely biased opinion, which somewhat discredits you.

Okay, so another person who agrees we should not treat Hamas as a legitimate government. We are making progress on this forum. 👍

You inferred it by claiming that the quoting of it in the American press was part of some grand scheme to scare the people.
I said absolutely nothing about it being a ‘grand scheme to scare the people’. My guess is that the only people who will be scared are the “semi-professional and gifted amateur easily scare-able” who are a market who should be served, I do agree.

I know that it’s a bit, sort of, pedantic of me to say this but you really ought to be attacking me for what I say and not just make up what I’m supposed to have said and then attack it.

As I was asking, do they have stringers hanging out looking desperately for Muslim cranks to quote?
I suppose this is one way of looking at it. Are you saying you prefer the style of ‘journalism’ that simply reprints AP articles and recycles government and institutional press releases?

I don’t have cable TV, so I really have no informed opinion on FOX. But my regular TV sure has plenty of the latter kind of journalism and it sure seems worthless to me. Pity that I can get better news about US politics from BBC rebroadcasts on PBS than I can on ABC or CBS.

I’d feel rather better if MORE journalists went around digging for stories instead of just looking up their topic on google…

How is a general reply (you weren’t quoted) “directed at a European?” Are you getting paranoid?
I was just pointing out that, if he’d wanted to make allusions to me supporting some politician the bitingness of the attack would have been much greater if he’d chosen somebody within my environment.
Of course, we are all out to get you, so maybe you should be. 😉 😃
Heaven’s you’re witty!

It would be easier, if you spoke your views plainly, rather than hiding behind snarky remarks, such as “Do Fox have stringers hanging out at Mosques all over the world waiting for some crank to say something to frighten Americans?”

When you post something like this, I paraphrase it as a “grand scheme to scare the people.” It really isn’t that big of a stretch.

I realize that I shouldn’t respond in kind with my snarky remarks, but I can’t help myself. I met enough jingoistic Brits when I was working there, to recognize your elitist anti-American remarks for what they are. Thankfully, I know that all Brits don’t think that way.

How so?

I never said that, I was pointing out how much drastically more important Falwell’s non-sense is than an obscure MP in a former OT

If some Muslim from some backward village in the middle of nowhere, made a speech saying that his villagers were going to land on Mars and claim it for the Ummah, it would be reported seriously somewhere on CAF to be followed by a flock of people posting “Ain’t It Awful” and “It’s all the fault of the cowering liberal fascist gay evolutionist . . . .”

Admittedly, those of us that think that the idea that people think such a threat should be taken seriously is even funnier than the threat itself, would also be around.

So, are the words of a Hamas MP important, or not? Falwell isn’t part of the article. 🤷

A phrase like “economical with the veracities” comes to mind.

Well done.

Warning: The level of charity on this thread is about as dismal as the ability of the participants to stay on topic.

A number of posts will be edited or deleted and some infractions will probably be issued. Clean it up on your own, folks. This kind of posting is uncalled for. If it continues, there will be suspensions rather than infractions issued. It’s up to you.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Those are my alternatives?

Look, I’ve not said that such things shouldn’t be published, I’m not against people publishing stories about Elvis driving a bus on the moon or, more far-fetched, I’ll admit, the idea that Hamas are going to take over Rome.

Falwell was attempted to provide some context and common sense, clearly every religious nut cannot be taken seriously.

I find this very interesting, people here freak out over a MP saying something stupid, yet never seem to paus to consider how the Arab world feels knowing out government has extreamly close ties and it’s base is composed of nuts who beleive the end time will culminate in a final battle between the evil forces of the anti-Christ and Israel and her allies, especially when many of those said nuts belwive Islam is a satanic religion

As for is it important(MP’s comments), sure, all information is
