Has Anyone Noticed The Catastrophes In The World Today?

The earthquake here is fairly unremarkable. Less then twenty people died (R.I.P) and that kind of quake occurs every couple of years. More people die by suicide, or car accidents every year here then earthquakes. The rest of the time there are plenty of minor quakes, so unless Tokyo gets leveled (please God no) I wouldnt really put much thought into predicting things by earthquakes here.

Now if the next pope, after my beloved B16 who I hope lives for many years in good health, is named Peter the Roman I will up my confession from once a month to once a week! Why well it may just be that the prophecy of St Malachy is correct.

Why is that significant ? Maybe desegregation is the cause of various woes in the latest 1960s - there is no way to be sure this is not the case. **If one is not aware that a flood has drowned a million people, the flood has happened, but will mean nothing to one who knows nothing of it. So someone unaware of it will not include it in his list of catastrophes. So he will be a catastrophe short when totting up the signs of the end. ****Your case OTOH depends on possessing knowledge our great-grandparents would not have had; so the state of the world may look far worse to us than to them, even if it is not worse in reality. Which is why it is so unwise of us to assume that there is some proportion between what we know of the world, & its state in God’s eyes. And why should only the newsworthy stuff be important ? How about the unreported sins we commit each day ? We may not remember them; that does not make them less truly sinful. **​

Never had this many abortions, never had same sex marriage legalized, never had so many murders, mothers killing their babies, killing this one and that one.

A lot of sins need modern technology - without the power & technology to gas millions of Jews, genocide on a huge scale may be intended, but can’t be carried out. Happily for most of us, we lack the means to carry out all the evils we are capable of.​

**Of course not - there were once plenty of real beheadings to go to, for free. Not just beheadings either, but (depending where & when one lived) burnings, impalings, hangings, boilings alive, disembowellings, hangings in chains, executions by elephant, croppings of ears, cuttings out of tongues, blindings, & similar “delights”. Seeing someone being disembowelled alive or broken on the wheel must have been far more gripping than any barbarity on TV. Especially if the executioner was clumsy. **​

Every age has been cruel by some standards - our own is merely cruel in different ways - often by neglect. Or, people justify ab****ortion just as they used to justify crucifixion, executing Christians or atheists, or lobotomising “the unfit”. It does not follow that those who justify abortion or partial-birth abortion :eek: are themselves evil.
THESE DAYS ARE DIFFERENT FROM THE PAST. Look around and I believe AS A CATHOLIC that these days are truly numbered. I am not like a JW who predict the day AND the hour, Jesus said we wouldn’t know when he is to come.

I’m sure huge natural disasters are recorded… even ones 100 years ago. It should be easy enough to look at the info we have and see if there is an increase or not.

These lists of disasters are not complete. For example, there is not mention of the 1908 comet impact event in Tunguska Siberia which killed several people and flattened thousands of square miles of forest…

I stand by what I said earlier. We live in a age of nearly instant worldwide communication. In addition, populations is more dense. So more of these natural disasters are reported worldwide than before. A hundred years ago, the earthquake in China would have gone unknown in the Europe and the Americas.

It says in the bible that these things are to come. It also says there will be mother against daughter, Father against son, in other words, family killing family. That too is happening more frequently.

Is it me? Or do I notice what is happening all around us, as devastation with the Lord’s Coming.

And I notice also how much the enemy had done to make people fall into disobedience to God’s commandments. He seem had no difficulty in getting people disobey the 10th down to the 5th commandments. Now he seem working consistently with the 4th (Honor your father and mother) in the disguise of equality to promote a genderless society, the passing of same-sex marriage laws, the closures of Catholic adoption agencies, human cloning. He has a way to get people hooked to forget the 3rd commandment (Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy). We got plenty of awesome entertainments and toys! You name it, we have it! And on the 2nd commandment? “Thou shalt not make wrongful use of the name of thy God”. And what is the enemy doing? He actually started that in some of our schools! He first had all references of God removed from the classrooms. No ten commandments hanging on walls. No crucifixes. No mention of godliness. No personal religious devotions or practices allowed. Period. Then the last one to deal with- actually the 1st of the commandments. “I am the Lord thy God. Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Thou shalt not make for thyself an idol “. Well, if he can make sufficient number of people to commit against the nine commandments they can initiate the final push to go against the 1st.
And then the son of perdition will be revealed…the ultimate look-a-like… the ultimate fake!

Here’s what the catechism says…The Church ultimate trial…

675 Before Christ’s second coming the Church must pass through a final trial that will shake the faith of many believers. The persecution that accompanies her pilgrimage on earth will unveil the “ mystery of iniquity” in the form of religious deception offering men an apparent solution to their problems at the price of apostasy from the truth. Could it be that the present god being worshipped, even within churches, is the New Age that is infiltrating EVERYTHING!

Someone’s done a lot of work to get all that together.​

Why should disasters be measured by big numbers only ? Mere numbers do not make a disaster - that something is bad, or evil or a disaster, is a value judgement, & numbers don’t give value judgements - for a single man to commit suicide may be a disaster for that person’s family - for a single tyrant to do so, may be regarded by his victims as well-deserved disgrace for him, & great relief (not disaster) for them. Materially, the two deaths may be identical. So what counts as disaster depends on where one stands - it’s not a discrete & well-defined category. So counting & interpreting disasters is highly artificial & subjective.

That a country is ravaged by disease (say) is only a disaster if it is inconvenient. In time of war, plague & famine are excellent means of weakening one of the combatants - from the POV of the unaffected country, that is. In those circumstances, & especially if the unaffected combatant is small and weak, the severer the plague & famine in the other, the better. Far from being disastrous, such events can be seen as a very good thing indeed -from one POV at least. The deaths of the Assyrians besieging Jerusalem may have been a disaster for the plans of their kings; it was a blessing from the POV of the Jews. And “good” things can themselves lead to things that are not; they may be good, yet have results that are not.

If events had just one set of values & were unambiguously good or bad, disaster could be counted with relative ease (all things being equal, of course). But they don’t, & they aren’t - so they can’t be counted, & cannot be used as indices of the nearness of the Second Coming. :cool:

The worlds weather patterns are certainly going crazy…
Here in Sydney, last summer, we only had about 2-3 days over 30 degrees (celsius). Now that is unheard of, each summer, we get a load more than that (not that im complaining, as i cant stand the heat) but it is weird the weather we are getting here as well

What you say is true…the graphs just portray the natural disasters of the world. And the first graph shows that very well, there are more occurring in a 25-year period. Of course we have so many other disasters to contend with. Like wars, genocide, etc etc etc
