No, I don’t think you’re right. I think you’re just looking for an argument.:clapping: :clapping: :clapping: :clapping:

I’m not insecure about my faith. :clapping: If the Holy Spirit leads a non-Catholic to Catholicism, glory be to God.

Oh good, I see that we are working very hard on our Catholic good will and ecumenical works. I bet we will get a ton of converts and have much more unity this way.

Good Lord, one word for this thread, offensive.

Hello, anamchara,

Thank you for your post.

Can true ecumenicalism occur without agreement on Christian truths? Is it the, ”telling the truth” that is “offensive”, or is it that… some find the truth, to be offensive?

Why would anyone find the truth, especially Christian truth, offensive?

Peace 🙂

amanchara,
I really appreciate your desire for unity. I share it, and I believe that there are some Catholics and noncatholics here that undermine unity by bashing others. So, I thank you for your efforts for charity by all here.
Jimmy, who I genuinely enjoy, can be a bit harsh at times (really, he’s harmless as a kitten 🙂 ). But on this one I took it as more humorous needling.

I would say, the WAY some people “tell” the truth is often offensive and abrasive, putting enmity between the person telling and the person hearing the “telling.”

Today’s inbox from Zenit was especially timely:
ROME, JULY 18, 2008 (Zenit.org).- Jesus sketched the situation of the Church in the world with three parables. (Weeds & Seeds, this Sunday’s gospel)
In antiquity, Jesus’ parable was the object of a memorable dispute that it is very important to keep in mind also today. There were sectarian spirits, the Donatists, who resolved the matter in a simplistic way: On one hand was the Church (their church) made up wholly and solely of the perfect; on the other was the world full of children of the evil one, without hope of salvation.
St. Augustine opposed them: The field, he explained, is, indeed, the world, but it is also the Church, the place in which saints and sinners live side-by-side, and in which there is room to grow and to be converted. “The evildoers,” he said, “exist in this way either so that they will be converted, or because through them the good exercise patience.”
Hence the scandals that every now and then shake the Church should sadden, but not surprise us. The Church is made up of human persons, not wholly and solely of saints. There are weeds also in every one of us, not only in the world and in the Church, and this should render us less ready to point the finger.

Jon,
There is a big difference between a humorous needling and out and out bashing. Most Protestants could give a rip about “links”. As they too believe they have cornered the market on the “truth”. In this particular thread, as other threads by this OP, I find that “baiting” vs. “needling” is the order of the day. You admit to his “harshness”, which I agree, however he takes it a step further, by casting his line out to non catholics in an effort to mock the tenants of their faith. How, (as anamchara pointed out) does this offer good will and ecumenical works? Answer: It doesn’t, not even close.

How sad for those who are asking questions about the Catholic faith or those who are thinking of coming home. When there are threads like this, the would be converts are driven away by “arrogance” and “baiting”, while those who are thinking of coming home, have their tail between their legs like a penitent dog.

I understand. I guess I find Jimmy less caustic than some others who are here. As I said, I like him. I’m here for just the reason you stated; to learn more about the CC as I struggle with some things going on in my church. There are some who are here that really make it difficult to even consider Catholicism, if you are leaning in that direction. OTOH, there are many charitable Catholics here, so this is not an indictment of Catholics in general.
Thanks to you and amanchara for you loving, charitable approach.

I am not the thread topic here. Please stay on topic and remain charitable in your responses. Additionally, please refrain from name-calling, personal attacks and personal insults. If you have a link to post, or have a relevant comment to make, then please make it.

If you don’t like the titles of my threads, then please feel free to start one of your own, I look for to reading it.

Thanks for your cooperation. God loves you and so do I, so please “give-it a rest”.

“Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us”

May God bless you all.

Jimmy, if you’re not the thread topic, why in the world would you post the above post which turns out to be the biggest picture I’ve ever seen here?

Why would you bait and needle (Julianna’s words, not mine) with your thread titles?

To answer your question: I have no problem with Protestants visiting the links you posted. Why would I? Or anyone else?

You sure you’re ok, man? Just concerned.

Anamchara (is that Celtic?),

Thank you for your words. Reminds me of the words of another Catholic, Thomas á Kempis: “In things essential, unity; in doubtful, liberty; in all things, charity.”

Hello O.S. Luke,

What is this suppose to mean? You have no idea who I am and you do not know me personally, so please stop it.

Another nice (off-topic) jab, by O.S. Luke.

You’re funny… I am more “Ok” than most here and I have the documents to prove it… So, there is no reason for you to be concerned about me. Is there a reason why we should be “concerned” about you?

You aren’t insecure, are you? I ask this question, because all of your comments towards me here at CAF, are personal in nature. If you can defend your own beliefs, which should be no problem for you, based on the “higher education” that you just love to brag about, then please do so. Please do not address me personally.

I am sorry about the picture size, I can’t figure out how to make them smaller.

Take care.

Insecure? No. Puzzled? Yes. What kind of documents do you have to “prove” that you’re ok? I just wondered if you were upset or mad, that’s all.

You’re original post said, “Here are some links that Protestants don’t want you to visit…Am I right?” (emphasis mine).

That sounds personal to me - in other words, do we all agree with you? Some of us don’t. Again, I just wondered if you were mad or upset.

The Lord be with you, Jimmy.

Well, since you insist on conversing, off-topic, maybe you could tell us what this means -

“As a religious order, we are a dispersed community of women and men, lay and clergy, from many different denominations”

Where is the “community,” where there are “many different denominations”? Why is it that Catholics are the only ones who are not accepted by multi-denominational or non-denominational sects?

“Different” denominations are “different”, because they all have different beliefs, right?

Thank you, I thought you might be able to answer this…maybe not, we’ll see.

Peace

There are Catholics in the Order too, Jimmy.

Just consider this: it may well be that we can’t think alike; but can we not love alike?” In my own Methodist tradition, John Wesley once preached a sermon, “A Catholic Spirit,” saying these same words.

One of my seminary profs said this:
What [Wesley] said was that a catholic spirit (and a generous orthodoxy) does not mean a lowest common denominator Christianity in which beliefs and practices are unimportant. It means a Christianity in which, though diverse and at times contradictory in our beliefs and practices, we nonetheless love one another in Jesus Christ, our common Lord. And, perhaps, we just might learn from one another as well. - The Rev. Dr. Hal Knight, “John Wesley and the Emerging Church.”
Just consider it, Jimmy.

NIce Post,

“we nonetheless love one another in Jesus Christ, our common Lord”

This is something that I think we can both agree on…

quote: O.S. Luke: I have no problem with Protestants visiting the links you posted. Why would I? Or anyone else?
Good answer:

To add further. I have never met a Protestant who would tell me not to visit links on the internet.

As a “free thinking” human being, I will choose what I want. It is called “thinking for yourself”.

My mother is a Protestant, and she raised my siblings and I through all of our sacraments and asked questions of our parish priest if need be. She has no problem with the Catholic Church, to her it is a difference of doctrine. She “respects” the Catholic Church, and I respect hers…as did my father.

The picture you posted was highly offensive, however, I am not one to run to the moderators and whine. Post what you will.

You do not pay my bills, feed or clothe me, you do not decide my fate, or my faith journey. You especially do not decide the fate of Protestants on this earth.

To speak plainly, you are man, a human being, fallable, capable of making mistakes. And posting this thread against another Christian faith community does not show Catholics at their best. The links you posted are “baiting”, plain and simple…
to make a long story short…

No, you are NOT right…
