Have you ever walked out on a movie?

…or rented a movie and shut it off only after about 20 minutes of trying to see if it would improve? We have! lol I thought I’d start a thread to hear of those movies that you thought were so horrible or boring, that you just couldn’t sit through it. It will be interesting if I happened to love those movies, however.😛 😃

Here are a few of mine:

1)Three Can Play That Game (LOVED Two Can Play that Game but this one was terrible…the main character was trying to be passed off as 28, and she is in her 40’s…in addition to poor humor, and trying to force something, it stunk)
  1. Little Children–way weird!
  2. March of the Penguins–yes, it was good from a ‘I now know a lot about penguins’ stand point, but boring…I fell asleep…I think I was too tired to get up to shut it off…lol
  3. Anchorman–just not well done
I’ll have to think of some more!:hmmm:
 
The Usual Suspects in 1995. We walked out before the credits even finished running I think. The violence and language were just too much. I don’t remember if we were able to get our money back.

We shut one off half way through that was about a really stupid arms dealer who thought he was some kind of a philosopher. It should have been funny, but it was just really, really stupid.

I can picture the actor in my head, but I can’t think of his name. It was the most ponderously boring “action film” we’ve ever seen in our lives. I don’t remember the name of it, either.

(He was also in another film we watched that was about a bunch of hillbillies stealing cars. We saw that one to the end, but wouldn’t recommend it - it was also very boring, but kept seeming like it was going to get better.)
 
My wife (then my fiancee) and I walked out of The Devils of Loudon (1971). It was a truly decadent adoption of a story by Aldous Huxley directed by Ken Russell.
 
Bridget Jones Diary, I went with a relative I lasted about 20 minutes and met them at the mall.
 
Whoever said they walked out / quit watching Anchorman has problems. That is one of the funniest movies I’ve ever seen (and I’ve seen a lot of them)

I’ve never actually walked out on a movie before, but there was one I would have if it wasn’t for the fact that my former boss took a bunch of us to go see it and I rode with him so I didn’t have a car. That movie, was Freddy got Fingered. The worst movie ever made.
 
I once met a friend at a movie theater and after changing our original pick he suggested Kill Bill because it was supposed to be about ninjas or something. Somewhere around the anime scene with the blood splurting everywhere with a man raping the little girl I told my friend I’d see him later and got up and left.
 
Let’s see…I’m notorious for falling asleep during movies…

With DH (while we were dating) I fell asleep during the digitally remastered Star Wars. (…and I remember the exact part too…where Yoda was training Luke Skywalker to be a Jedi.).

I also fell asleep during the Matrix (2 times)

And I fell asleep during Lord of the Rings.🤷

As for objectionable films…I rented the “Postman always rings twice” expecting Lana Turner…I got Jack Nicholson instead.
So I turned it off.

Also wanted to see “Leaving Las Vegas” turned it off after about 5minutes.

I think if you got enough answers and knew and understood the person behind the answer, you’d find much of the response to be generational.

I love comedy. All the kids I know think the recent movie, “Napolean Dynamite” was hilarious. I turned it off after 20 minutes, it was stupid and that’s the nicest thing I can say.
The recent movie “Talledega Nights” with Will Ferrell was pure drivel I thought. I couldn’t get past 25 minutes. Others found it hilarious. (And I do enjoy NASCAR so it isn’t that I don’t understand racing)
However, if you got a bunch of teens or twenty somethings and showed them things from the past like the “Laugh In” program of the sixties, or much of the original Saturday Night Live stuff of the mid seventies, they’d look at you like you were crazy for finding that funny.
Taste’s change and what is high drama or a laugh riot to one generation, might be totally lame and boring to another.

I had never seen a James Bond film and don’t get into all that male fantasy, being a lady brought up with quite different sensibilities. Anyway, I was at a family get together and everyone wanted to go see Die Another Day. Everyone was enraptured except for me. I sat there and laughed, thinking it was meant to be camp, then I realized I was the only laughing. I wish I could have gotten up and walked out, but I had no where to go.

We’ve also rented a few films and watched only a few minutes before getting bored or finding it too violent. The 2nd Mission Impossible film was majorly boring–a couple of people ogling each other while racing along mountain roads isn’t my cup of tea. And the Rock’s movie Doom, based on a computer game, was just plain nasty.

There isn’t much that gets us into a movie theater these days. Certainly none of the Oscar winners of the last few years except Lord of the Rings. It’s like someone decided to empty all our sewers onto the screen and call it art. Blech!

I know exactly what you mean; I don’t like what passes for “comedy” these days. 😦

I do like action/adventure films, though, and I enjoyed the Mission Impossible series, in spite of its many flaws. I also like the Bourne series. :o
 
I agree with Mission Impossible 2, except it would up being almost a comedy to my mom and I. Were just about died laughing during the mountain climbing scene.
I’m sure I’ve turned off movies at home before, but none come to mind at the moment.
The only movie my family and I have ever walked out of ina theater was Sin City. I think we stayed for at least half the movie (I was going nuts my then, I was so bored). Finally we all just kind of looked at each other and had a silent agreement to leave.
I also agree with the post about Die Another Day, that was the worst James Bond movie. I do generally enjoy James Bond movies, but that one was just way out there. The last one that came out, Casino Royale was very good though, not so high tech.
 
Fargo - My wife & I left when the dude was being fed into a wood chipper. My father-in-law thought it was a great movie and scene after scene we thought, ‘well if we just hang in here…’

Johnny Mnemonic - It was such a long time ago but I went w/ my cousin and when the crazy Jesus freak came out we decided we weren’t going to sit through a mocking of our faith.

??? - My cousin and I rented a movie, don’t know the name of it, and I won’t even describe the scene but it was so offensive I considered taping over the rest of the movie and then returning it to Blockbuster.
 
I walked out of Untraceable. It wasn’t a high-tech…internet suspense like I thought it was going to be…It was more of a high tech Saw movie. I have no desire to see nasty, disgusting gore in my movies.

My brother wanted to rent that the other day, but I talked him out of it because I heard it was like the saw and hostel movies. He was trying to say it was supposed to be like Silence of the Lambs, but I highly doubt it. Silence of the Lambs, while extremely disturbing, was a good movie.
 
Sophie’s Choice.

DD was 18 months old, and when it came to the scene where Sophie allowed the death camp guard to take her daughter in the hope of preserving her son’s life, the little girl screamed, “MAAAAAAAAAAA-MEEEEEEEE” – and sounded just like my baby. I handed DH the car keys and walked the two mles home!
 
Yes, I walked out of “Blazing Saddles” when it got to the farts around the campfire…I’m not a “slapstick” humor kind of guy I guess.
 
Funny, I walked out on Blazing Saddles too. And I did it when I was 16; just the late end of the age the adolescent humor should appeal to. Strange thing, I like the movie more now than I did then. Probably doesn’t say anything good about me.
 
Umm, let’s see.

“Face Off” - too violent.
“Incredible Hulk” with Eric Bana - boring and just a nowhere script.
“Fahrenheit 9/11” - too much hate, distortions and cheap shots (got my money back!)
“Chicago” - musicals are not my cup of tea.
“Anchorman” - And no, Bataar, I do not have problems.
“Lady in the Water” - Just too slow.
