My deepest sympathies. I cannot imagine the horror of losing one’s free will (which is the inevitable outcome of knowing that God exists). Being a robot must be terrible.

I do wish to thank you for not sharing your evidence. Imagine being responsible for destroying the free will of the entire world.
In what way do you have free will? You are restricted by gravity, time, space, your genes, your experiences, the people who surround you, the weather, the era you were born in, your health or lack thereof, your lifespain. How do you exercise your free will?

It is true that to a certain extent we all have free will. We can choose to believe or not to believe. I have freely chosen to believe. You have chosen not to. Beyond that we are both restricted by all the things that I mentioned above.

In what way do you have free will?
It’s fundamental Catholic doctrine that everyone has free will except for those that know for a fact that god exists. It is generally offered as the main reason why evil is allowed to exist.

What does having free will mean? Darn if I know but it’s supposed to be really bad if you don’t have it.

anything that affected your faith?
Yes. Don’t talk about it much after I found out that spiritual counselors are the last to believe that anyone had a “spiritual” experience, or supernatural. Didn’t find much any where that really addressed the thing. I have since, but they are either non-Catholic, or Catholics who are spot-on with it and questioned by main line believers. Sorry, don’t think main line believers have the chops to say yea, nay, or what. We’ll leave it at that.

Yes, every time I participate at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. The Catholic Eucharist is definitely “supernatural” considering it is the Real Presence of Jesus Christ.

The Eucharist, definitely. A miracle happens every day in our parishes.

A couple of other singular events that I consider miracles in response to prayer, that weren’t explicable or were far beyond what the statistics (with which I am all too familiar) said were likely in those cases. I still feel the after-effects of those events every day.

Absolutely, and I’m sure it will happen again in the future.

If an NDE is “supernatural” then yes. Totally changed my perceptin of what being human is, totally chnaged my perspective on faith. Totally. if an NDE or OBE isn’t supernatural, maybe because so many people have them, then no.

anything that affected your faith?
Two members sent to me their experiences.
They were truly moving.
The gentleness of God, the sudden change of events, the inner PEACE it gave to them was a sign that God appears when He wants, How He wants…
The gentle approach of the 2 members, their humble behavior and their appreciation and reflection on what happened to them humbled me. I never had such experiences.

But I like to hear them. If anyone has any experience that wants to tell me, thank you very much.

I tell a story a friend of mine told me. She was a child and she was a refugee of the Japanese invasion of Hong-Kong. She took refuge in Macao and one night she was in the stairs of St. Augustin Church, enjoying the summer breeze. All of a sudden, she saw a staircase of light going up to heaven and a friend of her, a child, going up til disappeared. Next day, she knew her friend was sick at the hospital and had died that night.

Another one which is moving to me. I was in the Far East in a remote village, where you reach by horse after 8 hours of riding. A priest was dining with me and told me the story of the day he want to a remote of a remote place to see the faithful. He entered a hut and gave communion to a poor sick person. all of a sudden the hut was filled with light. He was a down to earth person. He did not tell me that he had visions everyday. Actually, that was theonly one he told me. Moving…

A couple people have PM’ed me experiences they’ve had. Thank you :)–I shall have to reflect on them further.

More experiences came into my PM. Thanks a lot. It is a sobering fact that The Mighty God reaches the humble human person and touches him/her with his embrace.

I myself, never had any such experience. On the contrary, I am in a total dark night. That is why I love to hear people talking about them. Moreover because all seem so genuine.

Now I listened to NDE, so I am reporting not the ones I Heard here in this Forum but some years ago.

My late father-in-law used to say the story when he was half dead. He was an agricultural person with 4 years of school. No mass, no mysticism. But he was more christian in his values than myself, who go to mass.

He said that he heard songs that no human ear could ever have heard. A great procession of people was going through a valley, everybody singing. All who were working (agriculture) left their tools and joined the procession singing. The atmosphere was of a great joy and happiness. He said a sentence that i will never forget (and that was quote by the priest, who heard the same story, at his funeral): “If death is like that, no one should be afraid to die!”.

Boy, after recuperation, I never saw someone who was so much afraid of death. Nevertheless, when recounting the story, he repeated: “If death is like that, no one should be afraid of death!”

Another was more prosaic, from a friend we do not get along with anymore (she is friend to no one but herself !!). When she was driven from the operation, she saw everything from the ceiling, she described it very well. The details, I forget as for years I have not talked to her. But one little detail puzzled me. When talking to her doctor, she told this vision, and the doctor did not believe. So, she said, pointing to a cupboard: “Over the top of the pice of furniture, there is a white rubber!”. The doctor went to see there it was the white rubber. The doctor kept silent and changed subject.

God Bless you all.

It *is *an embrace; my experience informed me that what we think we are is completely a construct. What we actuallly are is ineffably indescribable!

By what light do you see that you are in a “total” dark night? 🙂

What a beautiful story! Thanks!

Lovely!

Yes, I’ve heard many similar stories. My favorite one is of a lady who was delayed from her work by a serious accident. She saw people all around her fuming and angry at the delay. her own mind went to feelings of love and hope for whoever was involved in the wreck.

Many months later, there was someone at her door, a lady with a bouquet of flowers. Puzzled she asked what she wanted; no one there has ordered flowers. The lady at the door said “They are a gift for you. I was in a serious automobile accident that nearly took my life. While my body was being extricated from the mess, I myself was above the scene, watching the whole thing. I was overwhelmed by the sea of anger around me, but was attracted to one vehicle a ways back. There was a great feeling of love and compassion emanating from that car. I went to it and memorized the license plate. It took a while, but I found you. It was your car. Thank you for your love!”

God Bless you all.God cannot do otherwise; we can only choose to blind ourselves to the continuous overeffulb=gent blessing!

Yes. I have had at least two experiences that I am convinced were supernatural and another that I am still unsure of. I have found one possible source of natural explanation, but I’m relatively sure that I had no contact with it at the time of the occurence.

At the time of the first two, I was not a Christian. The first one I now believe was either an apparition of a soul in purgatory or, possibly but hopefully not, Hell. The second was an OBE with “shamanic” overtones (I was delving into that kind of thing at the time), though I now believe the forces involved in such things are demonic.

I’d be glad to elaborate on these two as well as the third by PM if you wish.

Were you the poster who had a then-deceased Presbyterian pastor drop by saying that he was in purgatory…?

At any rate, feel free to PM me everything you’ve got.

Thanks for your insights.
I guess you see the dark night through the light of God. Otherwise, you would never see it was dark, You would think that dark was light.

One more story. One lady in Hong Kong who was from Macao’s families, she was “granny” as we would call her.
Now, in Hong-kong there are plenty of robberies. when i was there, I think the average was a bank assault a day.
Once, she was alone at home and somebody rang the bell. She opened the door and saw a young man who started to tremble. Over and over she asked what did he want and he just stuttered: “That man over there” pointing to the back of granny. Though she knew there was no one inside, she turned back and saw no one and when she turned to see the man, he was running down the stairs 2 by 3, completely terrified…
The story goes in the family that was granny’s guardian angel, of which she was very fond and to whom she had great devotion. They did not understand what happened nor they tried to find and explanation. They settled with the guardian angels and period.
As I heard the story, there was a slight tone of emotion that moved me…
