I was just thinking about that. I do have temper issues, and I hold strong opinions. I could blame my upbringing or my Scottish/German heritage, but that would be pathetic (at best). I humbly apologize for flying off the handle (please note the complete sincerity of this apology). I do believe that the majority of people in the SSPX are very sincere in their desire to preserve the ancient Tradition of Holy Mother Church. I think the Archbishop went about it the wrong way, but I do not question his motives. Again, please accept my deepest apologies for my absolutely indefensible behavior over the last few days.

Rosa Mystica, Ora Pro Nobis.
Tommy, I’m of pure southern italian blood. I understand perfectly!!

God bless you for this post. Your apologies are accepted and appreciated.

We can disagree, even vehemently so. But we can be pleasant!

Thank you again.

And with the recent scandals in the Church are we to equate these disordered souls with the reality of Christ’s Church? I should think not. These particular posts of yours are not entirely different. I would beg you to reconsider.
Would you deny that some have equated these disordered souls with the reality of Christ’s Church? I am not saying that this is what should happen, but that it does happen. I am not saying that Emmit should have any personal failings held against the Society, but that I expect some people to do so. I meant to express concern and sympathy for him being in this situation, not to judge him.

Thank you for this. St. Thomas More is one of my favourite Saints and I have found it distressing to see his name attached to your posts. I have some pretty bad temper issues myself, so I can relate to your difficulties.
He is my patron. I spent some time reflecting on his life, and how utterly displeased he must be with my behavior.

His profile does state:

Of course, anyone can call themselves anything they want to, but I am much less inclined to visit an SSPX service as a result.
But Stylites, some of your posts have been less than shall we say polite. Wouldn’t it be silly, based on that odd post of yours if someone chose not to enter your Parish because of them? Wouldn’t you be like, grow up and get over it?

If that really stopped you from entering an SSPX Chapel your presence would be missed.

I’m just really not a fan of appealing to the lowest common denominator. That brings everything down. When appealing to the higher denominator, it elevates.

You continue to place a burden on Emmit’s back which isn’t his. You are free to disagree with him, but its time to let it go floresco. For either justice’s or charity’s sake. You decide.

That’s the beauty of asking for forgiveness. The slate is wiped clean. How proud your Patron must be of you tonight, Tommy!

I maintain a couple of Blogs. (Don’t worry, no lambasting of the SSPX appears on any of them ;)) Anyways, one of them is a “Catholic Quote of the Day” and I figured you peeps might be interested in the most recent entry

So you believe a person should be lambasted for a poor choice of words before getting clarification? Isn’t that a shoot first, ask questions later mentality?
No, I don’t think he should have been lambasted and thought that some posters were being overly harsh in their reaction. But I did not think it accurate to claim that he had done nothing wrong at all.

I have come to respect your opinions, but I just don’t see this. As I see it, I was trying to help him with a burden he is already carrying. If Emmit has a problem with what I wrote, I will have to re-evaluate.

Fair enough. Harsh reactions all around. All around.

The problem is that I just don’t believe it is your place to offer that kind of help, at the very least to offer it publically. (Or is it publicly?)

I too have a healthy respect for you, floresco, in all sincerity. Peace between us?

I have the nothing against the SSPX people personally, but they attack the Vatican and modern Church teachings all the time as being too lax. They are opposed to religious liberty and openness to the modern world/dialogue with al sides. If the SSPX were to get control in the RCC, would they try to do away with Vatican II and return us to the inquisition? I’m not trying to slander them, but the group says that these are things that the admire, support, and would like to bring back to the modern world. Should we Vatican II Catholics, while extending an arm of friendship be suckered into completely being taken over by them (Like the Lebanese Christians did with the Muslims they let into their country)?

Very nice, Tommy. Years ago I kept a similar blog. Its been so long I doubt its still there. And I like the bookshelves! Are you getting a Master’s?

The SSPX, and to a lesser degree, the TLM, are hot-button issues that people feel passionately about (the Charismatic Movement is another). Due to our fallen nature, we are more likely to interpret things as an attack, slight, insult, etc on these kinds of issues. Perceived attacks result in counter-attacks, and the next thing you know we have a full-scale brouhaha on our hands with lines drawn and sides chosen. Perhaps we could start a thread on how to discuss these kinds of issues reasonably and charitably. There is a lot of ecumenical talk theses days. How can we expect to resolve our differences with Lutherans, Methodists, etc if we cannot resolve our differences within Catholicism?

Masters of Theology and Christian Ministry from Franciscan, and possibly Seminary afterwards. I am still discerning. For the record, if I do go to seminary, I want to do whatever it takes to be able to celebrate the TLM. If parishioners want it, a pastor should be able to make it happen for them, at least once in a while.

You are probably right that it would have been more appropriate to write that privately.

Of course there is peace between us. Why would I hold it against you that you disagreed with me? Especially when you were courteous and reasonable about it.

I only went one time to our local SSPX. Despite the priest rolling thru the service like an auctioneer, I quite liked it.

As I reported in another thread, the sweet feeling of peace and adoration that came over me as I knelt at the altar rail was unequaled in any experience I have had.

I comend the folks at the SSPX for keeping the flame of the Latin rite alive. I even rather enjoy knowing that to go there, I need to take greater care in what I chose to wear meaning is the top not low cut ect.

I am planning on attending rosary there tomorrow. I will likely go back for another service at least once a month for a while just to take it in.

Hi Emmit, Great thread!

Awhile back I went to the SSPX’ website and signed up for their free material. About a week later I received a box in the mail full of books and other goodies. Very informative and helped me to understand the SSPX better.

I have alot of respect for Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre and who know’s, maybe someday, when all this mess is cleaned up, he will be canonized a saint.

I can’t wait until you guys have normal status again in the Church. We should all be praying for this:signofcross:.

If anyone truly wants to understand why the SSPX exist, then I highly recommend you read, “an open letter to confused Catholics”. Great book.

No. Not until the Catholic Church endorses the actions of AB Lefebvre. I stood back for a time, but this encroaches too closely on SSPX recruitment, which is strictly forbidden and will not go unchallenged.

I am scarcely a “confused” Catholic. Again, the phrase “highly recommended” is what prompted this comment. If someone “highly recommended” anything questionable, I would do the same.
