Just finished the book last night so i have missed all that has been said before in this thread. IMO Rowling could not have ended the book better. Even in the height of anger Harry could not bring himslef to even kill Voldermort.
Snape ends up as kinda good guy and for reasons I would never have guessed. Great book

I’m glad you liked it. I think I’m going to reread it in the next month or so- I flew through it so fast the first time, I want to go back and savor it now.

Same here-in fact just after I finished it I reread the last three chapter again as I was rusihng. i suspect in am month or so i will reread the whole series. It will be fun to look at the events knowing how it all ends

Not much. There are some new character that met an quick demise - Bathilda Bagshot, Ted Tonks, etc.
Oh and Kenneth Branaugh’s character was Gilderoy Lockhart (DADA teacher, book #2).

Brannaugh probably won’t be in the next one since Lockhart wasn’t in the Half-Blood Prince. Trelawney (Emma Thompson) might and Helena Bonham Carter as Bellatrix Lestrange probably will be in the next one.

As\was Kreacher. I winder if we could convince them to make deathly Hallows intotwo movies -like they did with Pirates. There has ben a lot left out of the last two movies as the books got longer

As I remember, Kreacher WAS in the OOTP movie…Sirius (Gary Oldman) yelled at him when Harry discovered the Black family tapestry hanging at 12 Grimmauld Place. Unfortunately, his part was not very big in the movie, unlike the book.

I just watched an interview with JKR. Harry and Ron actually turn out to be the best aurors ever-- they more or less, “revolutionize,” or should I say, “revolutionise” that dept. of the Ministry of Magic. Hermione is doing something in the enforcement of Magical Law.
As for the religious issues and the book, she says that she couldn’t put more of it in previous books because it might give away the ending, and a lot of it came from her own, “struggles” with belief, to hold on to belief.

Interesting, isn’t it, that in DH the Minister asks Hermione if she is considering a career in Magical Law, to which she snaps, “Of COURSE not! I’m going to do some good in life”! I guess this is just another little “zinger” meant to show that, as life goes on, the characters change. . .except they do not.
Harry’s treatment of Draco is still stiff. The Houses are still divided, Slytherin is still the ‘ugly duckling’, etc. Whereas Lucius Malfoy and Arthur Weasley once bickered, with Malfoy the ‘successful’ one and Arthur the 'poor but proud good guy", now it’s Ron riding the tide of celebrity and Draco now not only out of ‘power’ but physically ‘balding’ and unattractive. The fact that Ron’s treatment of Draco not only extends to him looking down on Draco but that he encourages his daughter to stomp on Draco’s SON, lessons-wise, makes it clear that Ron is just as petty as Lucius Malfoy.
It still amazes me that JK can’t be bothered to actually write this information in the book itself but treats her ‘web’ info as canon. News flash. . .not everybody has internet access. And even those who do often prefer to have ‘printed matter’ in their hands.
I was very disappointed in the book, as I have been basically since Book 3. No denying that she can turn some good phrases, but quite honestly, I feel she fell victim to her own ‘good press’. Rather than sticking to what she had originally written, she let all the fans have (name removed by moderator)ut. Too many cooks spoil the broth, as the saying goes, and this is most definitely spoilt.
We care about ‘characters’ enough to recognize when they are out of character (OOC) and are concerned by it. It is a pity and a shame that it appears that JK is more concerned over her celebrity status than about the people who made her a celebrity in the first place. . .IMO.
