I think on judgment day Christ is going to say, “What you did to the least of these, you did to me.” I try to live my life using that as my goal. I am so amazed by this class warfare thing. I’ve never run across it before but it is rearing its ugly head in this thread and others. I am amazed by how angry people can get. It’s one thing to be afraid that the federal government is going to take away one’s money and misuse it; it’s a completely different thing to refuse to help people in need.
This is not a discussion of whether or not to help those in need. There is no argument against our need to do that. The discussion is about how best to do that. unfortunately some here are blind to every option other than class warfare and forced wealth redistribution. Others of us would like to see personal choice allowing the money to go to those who need and deserve it.

So are you saying that it is more important to advance medicine in order to save more lives while at the same time a person like Pathia should die? Should Pathia die in order to save 100 lives?
Are you proposing that those situations are mutually exclusive? Money is available in the form of charity for those in desparate need. Prior to the government caused housing collapse and the resulting draw down in jobs, there were plenty of opportunities for people to get jobs. There are still jobs out there but are getting harder and harder to find due to the strain welfare is putting on the ecconomy. So Bottom line is that it isn’t the the innovation driven by the free market system that is the problem, it is the extensive burden put on the ecconomy by wastefull government spending.

Well, even though the doctor thought you were a med seeker, he should have still checked you out. I find what he did as very unethical. I will say this, though: in the future I wouldn’t tell anyone what meds work for you or that you are seeking meds for pain relief until AFTER the doctor exams you. This way they have done an H&P and already understand the situation before getting to pain meds.
That’s probably a good idea. I told him I’d been in the ER before and had received toradol and it had worked. I thought he would treat me as someone who deserved at least a modicum of respect. Some physicians are into this “god complex” and they don’t want mere patients telling them what is wrong. I wanted him to know that although I was in severe pain I was not asking for opiates as I had plenty of them already. I knew exactly what I needed. I think this particular physician probably had fallen for some stories before and I feel bad about that. People who go from ER to ER and from doctor to doctor seeking opiates or whatever give those of us who really need pain medication a bad reputation.

He did apologize. I’ll give him credit for that. But I obviously mishandled it and so did he. Of course I can use the excuse that I was in so much pain that I wasn’t thinking clearly. I just wanted the pain to stop so much and when he walked away from me after telling me there were “real patients who need me” I was in shock.

I should just let it go, anyway. I got my toradol and now I’m switching to medical marijuana anyway and I’m sort of getting used to severe pain, although I still hate it. We all have crosses to bear and chronic pain is one of mine.

Until they completely cut out abortion funding from the healthcare bill, we can’t pass it. When that happens, I may not like the bill, but I’ll support it if the USCCB supports it.
Tim, I’m sorry that I missed your post. I like your signature very much. Could you please tell me where you got it?

Thanks! 🙂

Hi All, the government runs the post office, fannie mae, freddie mac, and medicare. They are all losing huge amounts of money. Do we really want the corruptocrats to be in charge of healthcare. The back room deals and sellouts that have taken place this week in the senate show they are out of their minds with power and greed. We have a president who gave our taxes to any country outside our borders, to murder babies, as his first official act. Any thing he might do that is positive for this country, is cancelled out by that first act.
We are bankrupt for lack of moral leadership, in both houses and the presidency. If they are not reigned in, we will also be bankrupt monetarily before the end of 2010.
Before some one calls me a right wing ext. let me say I am 1st, last and always, CATHOLIC. Holy Mother Church and her teachings are at the forfront of my thinking and any actions I might take intrest in always. That said I believe there are 1000s of poor who choose to be so. Born into a welfare check and staying there for life is not acceptable. Welfare should be a hand up, not a hand out. This great land is great because of free enterprise, not government handouts. One must be responsible for himself at some point in his life. The Constitution is 8 pages long. The senate version of healthcare reform is 2000 pages of who knows what. In those pages I have no doubt, there lies a viper, in abortion, just waiting to strike, and have me and you paying for it with tax dollars. How much innocent blood of infants must be poured on liberal alters, before catholics wake up and start voteing their faith. Is it more important to be democrat than to be catholic? The last election says yes. 54% of supposed catholic christians voted for this present slap to the face of GOD. I was democrat for 50 years. When the clintons had the whitehouse immorality ruled the day and I could no longer be Catholic and dem. I am presently independent, but will only vote prolife. I pray for all catholics, that they would stand up for Jesus first, always. The only way to stop the dems. and make the party like it was and should be is to not vote for any leftwinger it puts forth. When it returns to it working man roots, vote it in. As long as it does everything from the far left, then the radicals rule it and no one can support it and the church at the same time. The futher it goes to the left, the more depraved it becomes. Healthcare doesnt need government style reform. It needs free market reform. Govt. regulations created the mess it is in now. Less govt. is better govt.
I wish everyone a Blessed Christmas. If you voted for this horror, go to confession, then to Mass and the EUCHRIST, and live your faith. Blessings. Garland

I have been denied coverage by over twenty insurance companies across half a dozen states. Explain to me how the free market is going to suddenly make them want to sell me a policy that doesn’t cost greater than 75% of my income? They deny me because they are free to do so and they will continue to do so until I die. I am on my second bankruptcy from medical bills, working on my third. I am only 29.

