I don’t put to much stock in NDEs as who knows what can make the brain react in strange ways. Dreams are a proof of that. Several years after my first husband died, I remarried., and several months after that I had quite a few dreams that my first husband was walking up the sidewalk to the door and I made my second husband leave before he got here, different scenery but same theme. Of course I never told my second husband about the dreams and I never wrote a book about it either! So I doubt they will ever make a movie on it. God Bless, Memaw

I wouldn’t be to closed minded there Memaw…ofcourse we don’t need a movie or some testimony from someone regarding the afterlife to confirm what we believe (or should believe if we truly have faith), however. and…true skeptics will argue hypoexemia (lack of oxygen in the blood) orcourse effecting mentation (how we think)…however, If you have the time and are so inclined, you might avail yourself of a very interesting story told by a Neuro Surgeon who at best was a novel Christian who, by his own admission merely went through the motions…had a remarkable experience…his brain was mush…pus…he had bacterial meningitis…(I am a med. professional not trying to condescend or get overly tech)…an nfection of the lining of the central nervous system…he literally had no brain waves consistant with dreaming…they had circled the wagons and were about to pull the plud, literally…pls, if for no other reason, curiosity,if you like to read…Dr. Ebon Alexander, M.D. a professor of Neurosurgery from the east coast…an academic…Proof of Heaven…give it a read…pretty ineresting…I was fascinated primarily because he is a scientist…not to discount countless others of all walks of life…PAX

The fact he returned to life shows that his head had not “turned to mush.”

NDEs will never be provable as anything beyond a tantalizing possibility.

ICXC NIKA.

It’s not the Catholic Church that saves, or the protestant church. It’s Jesus. So NDE’s don’t have to necessarily lead the person to become a catholic.

.
Either you don’t know Catholic dogma about this or you willfully reject it. It is the CHurch who saves. It is the way Jesus set it up. And though non Catholics can have a hope of salvation they WILL be saved through the Church.

How do you reconcile this view you have with the sacraments? How does a non Catholic die in a state of grace? Ignorance can only be accountable for so much. I know that without the sacraments I have little hope of salvation. No person in mortal sin will ever reach heaven so how does a non Catholic cleanse their soul Unless there are many forms of Church teaching you reject. Like the concept of mortal sin, or Extra Ecclesiam nulla salus.

I think God is beyond religion. Religion is just a human creation. We are saved throught Christ, not the Catholic Church nor the protestant church. I don’t think protestants will burn in hell because they don’t accept the catholic teachings. But that’s just my view, and I’m entitled to have my view just as you are entitled to have yours.

About the concept of mortal sin I agree with it I just don’t think masturbation is something grave. If you tell me it’s a venial sin then I’m much more likely to agree.

Do you have any other source for that other than “your own personal theology” Because I have 2000 years of CHrist’s Church that says different. What say you of the sacramets that the other churches do not have access to? Do you believe in the Eucharist, confession etc? And how does one navigate this life without those sacraments and an authority bigger than “I think” for the big issues? Why are you Catholic?

The main reason I’m a catholic is because I think catholics are more reasonable than protestants. But it may be cultural because I was raised as a catholic. And man I’m sorry if I can’t belive that masturbation is a mortal sin. Because when I compare it with things that I find to be really grave, or mortal sin, such as murder or adultery, masturbation seems so trivial. That’s all.

I suppose Sunday obligation is also trivial though God chose to put honoring him in the commandments.

I am sorry your faith is not true belief but rather cultural. Religion is more than a reasonable set of rules. It is the way man worship’s his creator at the deepest level.

And considering that you are at odds with the Church in the most important matters of faith. Salvation and how one attains heaven. I just wondered why you identify with something you do not believe in the single most important matter known to man’s heart and the single greatest service of the Christian religion. Who is God and how to get to heaven. The Church disagrees with you on the most important aspects of belief. What an odd position for someone who puts a premium on “reasonableness”🤷

I’m not at odds with the Church in the most important matters of faith. I believe there is heaven, purgatory and hell, I believe I’m a sinner, I believe my sins are forgiven through my faith in Jesus Christ, I believe I need to pursue sanctification and do my best to stay away from sin. I believe that I need to confess my sins, I need to pray…

I believe in God I believe Jesus is the way the truth and the life.

What made me believe in God and Jesus is the fact that I suffered a lot of demonic oppression and when you know that demons are real it’s much easier to also believe God is real.

I sure didn’t ask to be oppressed by demons but it happened to me and if it weren’t for that I don’t know if today I’d be a believer.

