Have you ever seen Jesus Christ Superstar? What did you think?

I’m not that old. I’d rather be seeing Ian Gillan or Murray Head…the 70s versions of each, to be clear

Gethsemane is one of my favorite songs to rock out to in the car.

That said, JCS isn’t nearly as fun, entertaining, or theologically near-base as Godspell.

But I’m biased for selfish reasons. I got to know my wife in a college production of it, and the cast decided we would get married. Four years later, we two platonic friends finally started dating. A year later, we saw the “almost midnight” showing of the Broadway revival on New Years Eve, after which I asked her to marry me in Times Square. The two of us have been cast in technically non-union productions twice since then (I had the pleasure of playing Jesus the second and third times). The second time, she became with child with our first, and the third time was at a “big stage” with a retractable roof. Happy memories, and now I’ve got most of Matthew memorized. 😁

…and here’s Herod!
I’m dying laughing…
Not sure I should be watching the part with the dancing girls

I love this story ❤️🙂
I actually like Godspell more. My parents let me watch it as a child, but JCS was a little too controversial so I never saw it until I was a teenager

I decided to watch part 2 of Jesus of Nazareth instead. I guess musicals aren’t my bag.

I’ve never gotten this far before. This seems like a very Catholic movie (I just saw the scene of Peter’s profession of faith. I didn’t think they would include the “You are the rock… and on this rock…” part).

Amazing staging for the crucifxion scene.
I was holding my breath.
I think they did a fine job

IMO, the production was too contemporary for my taste, but I loved the lady who played Mary Magdalene, and the song, “I Don’t Know How To Love Him.”

Just finished watching the NBC version. I hope that it is available on VOD because I want to watch it again.

Alice Cooper was perfect as Herod!!

We have The Greatest Story Ever Told on atm