The insurance companies do not controll your income. So they can not be held accountable for the ratio of their prices to your income. You are also free to ban with others in your situation to create an insurance company. If you say that is impossible because your situation is so rare, then there is no reason to destroy our entire countries medical system for such a rare situation. Instead allow the ample charity that is being hijacked by leaches to be used to address your situation.

Situations like mine are not rare, but every single person I know in this situation, their medical bills are larger than their incomes. Exactly how do you believe that hundreds, if not thousands of people who all have bills larger than their incomes EVERY YEAR will somehow get a lower price by banding together? That’s simply absurd.

Some people have these costs EVERY year, there’s no randomness involved in it that would lower cost, it’s EVERY year. EVERY year my medical bills are greater than my income. It has never been below my income, every single year of my adult life, I have had more medical bills than my entire income.

using your words:
If everyone you know is in this situation it is probably not a perfect representation of society as a whole but if you do not know a single person who can pay their medical bills, then you are desccribing a situation I knew was comming. The growth of available medicine and the constant fight towards immortality and perfect health has reached the point where available medical treatements will consume the entirety of our productive resources. So it is impossible to meet your “needs”. (remember this is using the facts as you laid them out above.) Because total health care can not be funded what are we willing to give up per portion of health care. Do you advocate that no child get any presents on Christmas so you can live one extra day? one extra year? I personally am willing to sacrifice a few years of longevity to see that my children get presents on Christmas. You have been advocating taking from others to extend your life. What do you consider as the approprtiate burden society should bear to extend a life per day?

If you are that much into the being conservative, then you know that money is printed out of thin air with the value of it controled by insiders and not by markets, thus money supply and value of it have no connect. Therefore with the current system with nothing backing the dollar up the insiders can print our way out of debt if they so decide. All the national debt is is an entry in a ledger book, and can be wiped away when they feel like it. There are insider forces controling both parties that get their way. Instead of worrying about future debt, take advantage of their corrupt ystem and make the most of it.

Ah, I knew this was coming. Would you just have me commit suicide then, for the ‘betterment of society’? Since my existence is oh so great a burden on your POCKETBOOK? You are making the same arguments you have in the past lambasted Obama for. You want to give me a pain pill, something to just make it go away, so I will sleep forever.

Nevermind the drugs, unsubsidized I might add, cost less than a hundred dollars a month in other countries, but over 2000 a month here.

They would extend my life twenty to thirty YEARS and they would be productive years. Meanwhile, now I have become nearly invalid, disabled and an utter drag on every taxpayer here in the current system.

Amd the solutions are there, but Americans are stubborn and would much rather fail doing thing their stupid idiodic way than succede doing things someone elses way. Americans don’t worship the true God, they worship business. And the business man worhsips mutitasking. America is no more christian than anyone else. Those who are repsonsible for the rejections that lead to Pathia get is this prediciment had better fear for their souls. Too givie everyone a hint, when the sheep are lined up on the right and the goats on the left of God, they will be amugnst the goats for sure.

I am not asking to take anything from you . You are the one who is asking to take from others. Every dollar I have represents a portion of my life. You are the one who is advocating the taking of life not me.

Where did God say to steal for the betterment of others?

You asked me to put a price on my life.

Where did God say to steal for the betterment of others?
Where did God say it was OK for a party to revoke a legal contract, full well knowing it will make the person toxic to all contracts in the future, thus condemning them to a lifetime of debt and poverty? Oh, and get billion dollar stock bonuses for doing it!

You asked me to put a price on my life.
You are asking that we pay that price so we should have a right to know what it is, right?

I do presume you do not believe that all other people on this plannet live for the sole purpose of funding your health.

Obviously never to my knowledge. If such an event happened you have grounds for a law suit.

It happens all the time, it’s called rescission. It’s legal. It happened to me when I was less than a year old and again when I was 17. Technically you could say it was done to my father, as it was his contract. The insurance companies decided I was too expensive, found some loopholes and kicked us out of the contract.

tauntermedia.com/2009/07/28/unconscionable-math/

Someone did some math on why it’s not ‘rare’ like people keep trying to say. It’s rare…if you’re healthy, if you’re sick, depending on how sick, it could be as high as 50% you will experience rescission. I’ve experienced it twice in my life already. My mother experienced it while she had cancer. A coworker experienced it while he fought cancer. Several other intersex people I know experienced it.

We all experience it for the same reason, the insurance company realizes that we’re expensive and tries to back out of the contract, by any means necessary, after the fact.

Edit: When I was less than a year old, they dumped me. The justification was because my parents left the gender on the insurance paperwork blank. This was of course because they were still working on assigning me, but that was enough for the insurance company to dump us entirely and legally.
