God bless you on your journey! When I thought about it today, I realized that I love God far more now and appreciate Him way more now than I ever have in my entire life! Never realized just how much I love Him and appreciate Him until I sat back and
thought about it! Yes, i love God, but it really just hit me today just how much i’ve changed and how far i have journeyed to get to where Iam at today, and that is because of God that Iam where Iam at these days! Praise be to:bowdown: God the Father!

I have informed my family concerning my path to becoming confirmed in the Roman Catholic Church. All went well. They understand my requirements for attending mass, fish-only on Fridays, and fasting on Sundays.
welcome home, cats and all. However I should point out Sundays are the one day we do not fast. We do not fast when the Bridegroom is present. Every Sunday is an Easter celebration so we do not fast. There is not and never has been a requirement to eat fish on Friday. The old discipline required abstinence from meat on Fridays, and on weekdays of Lent, but we are now permitted to substitute any other penitential practice. Let’s not make this harder than it has to be. Of course, any day you want to eat fish will certainly make you popular with the cats.

By the way, the nearest Catholic Church to me, and the one I’ll probably be confirmed in, is Saint Philomena’s in Carson, California. I fly back from Seattle to Long Beach this Saturday (I actually live in Torrance) and will attend my first RCIA class at the Church starting 10:30 AM. But I am grateful for my 5 classes/week at catechismclass.com👍

man, would i ever love to go to a saint philomena church!

I have informed my family concerning my path to becoming confirmed in the Roman Catholic Church. All went well. They understand my requirements for attending mass, fish-only on Fridays, and fasting on Sundays. And Mother understands why I spend an hour or two in my bedroom on prayers. And why I am on the computer at odd hours:rolleyes:

Of course, none of this will change the ways my cats regard me. Despite what some of my critics in AA and elsewhere have said, I do not regard the cats as my Higher Power for staying sober. This not change the fact that the cats regard themselves as my Higher Power and expect to be treated that way. Fortunately, I see no problems or conflicts in attending to their whims.

What are “cats?”

(Sorry, I don’t know where the quote buttons are)

“The old discipline required abstinence from meat on Fridays, and on weekdays of Lent, but we are now permitted to substitute any other penitential practice.”

Just an fyi … In the Byzantine Catholic Church, we still don’t eat meat on Fridays throughout the year and fast especially during Lent.

Thank you. I had not known about that not fasting on Sunday. But I feel the need for penitential practice, and fasting one day a week seemed like a good idea. I work Mondays through Saturdays, and the hectic pace makes fasting difficult. Sunday is my slow pace day, ideal for fasting. I am 61 years old, and the book CATHOLICISM FOR DUMMIES mentioned that age 60 was the reuired upper limit. Required. I shall have to talk to a Priest about this, but for now fasting on Sundays fits my lifestyle.

And I have a lot of penace to do. (And you DON’T want to know the details.) And that is why I made a vow to observe ALL Fridays as days of abstinence.

Oh, those weekdays of Lent. Was that fasting, abstinence, or both?

Question: Does that fasting during Lent apply to Sundays?

My understanding is that Sundays are considered to be outside of Lent, and your Lenten fast can be suspended. I think if you count the days from Ash Wednesday to Easter, excluding Sundays, it comes out to forty days.

Thanks for the information. Now, does any of this stop me from fasting on ALL Sundays of the year as a form of penance?

Better to fast on Fridays…Sunday is a day of celebration a mini-Easter.

Well, as mentioned, Sunday would fit my lifestyle better, but if it has to be a day of the week, perhaps Thursdays or Saturdays? After all, I have committed myself to abstinence of Fridays.

And since Saturdays seem to be Mary’s day of the week, would she approve or disaaprove fasting on saturday, as a penance, especially since I have much to answer for?

I believe the Blessed Mother would be very pleased with a fast on her day. In fact, I would suggest you “give” to Mary the merits of your fasting so she may offer it to Jesus on your behalf.

Double Grace!!!

OK, glad to have THAT cleared up. I can start the weekly fast this saturday, when I fly back to Torrance from Seattle. Now I have an even better reason to avoid the food at the airports:D

Now a question about this “giving”. I was thinking of “giving” any merits to The Church Suffering, which seems to need a lot of it. Any problems with this?👍

My two week visit to my Mother is about over. Whilst it has been sad to see how Alzheimer’s is slowly rotting her brain 😦 I am grateful I am able to see her, to tell her how much I love her, and to thank her for all the good things she has done for me. I plan to return to Seattle next year, in September.

It has been an interesting week at catechismclass.com since every lesson has started with this…(I hope it is OK to copy this)

Hello, I’m Father J.D. Zatalava, founder of catechismclass.com. For the next several months I will be your tour guide on this fantastic digital journey through cyberspace. In this, the DISCIPLE PROGRAM, we will be exploring the faith of the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church, the one and only Church founded by Jesus Christ, himself. Jesus founded his one church upon the Rock of Peter. In the Bible Jesus said, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” [John 14:6] thus assuring all of mankind that no one (that’s NO ONE) gets to Heaven except by listening and doing what He (JESUS) tells them to do. Practically speaking pretty much the first thing he tells us to do is found in Matthew 16:17 Jesus said, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father. 18 And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon THIS rock I will build MY church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it. 19 I will give YOU the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” Some will say “that was then, this is now.” Jesus addresses the “now” in chapter 28 of the same Gospel when He says: 18 Then Jesus approached and said to them (the first Catholic Bishops), “All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go, therefore, and make disciples of ALL nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe ALL that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.”

Classes ended with a request to pray five decades of the rosary, if you had time. I did. Today he also wanted us to pray the rosary. But this time the words were to be that of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy. Since I am going to need all the mercy I can get, this was no problem. All in all, a great week of RCIA:thumbsup:

👍 Blessings to you!

Keep up the good work. 🙂 It sounds like the Holy Spirit is working within you.

May the Holy Spirit grant you the Spirit of right judgement in all things and to rejoice in His Holy comfort.

Yours in Christ,
Sorrows

Glad to hear the catechism class is working out. This is a good avenue for those who are not in parishes or dioceses which teach authentic catechism, instead of “my butterfly and me” kind of stuff.
