Harold Camping has shown very clearly what happens when one man feels that he can interpret Holy Scripture with no guidance but his own interpretation. He has sounded defeated sola scriptura, and I for one, thank him.

I think what truly grates on the nerves of some bible Christians is that we try to obey something higher than the ego. Christ placed His Church over us. The Church produced the bible by inspiration. The Church interprets the bible it produced. This causes many to foam at the mouth, for some reason.

Harold Egbert Camping is just another false prophet.
One would have thought he had learnt his lesson the last time he falsely predicted that the Rapture would occur in September 1994. No, not his ilk. Today he made us all wait for 6pm, East African Time. Hardly anyone believed him of course but still, people waited if only to say " I told you so"😃

One problem: Even those who believe in sola scriptura said that Camping was wrong based on their sola scriptura point of view. Camping’s problem was not that he used the Bible alone but that he ignored Scripture. You might just as well say that the existence of the Jehovah’s Witnesses refutes it. There were heresies before the idea of sola scriptura ever occurred to anyone.

Actually, he did not defeat sola scriptura. He did what the catholic church has done for many years. He add to the bible and that my friend is why he failed. Example: The catholic church can’t truly identify who the anti-christ is because they add to the bible instead of letting the bible define itself. No you shouldn’t attempt to interpret it on your own but with the help and guidance of the Holy Spirit, you do not need man to do it for you.

Please provide evidence that the Catholic Church has added to the Bible.

That’s like saying that a rogue Priest has refuted Catholicism. The fact is, Harold Camping has not used sola scriptura.

If you researched his methods, Harold Camping used numerology to work it out. He used this method -
Wikipedia:
Camping takes the 17th day of the second month mentioned in Genesis 7:11 to be May 21, and hence predicts the rapture to occur on this date.[7] Another argument[22] that Camping uses in favor of the May 21 date is as follows:
  1. The number five equals “atonement”, the number ten equals “completeness”, and the number seventeen equals “heaven”.
  2. Christ is said to have hung on the cross on April 1, 33 AD. The time between April 1, 33 AD and April 1, 2011 is 1,978 years.
  3. If 1,978 is multiplied by 365.2422 days (the number of days in a solar year, not to be confused with the lunar year), the result is 722,449.
  4. The time between April 1 and May 21 is 51 days.
  5. 51 added to 722,449 is 722,500.
  6. (5 × 10 × 17)2 or (atonement × completeness × heaven)2 also equals 722,500.
Thus, Camping concludes that 5 × 10 × 17 is telling us a “story from the time Christ made payment for our sins until we’re completely saved.”[20]

Camping has not been precise about the exact timing of the event, saying that “maybe” we can know the hour.[23] He has suggested that “days” in the Bible refer to daylight hours particularly.[23] Another account says the “great earthquake” which signals the start of the Rapture will “start in the Pacific Rim at around the 6 p.m. local time hour, in each time zone.”[24]

Well, I thought that today shows that Harold Camping’s interpretation failed in a particularly public and spectacular way. Or do I need to wait a few more hours before making that claim?

My friend, he failed when he strayed away from the bible years ago. There are so many prophecies that he ignored when he made this claim.

What do you call your traditions?
If you are referring to Sacred (or Apostolic) Tradition, I would say that it is the teachings of Jesus which were not written down but passed on orally. However these have not been added to Scripture.

The problem is that you are assuming that only the teachings which were written down in the Bible are completely authoritative. Therefore you must be able to point to some passage of Scripture which says that is the case. If not, you are adding to Scripture. Please tell me which passage in the Bible teaches what you claim.

My friend, Jesus gave us all we need for salvation in the bible. Wrong or right?

He also gave us prophecies and past occurrences that will prepare us for that day when the son of perdition will be revealed (a great time of trouble) amongst many other things.

How we should live and multiple examples. Did He not leave us with these things?

That still doesn’t prove that the Bible alone is our only infallible guide.

Are you aware that there was no biblical canon until the 4th century? What did believers have before that?

You won’t agree with me. You will only argue. You and I know that my point has been made. 🙂
That’s pretty lame.

It might interest you to know that I used to be an Evangelical Christian just like you. I discovered that the Catholic Church was the true Bible church.

Friend, the bible is obviously not your final authority. Yet you want me to “prove” to you from the bible. That is a complete contradiction. Can you see it? You do realize you have a problem with the bible being your guide? 🤷

Did you discover this by reading the prophecies of Daniel?

What I see is that you are unable to support yout beliefs from the Bible so you are throwing up a smokescreen. That’s just sad.

I have absolutely no problem with the Bible being my guide. What I have a problem with is people like you who try to make it say something it doesn’t say, just like Harold Camping.
