Head Covering During Mass

I was reading the posts on this thread and thought came to me.
I think that some women who were celebrating mass with the Pope would cover their heads in some form. I know I certainly would! Even women like Laura Bush, who I don’t think is Catholic, covers her head when meeting with the Pope.
I find it funny that women would cover their heads when meeting the Pope, but not feel comfortable to cover their heads when recieving Jesus in the Eucharist.
I think it’s a beautiful tradition that has been lost, and it’s sad that people have to be judgmental about it.
I wish there where more sincere, devoted, feminine women, who act like you around… I believe that if there was a revival of this truly Christian practise, the Church wouldn’t be in half the mess that she is in…Men want to act like women these days and women want to act like men, but God made us equal yet different for a purpose…Your comment is so spot on, if women can wear a headcoverings before the Pope, then they also need a bit of humility and Holy fear and learn to wear one before the Creator of the Universe…Lets things into perspective ladies!!!

Again I dont see any authoritative quote from you, until you do that you are showing me that this is just your interpretation on the matter, when God’s word and the fathers are crystal clear on the matter.
Crystal clear to you.

(Private messages telling me to wear a head covering will not push me in that direction. In fact, it might just do the opposite. So stop it)

So women that do not wear a head covering are not sincere, devoted or feminine?

Somehow I think my husband would get a kick out of what you just said. I am a stay at home mom, I home school, I attend Mass at least twice a week and I wear dresses or skirts 4 or 5 times a week. The only times I don’t look very much like a female is when I am working in the yard. I even wear skirts to ride my bike. I spent almost all afternoon yesterday looking for a bathing suit that covered enough. (Ladies, Sears has some that look like shorts and a tank top. 👍 And they are on sale.)

But you have decided that women that don’t wear head coverings are not sincere, devoted or feminine.

If the Pope or Bishops ever come out with a current ruling on head coverings, I will follow it.

Crystal clear to you.

chill out…you are taking what I said out of context, which I sent to everyone…its called a forum and a place to discuss things…I am entitled to my opinion and so are you…that how people grow learning of each other…

Update on my attempt to foward my query regarding head coverings for women:

It does not look good to get a definitive reply from the Vatican (no surprise there), regarding this issue.

So far, I am being told that head coverings are not required, but I have not been told why, nor have I received anything telling me/us why it is okay to ignore many Canons in the 1983 Code.

When/if I hear or receive more, I will post it here. If I do not hear anything further, then this issue will be a concluded topic for me.

Thank you. 🙂
:amen: and they don’t need to tell you WHY they saw fit to no longer require the practice - they’re not proclaiming new doctrine or dogma, after all. Or why they decided to abrogate (not ignore) so much of the 1917 Code with the 1983. Again, it may be canon law, but that’s not all doctrine or dogma, faith or morals either.

You sent private messages to everyone?

Just so I don’t take anything out of context and just in case everyone didn’t get these messages.
hi prayer warrior
something special will happen to your prayer life, if you pray with a headcovering…God hears obedient women’s prayers.
disobedient Catholic Women, even the muslims know it!

The first message is like those chain emails people send. If you do this, God will bless you tenfold. If you wear a head covering, God will hear your prayers. Funny it seems that He hears them now.

The second was calling me disobedient. Not a gentle nudge to wear a head covering, it was a great big push.

Its great to tell everyone your opinion, that’s what we do here on the forums. But sending private messages calling me disobedient is not what the forums are about.

I did send it to everyone…as for the disobedient quote, I appreciate it may sound like that…but wasnt my intention…point taken…

Oh my … no I didn’t get that message.

By the way, jtf, I DID cover my head for prayer for two whole long miserable weeks last year … NOTHING special happened, NOTHING, except some mild claustrophobia

Headcovering is not some magician’s trick guaranteed to tame any disobedient woman. For some it’s actually harmful, it becomes an exercise in vanity or pride. Or more simply another detail to distract them.

By the way - I’m not your wife nor daughter, I’m not required to be obedient to you in any way shape or form. I AM required to be obedient to my own father, my priests and bishops and the Pope. No-one else.

Now none of these illustrious personages has so much as hinted that it might possibly be desirable for me or any woman to cover, nor that I am in the slightest lacking in womanly obedience. And I fail to see what business my head or any woman’s head is of yours - apart from those of your own family.

1 Peter 3:7

Disobedience does hinder your prayers being answered, check out this scripture…So there maybe a correlation between headcoverings and prayers being answered…

You miss the point entirely. By your cruddy logic I should have had a flood of answers to my prayers while I WAS being obedient and covering my head. Instead there was no difference.

O good grief.

Of course the Lord hears all our prayers. Good fathers always listen to their children even if the child is disobedient. And our loving Father will send more help our way in most instances to bring us back to His way.

Ladies,
If the spirit urges you to cover do so. If not…well, I am sure you will listen if you are so urged. If the Church mandated and enforced the covering I imagine most all of you would obey. But at this point the Church is not doing so.

Friends,
this is not the “hill to die on”. Modesty starts in the heart, not necessarily on the head.

Be kind to one another.

And silence in answer to prayers when I am not wearing a head covering.

Sure I take your point, but does God answer our prayers if we are disobedient (or even un-loving to others) thats my precise point and the context of 1 Peter 3:7:

Husbands live considerately with your wives, bestowing honour on women as the weaker sex, since you are joint heirs of the grace of life, IN ORDER THAT PRAYERS MAY NOT BE HINDERED…
