Have you ever walked out on a movie?

lol, I think all of my favourite movies have been listed.

Pulp fiction, Usual suspects, Apocalypse Now, Borat (greatest comedy of all time), Men in tights, Anchorman, James Bond… these movies define me! I’ve been watching some of these movies before I could even read (i.e James Bond, Men in tights not movies like Pulp fictions, my parents weren’t that bad :P).

ha, to each his own I guess.

If you mean the theatrical release—there was a huge crowd waiting for the next show when we left the theater. I shouted, “Save your money! Save yourselves!”

These days, when I catch a few minutes of Dune, it seems like something that should be on MST3K. 😛
 
We have been disappointed so often, that we have “pre-emptively” walked out. We just don’t go anymore.

Saves a lot of time and money.

[Years ago, I remember a movie that was so bad that everyone in the theater started chatting. EVERYONE. They just started standing up and visiting. With total strangers. The manager even turned up the lights a little. Bizarro.]
 
While I was dating my husband, I walked out on the Doors movie. Said I was going to the restroom and just couldn’t bring myself to walk back in the theater.

I would have walked out of I Am Legend, but couldn’t open my eyes to see where I was going.

Then there was the time we were going to see The Thirteenth Warrior. My husband picked it. I was going to get us a seat while he bought the popcorn. There was a theater with a number over the door so I went in and found a good spot that would suit us both. He didn’t show up and the movie was starting, so I went to the entrance to catch him on the way in. He still didn’t show up and the movie was progressing. I thought it was weird that a movie about sword fights and epic battles started in a modern city and kept waiting for the hero to go back in time. By the time I realized I was watching The Sixth Sense, I was hooked. I still haven’t seen that warrior movie.
 
It’s strange, but I actually liked Sophies Choise. Ok, very depressing, I’ll agree with that, but it was very well done. My mom refuses to see it.
The part where she lets them take her daughter, while very sad, is very realistic.

A bit off-topic, but I LOVED The Sixth Sense. M. Night’s got a new movie coming out this summer! Sugeee! 👍

My husband was the only one who stayed and to this day insists he liked it. A few months after the movie several relatives sent hime some Dune Activity Books!😃

I liked this movie also - although that particular scene still gives me nightmares… can’t even imagine…
 
I have to admit to actually sitting all the way through Borat - and I had extremely mixed feelings. The stuff that was funny was hysterical, the gross stuff I closed my eyes and stopped my ears.

As for being sued - c’mon, a guy walks up to you with a film crew in tow and starts shooting (not like he used hidden cameras or anything). You agree to allow the film to be shown (and none of them are denying that he asked and received permission) - if you’re stupid enough to give permission for film footage that would embarrass you to be shown, then you deserve no recourse.

I hate to admit this too…but I also thought some parts of Borat were gasping for air, tears rolling down your cheeks funny…I think what it was about that movie, is that I was not expecting it to be so outrageous…and blunt–it would be funny to see someone so outrageous in ‘real’ life, not just reel life.😃

But, that hotel room scene.:eek: Oh my–it was funny and gross at the same time–but really over the top!!! My husband was laughing and at the same time, looked at me and said…‘did you know what this was about before you rented it?’ 😊 I truly didn’t…I had no idea it was going to be so obnoxious! I wouldn’t watch it again though. lol
 
Walked out? Like from a theatre? No. Shut the movie off and refused to finish it? Yes. I did that with a movie my mom rented called “The Indian in the Cupboard”. I just didn’t like it.

I just did this with Juno. I think it counts as “walking out”!
 
Lately when I watch rental DVDs, I find some movies give me a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach and I have to turn them off to feel better. Maybe it’s my conscience…aren’t I lucky? :rolleyes:

The latest I can think of:

Prime with Meryl Streep and Uma Thurman.

Anchorman, and I’m a huge Will Ferrel fan too. I loved him in Elf, on SNL and yes, I’ll admit, even in Blades of Glory. Despite the hilarious “jazz flute” scene, Anchorman was more crass than funny and when he and the female lead started feuding, I just couldn’t take it anymore.

