Have you ever been a victim of a demonic attack?

Sorry to say that I was a victim once. I was at BYU dabbling in Mormonism. It was night and I was in my bed and my roommate was in her bed. I woke up and there was a horrible pressure on my chest, unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. It wasn’t a pain, but an actual pushing down on me. I tried to call out my roommate’s name who I could see over in her bed but I was powerless. In my mind, I screamed out “In the name of Jesus Christ, the Son of the living God, be gone, Satan” because I knew that was what it was. I was released immediately and shaken to the core. I was fully aware during this event and know that it wasn’t a dream. Sad to say, it took me many months (until I saw John Paul II in Philadelphia on tv) before I went to confession and received absolution for denying my faith.

i have from time to time had very negative thoughts about myself and others. i have noticed that when i pray i do feel a lot better, and the thoughts go away.
as i said in another post: i have a friend who saw a demon once. the demon was trying to get my friend to follow him, but luckily he ran in the opposite direction.

Oh my God, so interesting!! Tell more on this? I too get the "negative/depressing thoughts, and even about sins already confessed I am reminded of them. My friend told me that the way demons oppress us is: they "stand or sit on our sholuders(that’s how they whisper suggestions), maybe that’s why yesterday, as I was praing the Rosary, I felt an aleve, as if all the negativity and just feelings of being weighed down left.

For those here who know about all this: can you all please say a prayer/s of deliverance/liberation for me? My name is misericordie.

Thanks

Yes, now I do where they would accuse me of past sins that I went to confession for. Also, being that in my past I lead a very sinful life, they don’t like to loose souls, so I can feel them OPPRESSING me with negativity on some days, or unexplained sadness at times, etc. One example is that today during the whole day, I was feeling down and out, all a weird day, and tonight when I knelt and prayed the Rosary, while meditating on the mysteries, I LITERALLY FELT A WEIGHT LIFTED OFF MY SHOULDERS, I FELT SO LIGHT. AS IF THE WHOLE DAY THIS WEIGHT WAS ON ME, AND SUDDENDLY LET GO. DEAR GOD, DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT WAS THIS??? IF SO, PLEASE TELL ME WHAT YOU HONESTLY THINK?
Hi Misericordie:

Here’s something very interesting that I just discovered on the web:

From St. Isaac of Nineveh: serious words for those serious and despairing moments that sometimes occur.

"Let us not be troubled when it befalls us to be plunged into darkness, especially if we are not responsible for it. You must realize that this darkness enshrouding you has been given you by God’s providence for reasons known to Him alone. Sometimes indeed our soul is engulfed by the waves and drowned. Whether we give ourselves to the reading of Scripture or to prayer, whatever we do we are increasingly imprisoned in darkness…it is an hour filled with despair and fear. The soul is utterly deprived of hope in God and the consolation of faith. It is entirely filled with perplexity and anguish. But those who have been tested by the distress of such an hour know that in the end it is followed by a change. God never leaves the soul for a whole day in such a state, for then hope would be destroyed…rather He allows it to emerge very soon from the darkness. Blessed is he who endures such temptations. For, as the Fathers say, great will be the stability and the strength to which he will come after that. However, it is not in one hour or at one stroke that such a combat is concluded. Nor is it at one moment, but gradually, that grace comes to take up indwelling completely in the soul. After grace, the trial returns. There is a time for trial. And there is a time for consolation."

I discovered St. Isaac of Syria only recently and find him fascinating. If you run a Google you can find out about him. It would seem from what he says that you might be wrong about the source of those moods of yours. What he says is certainly encouraging.

I think that if you were to say you have never been a victim of a demonic attack, you would be right where the devil wants you.

I think the most effective and dangerous demonic attacks are the ones that occur in our heads every day of our lives. The negatives we think about ourselves and others. I personally feel like I’ve fought a battle with him everyday of my life. The reason this type of attack is so dangerous and effective is because… (I’ll use myself for an example) -up until just recently, I didn’t realize I was fighting a battle with anyone. I thought these negative thoughts going through my head all of the time were my own! The devil has the power to put thoughts into our heads.
Hi Beverly:

Yes, you’re right.

I’m presently reading a book in which the author discusses various “illnesses of the heart,” one of which he attributes to what he calls “putrid thoughts.” These are thoughts of a special quality and intensity, have enormous power, are sent by the devil, and penetrate so deeply they end up as obsessions that poison a person’s whole existence.

