It’s Mills 🙂

Remember, General statements can be a Major headache. They assume people’s Private thoughts, although they often contain a Colonel of truth.
Very good…
Amen.

Jon
Another Amen for Reunion Day!
Chiefly speaking it sounds Petty to me but I’m just an Apprentice. So I must Enlist your help to Recruit a response.
Also very good.

I am in between, have never thought of reformation day in any way, but have, since my earliest memory, been baffled at the animosity of differences and why we were rarely, if ever, able to rejoice in the extraordinary similarities.**
Jesus and His commandment to love one another comes to mind.
Of course, there are many others. 😃

**In my general experience.

I listened to the music of Bert Kaempfert. bert kaempfert youtube
Oh, my, I remember him. Quite a distinctive sound.

So is it irreverent to say “Happy All Saint’s Day”?
Genuinely asked, just to be clear.

In some countries, Mexico I think is one, it is called Day of the Dead.🤷

Oh, I have some relatives that fit your previous comment just perfectly. Just wondering if there was a geographic similarity happening. 🙂
Haha, no no, I’m from NY. Its a common view among Lutherans here as well.

I think among Lutherans there is very little anti-catholic sentiment. In-fact, the Roman Catholic church has high visibility as it should. Francis speaks to all Christians; the universal response has been quite positive. The main goal of the Provoo Communion of Lutheran and Anglican is reunion of all Catholics with the Pope.

Individuals may speak ill of other Christians but its generally understood that what unites us is our common belief in Christ, our Savior.

So long as they don’t try to sack Rome again, it’s fine.
I found this comment interesting because the Catholic Emperor who was fighting against the Protestants in Germany, and who negotiated holding the Council in Trent, had himself sacked Rome once. 😃

And that’s how American football was born 🙂

So are there any Catholic posters here who do wish their protestant friends “Happy Reformation Day”? (As I said earlier, I wouldn’t feel entirely comfortable doing so.)

I have a friend who wrote this on Facebook. She is a reformed christian through and through, but I don’t understand why someone would say it is a happy day. I can’t imagine an Orthodox person writing “Happy Schism Day”.
This has always struck me as being akin to one celebrating the anniversary of their divorce.

Well, call it what you will, but I still say that the

is an offensive swipe at the Orthodox.
I wasn’t referring to the Orthodox. I was referring to the thread topic “Happy Reformation Day”. But why would it be offensive for one to say that they can’t imagine the Orthodox celebrating the schism? I can’t imagine that either, especially when the Orthodox will say that the Catholic Church is the schismatic Church. Not sure what your point is, I guess. 🤷

Probably for the same strange reason people say “Happy Memorial Day,” or “Happy Remembrance Day.” 🤷

Happy All Saints’ Day! What’s left of it. 🙂

Yes, I know. I meant the post you quoted.

Interesting. So you wouldn’t be offended if the comment had instead been "I can’t imagine a Catholic person writing ‘Happy Schism Day’ " (written by an Orthodox)?

well, most of the protestants i know have told me that was their reason. and let’s be honest, that is kind of how it started. martin luther thought the church had corrupted church doctrine and there were lots of abuses among the clergy. which, of course, i odnt’ deny that their were. but i think there could have been better ways to solve the issue. i’m sorry if my comment doesn’t apply to you, it wasn’t meant to be a generalization. but i see your point, i will be more careful with wording next time. my apologies
There probably would have been a better way if only the Catholic hierarchy would not have had closed ears and had a discussion with Luther. The purpose of the 95 Theses was a call for discussions. The Catholic hierarchy at the time saw Luther as a threat to the sale of Indulgences, after all there was loans to be paid off. The Bishop Albert of Mainz went into great debt to buy his three bishoprics.

Just one more thought, the 500th anniversary will be here in 2017, not too far off for a real celebration.

Yes, I see your point.

I have to admit that I know of Lutherans who have “ugly thoughts” about the Catholic Church but I also know many who have much respect for it. I don’t believe in putting up a wall between our traditions. In my seminary education, I took a number of my courses in Catholic seminaries and was blessed by the opportunity to learn more about Catholic theology. I am still a Lutheran, but I do not and will not speak ill of my Catholic brethren.
Thank you! This is nice to hear. My sister’s Baptist minister said Catholics are not Christians and must be converted. Which is why he re-baptized my sister and Dad when they both left the Catholic Church 😦
