Has anyone seen the new dinesh dsouza movie?

Dinesh claims that Obama is ruining America with bad politics and then goes and commits campaign fraud. He says that atheists don’t want to abide by christian teachings because there are too many sexual prohibitions (adultery being one that he mentions by name), then cheats on his fiance.

Normally, I couldn’t care less if he’s going to prison for campaign fraud or cheats on his fiance with someone else’s spouse. But when he tries to claim the moral high ground and point out those flaws in others, it just makes him look like a hypocrite. It doesn’t seem like his christian morals are really making him a better person. They’re just another stone to cast.

I believe he was pointing out history as it really was from Alexander to Obama; And as Jesus said he who is without sin cast the first stone.

As a professional historian, I believe that one of the best ways to look at a work of history is to look at its sources. Is the author truly analyzing history or just placing his own ideas on paper. Naturally, all historians eventually have to draw conclusions from the available sources, but it must start at a neutral position and follow where the sources lead.

I have not seen the works in question, but intend to. If the sources are good, I will respect the effort, even if I disagree with the conclusions. On the other hand, if any author of history begins with a conclusion and then cherry-picks the sources, or uses none at all, I have no respect for their work.
 
Will look forward to your opinion of the movie. Maybe you should start with the book first.

I was just looking at his book on suffering on Google Books. Naturally, it only allows for small portions of the book, but I can already say this. He has a pleasant writing style that is easy to follow. That should make this a pleasant exploration.

He has a pleasant way of speaking when narrating the movie also.

As a undergraduate student in history I totally agree with you.

My great uncle said this movie was good. I’m not skeptical about the film being good, but that the sources will be accurate.
 
Dshouza comes from India that has the caste system. A person is born into it and it stuck there for their whole lives. He likes America since people can become anything they want if they work hard to get there.

He can look at our country from an unbiased view as an outsider. I know everyone has biases but he wasn’t raised here so he missed the revisionist history some were subjected to in our schools when progressives took over. I really liked this movie as much as his first one.

He is taking a chance going against the current people in power. It seems many are being investigated, etc. just because their views go against those in power. Not something we as Americans are use to, at least not as blatant as it is now. Scary. Americans have always been able to have free speech and free thought. If we lose that we aren’t free anymore.

So, you don’t believe that D’Souza has the right to criticize Obama and other radical progressives because he has sinned? Every person has the right to speak, AND tell the truth, as D’Souza has. Implementation of your interpretation of Jesus’ words would paralyze the body politic from speaking out against evil of every kind. :ehh:

Dinesh has a right to criticize Obama, just like I have a right to criticize him. The weight of his criticism is diminished for me, though, due to the fact that he is willing to lie and break the law for his own ends.

From what I have read of the documentary itself, (and no I haven’t seen it yet - I’m waiting for it to wash up on Netflix in a few months) it sounds like a lot of speculation on the part of Dinesh. It’s a political piece, targeted to a specific demographic, telling them what they want to hear. It’s a right wing version of a Michael Moore film. These types of films don’t tend to carry much water.

Your criticisms are generic now, in contrast to your earlier ad hominem attack. Dinesh takes words right from the horses’ mouths, and he gives them plenty of rope with which to make their case, or in some instances, hang themselves. 🙂 Rob
 
Just got out of the theater. Fantastic movie!! It is really uplifting, but at the same time really shows the path we are headed down. This movie is a must see.
