I feel like diversity for the position of the most powerful person in the free world is an important indicator to mark and celebrate. For me, it highlights how far we have come as a people and as a nation. Our country didn’t even consider black people fully human for many years and women haven’t been allowed to vote for even a century!

I cried when Obama was elected. I would have voted for him regardless of his race, but it felt humbling and beautiful to be part of a country that was ready to elect a black man in the face of our history together, black and white. I imagine if we elect Hillary, I will have a similar reaction.

Like you, though, I would not vote for someone just because of race, gender, orientation. But I do love that those things aren’t restricted in the political world in 2016.
I couldn’t agree more. I vote on issues. But I cried tears of joy too for the same reasons you did, LS. And my mother was in declining health, less than 5 mos later she passed on, and I still remembering telling her that our nation had just elected our first African American President. And like you, I’m likely to have the same reaction if Hillary is elected.

Why are you bringing up Trump on the Hillary thread? Why not talk about Trump on the Trump thread?
Which singular thread would you propose someone use if they are comparing and contrasting the 2 frontrunners?

I agree that parents teach their children their values. Is there someone else who should do that and, if so, who?
Well, Hillary Clinton did say “it takes a village”.

Someone on here pointed out though “we home school our kids for we have seen the village and don’t want it raising our kids”.

What if Ted Cruz becomes the first Hispanic president

The war in Iraq did not fail because of Obama. Aside from the fact that it wasn’t a very good idea in the first place and there were no weapons of mass destruction (WMD), It failed because the occupation and reconstruction of Iraq were completely mismanaged by the Bush administration. And the withdrawal date was negotiated by the Bush administration, not the Obama administration. The US was asked by the Iraqi government which we put in place to withdraw and had no legal basis in international law for remaining in Iraq.
Actually, Bush warned in 2007 that an untimely withdrawal from Iraq would be disastrous.

The power vacuum that the Obama Administration left is what led to the rise of ISIS. Their foreign policy has been one disaster after another.
Obama, coming into office at the beginning of the biggest recession since World War II, added $6.563 trillion (not a whole lot more than what Bush added) or a 55.4% increase.
That is incorrect.

Not for the rights of the unborn. 😦
Actually Democrats and Hillary are fighting for the unborn. They recognize the unborn will have so many needs once born and outside of the womb. So they fight for child care, educational opportunity, for programs to aid their mothers and families, for healthcare…

For the supposed right to kill them at any time for any reason… For the government to make sure that there are absolutely no limits placed on that “right”… To cheer and applaud those who do the killing…

What if Ted Cruz becomes the first Hispanic president
I have my doubts that he will but if he does, I would not overlook the historical significance. But so will it be of historical significance if Julian Castro becomes our first Latino Vice President. Which I actually think is more likely than Cruz. Cruz is just too extreme to the far right to garner enough votes imo. It simply, I believe, is not where the majority of Americans are.

Which singular thread would you propose someone use if they are comparing and contrasting the 2 frontrunners?
There is no comparison because unlike Hillary, Trump has never demanded that I change my religion.

you are referring to the unborn given the chance to live.

the other poster is referring to the unborn who are killed in the womb.

Why would a Christian, ESPECIALLY a Catholic, take advice on how to raise kids from someone who is pro-abortion, had one child, and apparently expected “the village” to take care of it?

I am not harassing you. Please don’t make assumptions of what I may or may not think of you.I am merely refuting you consistent argument that Hillary is not pro abortion.Am I not allowed to to do that?
Hillary is DEFINITELY pro-abortion!

Trying to make abortion sound like it ISN’T a baby killing business is designed to appease consciences that need to WAKE UP and recognize the holocaust of abortion for what it actually is.

It is a blessing. Good people and, clearly, good parents. My respect for our current First Family is boundless. I suspect our country will never forget the grace with which they have handled their “station.” It is truly a gift to us all.
So then, does this mean Michelle is proud of our country yet, or…?

Hilary does NOT fight for everyone! She ignores the most vulnerable -** the unborn child in the womb

**
Sadly, this is true.

And as a Christian, I would not want to be resposible for electing a candidate who supports legislation that can harm others.

I am sure a 6 year old would not make the decision alone to leave a church - so I am sure it was her mother’s idea that she not be influenced by Baptist teaching that abortion is a sin.
Exactly…

Especially since a 6 year old couldn’t get there by herself. Unless, of course, the village was on speed-dial.

Hillary, to my knowledge has never forced any woman to have an abortion, nor does she advocate for forced abortions. The people responsible for abortions are the pregnant women who make the decision to have them.

If someone comes over to my house and throws a rock through the window, I don’t say, “Oh, Hillary is responsible!” The person who threw the rock is responsible. It’s the same with people who have abortions and decide to kill their own unborn children. They are the ones responsible, not Hillary or Obama or the Republicans who upheld Roe v Wade.
WE pay taxes that support informing the young that they can obtain birth control and abortions.

WHY should these businesses benefit from taxpayer dollars?

I will never forget when she said that! and I think she meant it!
I also remember when she and the prez were seated at some public ceremony and the flag was being honored. She leaned over and said "all this for a d— flag.