Sorry if my English is not perfect, it’s not my first language. I’m from Brazil (the most catholic country in the world as far as I know).

I argue that denying mortal sin (masturbation) and the teaching authority of the Church (the CCC) and the concept of the Church altogether being more knowledgeable than you about matters of faith go against the things you typed.

Your English is excellent and your posts are more grammatically correct than mine. It is your theology and logic that I cannot reconcile. I have no idea about Brazil being the “most Catholic country” If numbers are the barometer then perhaps. If sexual ethics are the barometer then I would say just as Catholic as the US. We have our fair share of lust over theology.😉

I agree with the Church on the most important issues of faith. Masturbation being a mortal or venial sin is just a detail, don’t you think?

Thank you, glad to know my English doesn’t suck. 😃 I don’t know if Brazil is more or less lustful than the US, probably more… I’m afraid my country has a bad reputation regarding this one. But well anyway at least in numbers we are the most catholic country in the world. You can’t reconcile with my theology and logic but anyway I see you as my brother in faith. 🙂 Peace and God bless.

Not at all! Unconfessed mortal sin will land you in Hell. With the demons. Hardly a detail. The difference could not be more stark. The stakes could not be more important. Detail? Sounds exactly like what the dark one would have us believe about a sin. Lust, is a huge huge deal. And sexual impurity is so important Jesus even took it to the realm of even looking at someone with lust is mortal and adulterous. Most masturbation falls into that category. Details? nothing could be further from the truth. Jesus directly contradicts your thinking. Deny the Church, Deny the sin, Deny the Authority. But do not deny God.

I hope that is inaccurate, as the thought of going into permanent darkness is hideous to me!
.
Just to clarify one point – the woman who related her NDE experience to me did not say that permanent darkness was heaven. She went on to a place of light, but I don’t remember the rest of it.
I wouldn’t like darkness either – I think that was the journey through the tunnel.

I referred before to THE CALL where people are actually called to the religious life. Some actually have heard a voice telling them this is what God wants of them. They are not suffering from oxygen deprivation. Something happens because they’re more than willing to give up all and serve Christ.

Ditto for my relative who announced to all that the funeral would be on Monday. She announced this on Friday having come out of a coma or a really deep sleep. She was dying from cancer. She asked those around her if the funeral was over. Regaining from the shock of that question and from unexpected consciousness, they said, “No.” She responded, “Oh, it will be on Monday.” Sure enough she died the next day and her funeral was on Monday. She had terminal cancer.

Hospice nurses experience this kind of thing regularly. They actually will instruct the family not to be surprised if the patient sees loved ones who have passed. Personally, I think it is wonderful that there is someone there on the other side ready to walk them home. I think it would help them to let go of this life. It’s a blessing.

Does this mean there isn’t a Purgatory? No.
I agree. I have cared for the elderly and my own family members during the time they were dying. Every single one of them started “talking” to family members who had died before them, including those that died while they were in the hospital and which no one told them had died. They also start talking about God, a coming journey and having to “go home.” Most of the time I have found these folks to depart with a sense of peace and joy on their faces at the end.

I knew a priest that was terminally ill, and about two weeks prior to his death he told me he was having “a really good week and was full of energy. This meant of course, he explained further, that he would die the next week.” He did. If you ever work with someone who is dying there is often a week prior to death that they seem to really rebound and gain a lot of energy. He knew this and was able to predict his death this way.

I have witnessed too many people talking to deceased relatives, speaking of God and their journey home during their death process to believe that folks don’t have NDE’s. I find nothing unreasonable about it.

:yup:👍 An elderly gentleman was caring for his bedridden wife who was dying from cancer. She was dying and a family member stayed by her bed. She rose suddenly and walked to the bedroom door much to her husband’s chagrin. “Helen, what are you doing? Get back in bed.” She stood by the door and looked out for a few minutes then turned and went back to her bed. “That was grandpa. He’s coming for me but said not now. Later.”

Good one! My grandmother actually kept asking me why I was taking so long to pack the trailer and her suitcase because “Dad” was waiting. She was referring to my grandfather (her husband) who had passed 13 years earlier. They loved to go camping and so did our family, My dad is named after his father.

Those are not the same as NED’s. My Mom when dying of cancer and unable to talk, sorta woke up and saw the lady visiting another patient in the room and she immediately thought it was my oldest sister who was unable to be there and was “sooo happy to see her” and the lady was kind enough to go along with it and Mom died peacefully thinking she got to see her first born. God Bless, Memaw
