Floods everywhere, fires burning like crazy, Tsunamis, earthquakes, hurricanes, war, hunger, etc…does anyone here truly believe the end is near? Is this what Matthew:24 means, what is happening today?
It says in the bible that these things are to come. It also says there will be mother against daughter, Father against son, in other words, family killing family. That too is happening more frequently.

Is it me? Or do I notice what is happening all around us, as devastation with the Lord’s Coming.

There is certainly a great proliferation of natural disasters…the momentum has increased for sure. But who knows if this is a warning.

The greatest warning to worry about is Iran…this could certainly lead to disaster of untold proportions. But Jesus also told of us war upon war…but this seems to be increasing exponentuially also.

In one way, it is devastating. But people lived through WW2 which was really bad and they must have thought of the end also, which was the end for many of them. They did not have the media that we have where every bomb is shown and every tsunami is pasted all over the papers, and such.

All I know is what I have read in the church approved apparitions, and especially Divine Mercy where it says that Jesus was preparing the end of the world with a Polish Pope, who at the time was unthinkable since we had Italian Popes on the whole. And then guess what? John Paul 2 comes into the picture and St Fauistina, both from Poland. She said also that it was her sacrifices that ehld God’s hand against punishing the world for its atrocities…

We must pray and be ready…

IMO, as a student of history, this type of thing has always happened - there are inumerable exaples of cruelty, both in and outside of families, as well as natural disasters. The thing is, there were fewer people, they were very spread out and there was no modern means of communication. Now we know everything instantly! As a result it can look like things are worse than they’ve ever been. But again, if you look back at any period in pretty much any civilization, you’ll find people were just as horrible and nature just as deadly as in the present. Unfortunately, this suggest we haven’t come very far, humanely speaking, from our earliest days, but that’s another issue altogether.

Well, I’ve gotta tell ya …

And I’m still dripping wet, having just gotten back inside the apartment.

Tonight is the first time I can ever remember taking sunset photos in the pouring rain. A sun-shower was in full swing, the sky glowing with a reddish hue, reflecting off the pond. Which means if they turn out, I just got some of the most unusual natural shots of rose-colored sunset water complete with falling raindrops, bubbles, and circular water-ring patterns created by the raindrops.

Things are getting unusual for sure.

Happens all the time down in Florida 😉

Anyway, what do you think people thought about the eruption of Krakatoa? Or the “little ice age”? The Romans thought Vesuvius heralded the end of the world.

No one’s going to be able to predict the end of the world. When it happens, it happens.

No, I do not believe these are heralds of the “end times”. Christ said no one would know the day or hour.

What we have now is more news coverage.

We have about 300 cable channels looking to fill up air time and a whole channel dedicated to nothing but weather. Movies like “Twister” glamorize weather chasing.

Satellite, fast air travel, the need for ratings, and the sensational nature of today’s broadcast journalism looking for a tragedy to put on the lead story all combine to give us coverage of every rain drop that falls or tree that blows down coming across our screen 24/7.

Some of these issues are more man made than acts of nature alone. For example, we build levees so that we can claim more farmland and live closer to the water. Yes, they force the river to saty in its banks, but the flood flow is natural. If one breaks, the water is then trapped on the wrong side of the river, causing more damage. The Egyptians used the flood of the Nile as part of their cycle. We try to force the Mississippi to run our way.

I am neither gloom or doom, but every day I wake to the news, there are floods and devastation in almost every country. Last week China, then Japan, now this morning, the Phillipines. I feel that the end is being planned out, and please, it isn’t 'Global Warming". Just because some scientist wakes up one morning, looks outside and says to himself, “I can’t find a name for this one, I’ll call it el nino”.

In my opinion the frequency of natural disasters has not changed. The population however has grown, this means more people are affected by the disasters.

That isn’t true. So all hurricanes, tornadoes and floods are all due to the fact there is more population? 🤷

I, for one, definitely think we are near the end. But then again, I could be wrong.

I cant remember where i read it at,it might have been spiritdaily.com but they have been keepng track of natural disasters since the 60’s, every 10 yrs it seems to be getting worse

No that is NOT what was written. Go back a re-read.

What the poster said was that more people will feel the effects of natural disaster then ever before. There are simply more people in the world then at any other time in history.

The same magnitude earthquake can hit in China - but the China of today has a denser population which may feel the devastating effects.

I am not convinced that the incidence of natural disasters is greater today than in years past.

I am convinced that, due to global media and world-wide electronic communication, that we hear about them more often.

This is a Jehovah Witness talking point. It’s NOT that these things are on the rise…they aren’t. HOWEVER with a 24 hour news cycle and instant world-wide communication we hear about it more.

Well, what about Matthew 24? Are we to ignore this? Sounds just like today if you ask me.

The point is that it sounds just like every period in history, not just this one.
I think it sounds more like today. We never had any school shootings before 1968 (and I believe it was due to taking prayer out of the schools). Never had this many abortions, never had same sex marriage legalized, never had so many murders, mothers killing their babies, killing this one and that one. Never had so many catastrophes, no Katrina, no Tsunami, No REAL unusual floods in the past. No beheadings that were allowed on the internet, no Darfur devastation I could go on and on. THESE DAYS ARE DIFFERENT FROM THE PAST. Look around and I believe AS A CATHOLIC that these days are truly numbered. I am not like a JW who predict the day AND the hour, Jesus said we wouldn’t know when he is to come.

Yes it does sound just like every period in history and that is why history is full of people who predicted the end of the world …

Even some of the splintered christian churches [and some marginally so] were started by individuals who read scriptures [mostle revelation and daniel] to predict the ‘end times’ had arrived … some even predicting [wrongly of course] the actual date of the second coming …

catholics are not christians who subscribe to the ‘pre-trib’ theology as put forth by hal lindsey [the late great plent earth] and the “left behind” series of books and movies … they might make for interesting reading [viewing?] but they belong to the fiction genre right next to the ‘da vinci code’ and ‘angles and demons’ … pure fantasy IMHO not to be confused with true, authentic christian theology …

oh yes, i agree with the “24 hours news cycle” and instantaneous ability to communicate around the globe … it fuels the fires …

My wife and I have been discussing this for many years. It does seem to be the case, but we just don’t know for sure so we live like it is the last days.
