The Church did not teach that anyone should abuse people.Not true. Even if someone was put into a “temporary” slavery to pay off some debt, they were still subject to inhumane treatment (“only” to be beaten as long as the beating was not lethal) and their children were subject to be sold off by the whim of the “owner”. Also there was a lot of non-chattel type of slavery, too.
Not one bit. It is pointing out that no society gets it right. Some are better some are worse. That is not relative it is a fact.That is “relative” morality at its best.![]()
Thant is not moral relativism. You cannot simply redefine terms to make your case.The “relative” morality is included in the teaching that all the three attributes must be taken into consideration: 1) the intent, 2) the action and 3) the outcome.
