Help with debating a Mormon

To get out is quite simple: just walk out the door and never to return. It is that simple. It certainly doesn’t take 6 years to walk out a door.
Funny, everyother post here you are talking about “How posters should show more respect in their posts” yet here as Paul explains his difficulty in leaving the Mormon church you show none…respect that is.

Very disrespectful to the difficulty one goes through when changing ones life in order to grow closer to his God. No understanding what so ever in regards to the difficulty he may have encountered with family and freinds as he decided to get out of the LDS faith. Just a very cold and calluse remark “Just leave” almost as to say just leave the Mormon Church is better with out you. I could almost sense that undertone in that statement.

Once again here we have a guy who feels like he’s not getting the “Respect” he deserves. Respect is earned friend not given, with remarks as un-understanding and bitter as this it doesn’t seem like you think you should have to earn any respect, you should just get it for showing up.

If you’re having a hard time debating with a mormon & having a hard time reasoning with them, just think for a second & take one of the M’s away & the truth reveals itself. You’ll understand what you’re dealing with at that point.

Respectfully,

Jason

Ormons? 🙂 Come now, we hold to truth so powerful that resort to petty insults is neither necessary nor becoming (not that it ever is). Challenge their ideas and convict their errors, call them out in proper terms, and use hyperbole or strong words (but not curses) if you wish. But there is no need to cast aspersions on their intelligence, however unfortunate their vulnerability to puns.

Remember that our Lord, even when correcting grave error and having the benefit of seeing the truth of men’s souls, did not insult intelligence. He called people out on pride, dishonesty, and other sins, but also recognized that the inability for many to see truth was due to spiritual blindness or obstacles–not a lack of intelligence.

Yes, Paul, you are so right. It is amazing just how you figured it all out. I am truely amazed. Unfortunately, the mormons are known for their strong families and moral virtues inside the family. In fact, thanks to the mormons, gay marriage was not instituted in California.
Hmm? I thought it was the voters in California, and the Supreme Court of California. That’s not to say that the LDS Church did not play a wonderful part in stumping for the passage of Prop. 8. But to lay claim that the LDS Church is entirely responsible… Well, I think at best it was a great effort on their part that contributed to the passage of the Proposition. The Knights of Columbus did much to pass the Proposition as well.
why me:
But yes, Paul, the mormon church is the most antifamily church in christiandom and in all the world’s religions. Yes, Paul, it is the family busting church even though mormons have less divorce than most christian faiths. But that is okay. It is still a ffamily busting church.
I thought Paul’s comments were directed to the afterlife, as opposed to what happens here on earth. But what do I know. 🤷

Peace,
Robert

Agreed. I let my temper slip with Zerinus a while back, but I apologized. We’re all human and everyone slips from time to time when it comes to charity. Just remember that it’s hard to have a real dialogue with someone you’re insulting. They tend to tune you out. 😉

Peace,
Robert

One thing that I have found odd about the Mormon faith is the fact that while both the Bible and the Book of Mormon (though the BoM is a plagiarized novel IMO) are monotheistic, the Mormon faith is polytheistic. Why is that?

The Bible has several passages stating that there is only ONE God, but the BoM does as well, see Alma 11:28-29, "Now Zeezrom said: “Is there more than one God?” And he answered, “No.

Curious.

Strange how you don’t admonish StLawrence to be more respectful. If he were a mormon you would. 🙂
–Sorry, but I was never “admonished” for there is no reason to admonish me for anything I’ve said here about mormons. Just getting the truth out there, is all.

If you wish to counter anything I’ve said as “untrue”, please let me know.

I know mormonism and their cream-puff dreams better than most in that cult. They ain’t Christian because of their radical belief in Joe’s Myth and every other element outside of true Christian Doctrine that they folly with.

Pretty basic. Recovery from mormonism is only a click away. (about 30,000 visitors check it each day). The Truth is powerful. 👍

That’s because for Mormons, there is one “Godhead”. Also, the Father is God, so they also say that there is only one Father (God).