Do I have problems? Yeah, lots, but having to remember the second half of that movie, thankfully, isn’t one of them. 😃
 
yes WaterWorld, the movie that made us decide to boycot Kevin Costner for all time.

the one we turned off the other night was simply ghastly, DH watched it to the end and was seething with rage at its overt anti-Catholicism, because Clint Eastwood used to be his favorite. the one where Hilary Swank is a female boxer and he is her manager and wants to euthanize her after she gets her brains knocked out. This is coming from a man who owns the entire video collection of CE westerns and Dirty Harry.

I don’t think I’ve walked out on any film mainly because I don’t rent or go see movies I know I’m not going to like. I’d never go near any Jewish concentration camp movies. I can’t take them. I become physically ill. I get that horrible feeling in the pit of my stomach. I get overly empathetic when watching things like that. Nothing wrong with that but I do know my limits so I stay clear.

If you read up on the movies, what it’s about who is in it and pay attention to ratings you can save yourself the time waisted watching something you are not going to like. There’s some good sources out there. Our American Bishops have a decent rating system and explanation of movies also.

Does anyone use “on demand” we’ve been able to watch a lot of movies that came out these past few years that are really good.

Anyone see Martian Man? I liked it. I’m going off track 😊
 
Waterworld is what it took to get Costneritis out of your system? I was suspicious by ‘Dances With Wolves’…and then egad, ‘The Postman’ was the dealbreaker there. No Costner for me, please. Ever.

To the poster who walked out on ‘Johnny Mnemonic’ - I almost did too, but for a completely different reason, to wit, NERD RAAAAAAGE at the ridiculous miscasting, screenwriting, etc. 😛 On the other hand, I’m fairly glad I hung around, because Henry Rollins’ cameo as The Finn is pretty outstanding and some odd things the crew did ‘get right.’ I got the impression that while the director and producers, casters, etc weren’t particularly interested in what they were doing, some of the crew were indeed science fiction readers and really wanted to see Gibson’s work on the screen properly. Yeah, it’s pretty much a hot mess, but it had its moments.

Big Warning: They’re finally making a film out of Neuromancer, but it’s being done by some horrible straight-to-video hacks. Get this - they’ve already cast Hayden Christiansen, of all people, to play Case. Oh…no.

Let’s see, besides The Postman, I’ve walked out on a few, generally because they were just plain boring. Cripes, those few were so dull I can’t even remember the titles! 😛 They’re just sneaking around the edges of my conscious mind which is furiously trying to stomp those last smidgens of recollection, like the roaches they are…
 
I went with a friend to see Artificial Intelligence (AI) because he wanted to see it. It wasn’t on my list of want-to-sees, but I figured with Steven Spielberg directing it wouldn’t be too bad. I didn’t realize it was written by Stanley Kubrick (who I consider to be quite sexist and strange). I was very uncomfortable. There was a scene where the adoptive mom of the little AI boy (highly developed robut) takes him out to the woods and leaves him there like some people might take a cat they don’t want around. He had started to develop feelings and he was calling and calling for his “mom” and seemed so all alone. I broke out and sobbed. I heard other women doing the same. I told my friend that I didn’t know how much more I could take and he tried to calm me down. Lots of stuff happened after that that made me uncomfortable. Then there was this sort of “red light district” with a virtual stripper. I just said, “That’s it,” stood up and walked out. I went to the restroom for a while, then went to get some water to help me calm down. Spent about 15 min. in the lobby and carefully went back in. I actually didn’t go back to my seat until I looked at the screen for a few minutes and judged I could take it. My friend just thought I was sick! Well, I made it through the rest of the weirdness. But I wished afterwards I had just told my friend, “I’m going to go turn in my ticket and exchange it to see something different - meet you afterwards.” I think I didn’t know at the time this theater allows you to do exchanges if you really find the movie offensive.

Also, once when I was alone I walked out on Lost In Space. It was totally lame. I left within 20 min. and walked right into another theater to see “As Good As It Gets”, which I had already seen. I felt so, so much better seeing that again. That is practically my favorite movie.
 
I walked out of a movie once when we had taken my father-in-law
who was spending his vacation with us. It was a movie with
very explicit homosexual scenes and I was mortified, I could not
get out of there fast enough. The movie also had some banjo
playing since I do not want to even name it. Now I rely on
several sources before I go to a movie. It is very rare that I go
but I really like to see movies on the “Big” screen.

I remember that movie. I was much too young to see it in a theater, but one of the three networks (before cable TV!) showed it during prime time, to some controversy.

I was appalled.
