You had a problem with bowing, yeah?
Well lets see what scripture has to say on the matter.

Posture in Prayer, Veneration and Worship
Code:
Deut. 5:9 - God's command, **"you shall not bow down to them" means** *"do not worship them."* But not all bowing is worship. Here God's command is connected to **false worship**.
Rev. 3:9 - Jesus said people would bow down before the faithful members of the church of Philadelphia. This bowing before the faithful is not worship.

Gen. 19:1 - Lot** bowed down to the ground in veneration** before two angels in Sodom.

Gen. 42:6 - Joseph’s brothers bow before Joseph** (a man)** with the face to the ground.

Jos. 5:14 - Joshua fell to the ground prostrate in veneration before an** angel**.

1 Sam. 28:14 - Saul bows down before Samuel (a man) with his face to the ground in honor and veneration.

1 Kings 1:23 - the prophet Nathan bows down before King David (a man).

2 Kings 2:15 - the sons of the prophets bow down to Elisha (a man) at Jericho.

1 Chron. 21:21 - Ornan the Jebusite did obeisance to king David (a man) with his face to the ground.

2 Chron. 29:29-30 - King Hezekiah and the assembly venerate the altar (an object) by bowing down in worship before the sin offerings.

Tobit 12:16 - Tobiah and Tobit fell down to the ground in veneration before the angel Raphael.

Judith 14:7 - Achior the Ammonite **kneels before Judith venerating **her ( a woman) and praising God.

Psalm 138:2 - David bows down before God’s Holy Temple (an object).

Dan. 2:46 - the** king fell down on his face** paying homage to Daniel (a man) and commands that an offering be made to him.

Dan. 8:17 - Daniel fell down prostrate in veneration before the angel Gabriel.

1 Macc. 4:40,55 - Judas and the faithful fell face down to the ground to praise heaven and worship God.

I don’t think I got an answer to an earlier question.

Was it idoloatry in the days that men bowed to women?

I am a Protest-Baptist, and I do not believen Catholocism for many reasons, here are some questions I’d like answered:
  1. What makes the pope so important?
The Pope is the successor of St. Peter, (see Encyclopedia Brittanica under the topic of Papacy) the Catholic Bishops are the successors of the apostles. The Pope is the vicar on earth of Jesus Christ. Jesus gave the keys of the kingdom of heaven and the power to bind and loose on earth (to St.Peter), while Jesus in heaven will bind and loose from heaven, This is Jesus guarantee that when the Pope teaches on faith and morals these teachings are infallible without error because Jesus is the head of the Catholic church in heaven, and the Catholic church is the body of Jesus Christ on earth. This is the communion of saints.
  1. Didn’t yall believe he couldn’t commit sin once a time?
Yes, and our first Pope St. Peter, denied Jesus 3x’s. Our Popes and Bishops are not free from sinning, they still have their free will. No Catholic never believed a Pope could not sin. The protection the Pope has is from the Holy Spirit to protect him from teaching doctrinal error on the Christian faith and morals, this is called “excathedra”. Many misunderstand this teaching from Jesus he gave to the Pope, and rumor misunderstandings, like you just did, about the Pope never could sin once.
  1. What is Catholic views on Protest-Baptists?
**The Protestants are our seperated brethern, many of them have the sacraments, but may be invalid, because lack of a valid priesthood, succession to the apostles, or refuse the authority of the Vicar of Jesus Christ, and subjected themselves to schism. The Baptists are bible believing Christians, They broke from the protestant Churches, and left the sacraments. The once saved, and only the bible theology is all that is needed for salvation. Both of their founders come from Catholic backgrounds, and protested the 2000 year Catholic Christian faith and Traditions from the Apostles themselves. **
  1. Do Catholics believe you have to pray through the saints? Why?
The Catholic church doesn’t force any Catholic to have a devotion to any saint or pray to a saint. The Catholic believes in the doctrine of the Communion of Saints. We believe God is the God of the living not the dead, for whether they are awake (living on earth) or asleep (resting in the earth), they are all alive to God who loves us. Remember when Moses and Elijah visited Jesus at the Transfiguration? This is communion of saints being revealed in scripture. So to ask a saint who lived the Christian walk to pray for us, is the same as asking our living relatives to pray for us on earth, for to the Catholic they are all alive in God.

**My recommendation of a good book to read on Catholic topics, is a Catechism of the Catholic church. Just ask any question of the Catholic church, and look up the contents or topic in the index, and read the meanings and have a bible ready, because the Catechism will show where things are in the bible relating to your topic or question.

Peace be with you**

@ qui est ce: Well, it looked prideful, if I knew my history? History of what exactly? The catholic church? If I was catholic, I would know it, but I am not. btw: if I am rude, sorry.

@ holy_wood: That names people who have bowed, but that doesn’t tell me to bow, does it? If it does, I am missing it, but if it does, please point otu hwere, and I will read it, thanks for the scripture references 🙂

@JRKH: I saw a man on tv, when I stayed up too long this morning called “Robert J Fox” something of a Catholic priest or such, rather liked him, he gave me the scripture for the wine and bread.

You are not rude if you earnestly seek answers. History of what exactly? History. Study history, and you will will find the truth. Catholics are not afraid of history. If you want to know more about the Church and Christianity, study history. Go back to the 1st Century AD where the Church Fathers, those who were students of St. John the Apostle wrote. Here is one, St. Ignatio\us of Antioch:

"* Besides his Latin name, Ignatius, he also called himself Theophorus (“God Bearer”), and tradition says he was one of the children Jesus took in His arms and blessed. St. Ignatius was most likely a disciple of the Apostle John.[2]

St. Ignatius is one of the Apostolic Fathers (the earliest authoritative group of the Church Fathers). He based his authority on living his life in imitation of Christ."* (Wikipedia)

He also taught the Real Presence in the Eucharist.