–Well, that’s part of it. Depends on the universe. They also believe in multiple gods. 🙂
Here is what mormons believe:
(quoted from here…)

*** God was once a man like us.
  • God has a tangible body of flesh and bone.
  • God lives on a planet near the star Kolob.
  • God (“Heavenly Father”) has at least one wife, our “Mother in Heaven,” but she is so holy that we are not to discuss her nor pray to her.
  • Jesus was married.
  • We can become like God and rule over our own universe.
  • There are many gods, ruling over their own worlds.
  • Jesus and Satan (“Lucifer”) are brothers, and they are our brothers - we are all spirit children of Heavenly Father
  • Jesus Christ was conceived by God the Father by having sex with Mary, who was temporarily his wife.
  • We should not pray to Jesus, nor try to feel a personal relationship with him.**

I hereby admonish you! :p:D Yay, verily, thus saith the Lord, go forth and conquereth! :knight2:

–Joe wrote that mess and if you check HERE, you will find that the book of mormon has been revised over 3,900 times. ***Ooopsie. ***

**Mark Twain had it right when he called the bk of mormon… “chloroform in print.” **

All other great quotes are HERE (most from ex-mormons).

The Truth is so entirely refreshing!
FYI: Joey didn’t do the writing…he dictated it from behind a curtain and someone else wrote it. The credit should go to someone else and not dear old Joe. Besides, Joe said it was “the most correct book ever written”. Those revisions had to be copying or printing errors ( huh? ).

If I remember correctly, you have admonished mormons for their behavior or you have made reference to the influence of their church on their behavior which was never positive. Now of course, I understand what Lawrence gets a pass, the poster is catholic.

But you do know that if any mormon would refer to the pope as Pope Benny he or she would get hit hard on the thread. And if any mormon would refer to the protestant leaders as Marty Luther, Jack Wesley, Jack Knox or Jock Calvin would also get hit hard by the moderators for insulting our protestant brothers and sisters. But mormons deserve no such respect as their first prophet is refered to as Joe Smith by stlawrence. And you would be the first to condemn the mormon for doing so, and equating his or her behavior with the lds church.

We can not be hypocritical now, right? Or is Pope Benny okay to write on this board? 🤷

For the record, I have no problem with “Pope Benny.” :D:thumbsup:
I affectionately call him B-16. Like a bomber.
“Pope” is, after all, a term of affectionate origin. “Papa Benny” is just fine 🙂

I don’t mind either. 👍 Sometimes I say Pope Ben.

-It’s far too late to even care. Joey was a con man who put together books of bogus dreams with zero substance. He was in cahoots with other buddies out to make a buck. He had his “seer” stone charade in full gear. There is no other ‘supplemental book’ to the Bible that means a shred of anything; nada; zilch… Anyone with any religious sense realizes that. Someone from upstate NY comes around 1800+ years after the word of God is already etched in stone and says he wants to “restore Christianity”? He is a putz, pure and simple. I don’t know if Joe’s bar beer (he had a bar in his home) was of any note, but he is phonier than any fake prophet of his time.

I just want more info on who first wrote the first pizza, spaghetti, lasagna and hummus recipes. That’s all I need. Those writings are genious!

More great reading HERE…

And if I would refer to Pope Benny in the tone of disrespect as StLawrence refers to Joseph Smith? Would you care? No one calls him as his or her disrespect. And that does not say much for the catholic church, by the way nor for catholics who post on the mormon threads.

Sure, call him Pope Benny in a tone of disrespect. 🤷 I try not to get worked up over such issues, especially after posting on forums where that happens regularly and is allowed (cult, romish popery, roman state, droids, priests called homosexuals, etc.) I try to discuss doctrinal issues, not who’s calling who names. I don’t always succeed, but that’s what I try to do. People can say what they want to say about the Catholic Church, its members and leaders. 🤷

The poster who would do it on this forum would feel the heat and would eventually be banned. The catholic posters would not tolerate it and report that poster quickly and immediately. Such a character would be hijacking good threads with his or her tone and wording. And if a mormon would do it, I would be the first to call him or her out on it. We all need to be sensitive to one another’s beliefs. And Lawrence getting away with it on this thread and on the other mormon threads shows the character of many catholics on these mormon threads.

🤷 Who cares about their character? (and this is an internet forum, who knows if they’re actually Catholic, Mormon, etc). Is that why we’re here, to judge the character of others? Remember, you don’t have to post if you don’t like it here, and you can report someone if you think they need to be reported (as can the Mormon posters. If the Catholics would report a Mormon for saying something, the Mormons can report Catholics as well). You don’t have to tell other people what to do in reference to other posters. Do what you think you need to do. If someone else doesn’t feel it’s necessary to admonish someone, whatever. And really, the constant discussion of what the Catholics are and aren’t doing and saying (which seems to happen in every thread you post in) on a thread is also “hijacking”.