The book is by Kyriacos C. MARKIDES and is called THE MOUNTAIN OF SILENCE: A Search for Orthodox Spirituality (New York: Doubleday Image Book, 2001. ISBN 0-385-50092-0). You’ll find some good reviews at Amazon page:

amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0385500920/qid%3D1114190601/sr%3D11-1/ref%3Dsr%5F11%5F1/103-7263732-1539835

I think temptation is an attack by a demon. They want you to sin and temptation is there attack. Now, someone may be in physical battles with demons, and I am not one of them. But I think everybody has been attacked by demons one way or another.

The devil tries so hard in everything he does to block Gods will for us. You can count on the fact that if you have something important to do for God, you will encounter the evil one all the more strongly.

here’s an example… I spent some time with victims of eating disorders in a hospital several years back. At the very core of their fight with this ‘disease’ was negativity, self hatred, just a skewed view of oneself that isn’t true. These people all had two things in common. 1. They all have been told lies about themselves, by (in** their** mind) “themselves” but in actuality the devil. 2. They all, every single last one of the girls in this program, had thee biggest heart, and were the most caring, loving, do anything for anyone people I had ever met.

Here is my point. These girls (because of #2) all had/have the potential to accomplish enormous things for Gods family. The devil realizes this, and does everything he can to take everything away from them, their focus, their strength, their faith in God, their will to live. I believe this to be the common denominator in eating disorders. Disorders that are now being treated with drugs, that might very well be better treated with spiritual warfare against the devil.

Hi Misericordie:

Thank you. He really is wonderful, but the books that have been devoted to his sayings and writings aren’t so easy to find. And he also appears under different names:

SAINT ISAAC OF SYRIA.
ST. ISAAC THE SYRIAN.
ISAAC THE SYRIAN.
ISAAC OF NINEVEH, etc.

You’ll have to check all the variants. So far as I can gather, there is only one book in print about him at the moment:

THE SPIRITUAL WORLD OF ISAAC THE SYRIAN by Hilarion Alfayev.

It gives a lot of extracts from his work and you’ll find it at Cistercian Press:

Keep your chin up!

Very interesting example. Thank you. And you’re dead right about treatment. Spiritual illnesses require spiritual remedies, and not these very unmagical pills that are being pushed and which don’t seem to help anyone.

I will pray for you misericordie. You have on your profile that you are a religion teacher. How wonderful of a thing is that to do! I think the most important people in this world are teachers, and YOU are a teacher of the most valuable subject there is. God bless you, and keep praying.

🙂 Thank you for your sweet words. Please pray for me, there was nothing I loved more than TEACHING. However, my School went through much problems, and conflict of interests between the pastor, the teachers, and the diocese, of which I was on the pastor’s team, and upon his resignation, I was left in the air.
Pray PLEASe that I get a job, I don’t ask God for ONLY a teaching one, but one in which I can LIVE decently with, and with benefits.
Thank you so so much, sincerely, misericordie.

IN GENERAL:

The Rosary is powerful!

Blessed water at home!

The devil fears the cross, so when one cross oneself often, the devil has to give in.

A blessed crusifix over the frontdoor may help.

Sceduled time (like ThornGenX talked about) for stopping temptations works fine.

The Jesus prayer: “Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me, a sinner”.

The prayer : "Jesus I trust in you! (Given to st. Fausinia)!
faustina.ch/index_en.htm

Prayer to St Michael: "St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in our day of battle; protect us against the deceit and wickedness of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray.

And you, O prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God banish into hell Satan and all of the evil spirits who roam through the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen."

You can light a light for a prayer and you can pray for others:
oswc.org/VotiveChapel2/

Ignoring him! Remember that he is proud, so he don’t like to be ignored, but if we cross ourselves and continues what we are doing, he slowly will lose power.

Have a little box like the one Catholic Exchange sells at their prayerintentionpage: The something for Jesus to do box" (can alo be homemade of a small box for matches were one paste a picture of Jesus at the tpo of the box). The idea is that one gives Jesus the sorrows and sufferings in a concrete way. If the ploblem is sadness, write sad with small tiny letters on a small piece of paper, put in in the box and ask Jesus to take care of it care it for you.

One very good prayerpage at a Pdf-file:
prayingeachday.org/100Prayers.pdf

(The same prayer at HTML - 216.239.59.104/search?q=cache:cjkBA7ZiZvwJ:www.prayingeachday.org/100Prayers.pdf+100+prayers&hl=no )

The Holy Eucarist

Regular confessions.

Yes…before I was Catholic I did Exorcisms for Protestants/agnostics.Many times when I would try and help them I would my self come under attack. This has happens in differant ways…from haveing things hurled at me,to just a “very depressed feeling”.Most malignant spirits I seen seemed to be attached to a Place as opposed to a person(about 99.9 of my cases)but the 2 cases I seen over my 15 years where the sprits were actualy INSIDE the person were the worst, and very difficult to expell