Well, history I do not think you could defeat me in American History, Military History. Christian History, I think you could beat me.

It’s not a matter of “beating” you, it’s a matter of truth. To be honest, I have been a believer all my life. Only as an adult did my intellect support my faith. If you love history, I think you will enjoy the history of your Christian faith. Try it.

Is the one on this website good? I found a article on it, read it, right?

Not sure to which one you are referring, but many of the ones given by Catholics earlier are fair portrayals of Catholic Church Teachings. I simply ask you to refer to the Catechism regarding Church Teachings, and not non Catholics, many of whom misrepresent what the CC teaches.

lol, I’ll go find stuff on this website.

Just so you know, in case you have any historical questions, I work as a professor of history at a small private college in the South. My specialty is in Latin America, and I have a sub-specialty in American history, but I teach pretty much everything, to be honest.

I would HIGHLY recommend the book **“Catholicism for Dummies” **to you. It is written by two Catholic priests from the Catholic TV network, EWTN. It covers an amazing number of topics in an extremely easy to read fashion. (On a side note, do NOT get the similarly named “Idiot’s Guide to Catholicism”, which is decidedly skewed toward an extremely liberal view of the faith, and in fact, contains several serious factual errors.)

Well, I might get it, if I can ever get from the library, they seem to hold a grudge to me for late charges, even though I paid them in full…

I am honestly liking Catholocism, I mean so much makes sense that I thought was crazy/stupid before.

btw: to the poster that said I was callin jesus crazy about the papacy, I wasn’t calling jesus crazy…

So, because I do not understand why someone has to eat bread and drink wine to get christ to come to them, I think jesus is a liar?
Have you read the 6th chapter of John’s Gospel yet? Read the whole chapter, and try to remember that Jesus was 🙂 inclined to :yup: say what He meant and He:yup: meant what He said.
My you Catholics are good at putting words in people’s mouths. When have I ever denied these words of Jesus? Please point out the post or apologize for this ridiculous accusation.
I would like to say, that I am, in fact, not Catholic.
I am popularly referred to in these parts as “Your Friendly Neighborhood Methodist”.
But you see, you did say, in post #83,

ChristianKnight:
btw: How does drinking wine and bread mean jesus’s body? Thats crazy, I mean Jesus is everywhere, why should you eat his blood and body, to get him to come? or am I reading this wrong lol
See what I mean? You read John 6, and it is Jesus who said that. Not me, not any of the Catholics here. The plain, literal meaning of the text–of Jesus’ own words.🤷 I dunno…It just sure sounded like you were saying that the idea was crazy, but it’s not MY idea; it’s **God’**s idea…
I’m just doing my best, :blushing: “unprofitable servant” that I am, to point out when someone is denying Jesus’ words, that is just plain wrong…We have to obey Him; not question what He tells us. (Even when we don’t understand it).
I came here to ask questions, I have been told most of my life as a Baptist, that Catholics are not evil, but brothers in christ. I would ask to some of you, I will not mention names cause thats rude, to stop being rude, I do not think I have been rude, if I have I ask for you to tell me, and I will tell you I am sorry.

Are their any websites, that I can learn more about these topics:

The pope
Wine and Bread

.
I highly recommend the home site of Catholic Answers. Just scroll up–all the way up–and click on “library”. You can do a search there.
So, KJV and NIT don’t have all the books?
Not since the 19th Century. Since then, only Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, & (most) Anglican Bibles have had the whole Bible. The others are kinda the “condensed version”.
what book does?
I recommend the RSV-CE for a start. Iit should be close to what you are used to.
When you say “go home” you mean when he went to heaven?
:yup:
(the whole bible is important of course)
That’s why Bishop Fulton Sheen used to say, 😃 “When you buy a Bible, it is a good idea to count the books, just to make sure that they are all there!!”

Zooey,
I think you should look at your quotations in your post here. You’re quoting two different people as if they are the same.

James

Last night I went to the Adoration Chapel to pray. At a little before 3AM an Asian couple came in. I smiled at them. They were not the regular replacments for me. The man came up to me and could not speak a word of English, but was trying to say something. He was pointing to himself, but I could not undertand a word. Then he pointed to the sign in book, so I figured out he wanted me to sign him in. He said the word Korea so I figured out he was Korean. Then finally he said “three to four” and pointed to himself and the book. So I asked him his name and he showed me a card and I signed him in. Then he bowed to me and I bowed back to him. I thnk he was saying thank you. I was saying no problem you are welcome. I said a prayer for them and left.

I wonder if the Protestant on this thread who bows to no man thinks this was idolatry and I wonder if he thinks the billions of Asians who bow back and forth to one another are gulity of idolatry.

The anti bowing sentiment comes from being a modern American more than anytihng else. Even in western culture in the past everyone bowed as a sign of respect. How anyone would call this worshipping idols is ridiculous.

I think I have made a mistake here. I didn’t mean bow, I meant get on hands and knees, or something of that sort. Sorry for being a fool, sorry. I hope this hasn’t angered/confused some of you, cause I am confusing to myself too much anyways.

@zoeey: lol count all of the books lol, I am gonna get a bible like that hopefully soon, but um, whats it called? lol
