NOT THE POTATO SACK THING AGAIN!!!:banghead:
Modest clothing does NOT have to look like a potato sack! Actually, modest clothing tends to be more feminine, flowing, graceful and beautiful than immodest clothing. MANY men have stated that they find modest clothing very attractive in a pure way. Shannon, please don’t be discouraged, you will not look like you are wearing a potato sack if you dress modestly! On the contrary, you will look all the more beautiful!
I am a Catholic teen too, I’ve had some luck at mainstream stores such as Marshalls and Kohls, you just have to look a lot.🙂
I did not mean that modest clothing needs to look like a potato sack. Only that teenage boys will look at you no matter what you are wearing.
Immodest clothing can cause problems. I almost failed my algebra regents because of immodest clothing. The girl sitting in front of me was wearing a halter with no bra. Every time she leaned forward to write…well you get the idea. It was very distracting.

Personally, I think a white cotton summer dress is one of the most beautiful and sexy things a woman can wear. If course that might have something to do with the fact that they are practically see through in the right light. So if you buy one pick up a slip to go with it.
Cheers

Underwear isn’t considered appropriate to wear in public and I’d probably get a lot of weird stares from both men and women. A bikini however, IS considered appropriate to wear to places like the beach or the pool. Needless to say, I wear a bikini instead.
What’s the difference between wearing a bra and panties and a bikini? They cover up the same things. Just saying. 🤷

The difference is, one is underwear, one isn’t. It is appropriate to go swimming in swimming attire. It is not appropriate to go swimming in your underwear. The fact that they cover up the same amount doesn’t mean anything.

Would you consider it appropriate to go to Church wearing thermal underpants and a thermal undershirt?

Why not? They cover up just as much as a nice button down and khakis.

I’m sorry I misunderstood you.
If teenage boys are going to be looking at us anyway, doesn’t that mean that we have all the more reason to dress modestly? A girl should want boys to look at her and think she’s beautiful, not “hot.”

What’s wrong with the word “hot?”

It’s just another word for physically attractive - aka, beautiful.

PS - no one is telling you to dress immodestly. we just don’t have the same extreme views of what is modest as you do.

I’d rather a man say I am beautiful instead of hot or pretty. But that is just my opinion, and I feel more like a lady when a man says you are beautiful verbally.

I like it when my husband uses different words depending on what mood he’s in 🙂

beautiful, pretty, hot, gorgeous, sexy, lovely, etc etc… they’re all different ways of saying the same thing - physically attractive.

I like em all. Using only one all the time isn’t as fun for me personally, I suppose. 😊

Because some articles of clothing can look decent on someone while not looking all too classy on someone else. We are all of different shapes and sizes, and we usually tend to dress accordingly.

For example: If I had bigger breasts, I probably wouldn’t be able to wear a lot of the shirts I wear, bc it would expose that which should be covered. But since mine are small enough, everything is covered up just as much as it should be, and it looks ok.

Same goes for length of skirts or shorts. I personally can get away with wearing mini skirts because I have very long, thin legs, and small “assets” if you will, and so wearing a mini skirt doesn’t expose anything that shouldn’t be exposed.
It sounds like you are making modest and attractive the same thing. One might not be able to wear the same size or exact design but if a woman is on a beach or other appropriate place she should be able wear shorts and tank top and look just as classy as you even if she ample assets. Body type doesn’t factor in when it comes to modesty. If you mean attractive, okay then, but let’s acknowledge that that is subjective
Do you have anything to say about all the other points I made? It seems odd that of my huge comment you took this one little detail without questioning the rest of it. I hope this means everything else at least makes sense to you and that you can see the bigger picture here. 🙂
I noted it because you said it twice and I felt it was it was implied before. That, and I don’t think it has anything to do with modesty.
Nope.

How can you tell the difference especially from a distance?

That’s true, but I prefer the word beautiful because it is the only one of those words that is used to describe the soul. We don’t call the essence of a person “hot” or any similar word. Speaking strictly of physical appearance, you are right, the words are interchangable.🙂 I would prefer a young man to use a word that desribed my person rather than my body.

PS - I know no one is trying to tell me to dress in any way that I don’t want to:). I have said very little about my personal standards of modesty other than that I don’t approve of bikinis and mini skirts, so I find it strange that you think them extreme. 🤷

Yes, beautiful is a fitting term for a lady. I would feel degraded if someone called me hot, but once again that is opinion.

It also depends on who is saying the words to you: a person you love (romantic or friendship type of love) or a complete stranger.

I’ve had a few male friends say I am hot, but they know I would rather be told I am beautiful and use the appropriate terms in reference to me.

‘Elven Maid’ had a good point from this young man, and you response seems to be the same thing I hear from so many women who claim the fault is on the man. …
And what does any of this have to do with helping the OP find modest clothes?

We probably ran her off long ago. 😦

I am a fairly regular Catholic teenage girl. I enjoy going out and looking for clothes, at least, when I can find something modest enough. Recently, I have been trying to find a website or a store where I can get modest clothes. I have had some luck, but most of the things I have found seem more like things that my mother would wear.🤷 Does anyone know of a store/website where I can find clothing that is modest, but fits with my age a bit more? Any help is most appreciated! 🙂
HI, I’m 19 so I can relate to you! I have found one big thing that helps is buying things such as a dress or skirt one size up so that they are longer, I often do that at places like forever 21. Opaque tights can be your best friend! I am constantly cruising the clearance aisles of places like Target for tights, I wear them almost every day in the winter. As far as online goes I am very fond of: www.pinupgirlclothing.com (Don’t let the name scare you! Great place to get dresses that hit below the knee in classic styles!) and also www.unique-vintage.com!

The reality is–no one leads another to sin. .
Now that we’ve all run the poor OP off: Where do you get that from?

Absolutely people can be led by others to sin! Count on it!

Don’t eek: — What I meant was the choice to sin is a personal choice.

As someone else put it:
Nobody sins who doesn’t want to sin.

Clothing certainly isn’t one-size-fits-all. To use your first example, to remain modest, shirt size must increase proportionally as breast size increases.

I respectfully disagree. Someone who has a bigger bootie or bigger breasts is going to need more material there to cover up those private parts. They can still wear shorts and tank tops, of course, but the length of the shorts and the coverage of the tank might need to be a little bit more ample in order to keep certain things covered.

I was not trying to say who is or is not attractive, nor was I trying to insult anyone. I was merely stating a fact.

The “protecting our men from lust” rationale makes my eyes glaze over as well as the “Mary dressed modestly” argument.

I do think it’s important to dress modestly so that we represent our Lord in the best way possible. I also don’t think it is that hard to dress modestly. Being modest can mean just throwing a sweater over a tank top or putting a long- or short sleeved tee under a shirt or sun dress… I really don’t think it’s that hard.

I don’t understand how long legs would allow you to get away with more? If anything, long legs get attention.🤷

How can you tell the difference between a bathing suit and underwear??

Uhhh… I’m pretty sure I’d know it and everyone else would know it if someone shows up to the beach in their underwear rather than swimming attire.
Difference between a black satin bra and panty set and a black bikini besides, the string that ties across your neck, is minimal.

(when I’m picking out what clothes I’m gonna wear before heading out in public, I don’t choose according to what people might or might not notice from “a distance”)

I guess I find it pretty extreme when someone says they don’t approve of 2 piece swimming attire or skirts that shows the knees. But that’s just me. 🤷
