You left out the abolition of slavery. 🙂
The Republican party that abolished slavery in the 19th century is not the same Republican party that exists now. It completely transformed itself into something different during the Civil Rights Movement through its so called “Southern strategy”:
During the 1950s and 1960s, the African-American Civil Rights Movement achieved significant progress in its push for desegregation in the Southern United States. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965, in particular, largely dismantled the system of Jim Crow laws that had enforced legal (or de jure) segregation in the South since the end of the Reconstruction Era. During this period, Republican politicians such as Presidential candidate Richard Nixon worked to attract southern white conservative voters, most of whom had traditionally supported the Democratic Party, to the Republican Party,[4] and Senator Barry Goldwater won the five formerly Confederate states of the Deep South (Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, and South Carolina) in the 1964 presidential election. In the 1968 presidential campaign, Nixon won Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, and Tennessee, all former Confederate states, contributing to the electoral realignment that saw many white, southern voters shift allegiance from the Democratic Party to the Republican Party during this period.

What a cherry picked list. It doesn’t even list Bill Clinton’s disbarment and impeachment for intentionally false testimony.
Yes, impeachment is there, but Clinton wasn’t disbarred. Close, but not quite. But the list does contain Clinton’s impeachment.

“Nixon escaped disbarment in two instances, but not the third, by surrendering his license. Clinton resigned his Supreme Court license in order to avoid disbarment. He was suspended in Arkansas, but not disbarred.”

Closed minds are usually accompanied by closed ears but have open mouths. This condition is usually brought about by praising people and their behaviors who are completely undeserving of praise. Factual matters are distorted in order, for the promoter to continue spewing argument in favor of their chosen champion. “Taken out of context” is a repeated cop out.

Pretending to have a love of unborn life, and yet be eager to abandon the need to prevent abortion through the discussion and education of God’s Love, is knowingly or unknowingly, spreading evil. So, criticizing those who will not stop speaking against abortion on this Catholic forum, by claiming “enough already”, “talk about other issues”, doesn’t fit.

Hillary Clinton is covered from head to toe in promoting abortion up to and including the birth of the baby. She and the Democrat Party endorse the organization Planned Parenthood (that traffics in selling the baby’s body parts) and garnered tremendous amounts of money. This has been exposed and revolted the country but still has not been eradicated.

Amen. There simply is no way a Catholic should vote for Hillary Clinton. People would like us to shut about it because its interferes with their rationalizations as to why it is OK to vote in support of evil.

Excellent post!

I understand why you can’t stand Hillary Clinton, and that’s fine, but I don’t rationalize, I do not feel the need to rationalize or justify. I don’t agree with her completely about abortion, but I don’t see her as “evil.” That seems to me to be a complete lack of charity, a charity all Catholics are called upon to give to one another.

He surrendored his license in order to avoid the penalties of disbarment.
The Arkansas Supreme Court suspended Clinton’s Arkansas law license in April 2000. On January 19, 2001, Clinton agreed to a five-year suspension and a $25,000 fine in order to avoid disbarment and to end the investigation of Independent Counsel Robert Ray (Starr’s successor). On October 1, 2001, Clinton’s U.S. Supreme Court law license was suspended, with 40 days to contest his disbarment. On November 9, 2001, the last day for Clinton to contest the disbarment, he opted to resign from the Supreme Court Bar, surrendering his license, rather than facing penalties related to disbarment.
In the end, Independent Counsel Ray said:
“The Independent Counsel’s judgment that sufficient evidence existed to prosecute President Clinton was confirmed by President Clinton’s admissions and by evidence showing that he engaged in conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice.”

I didn’t say to stop talking about it. I asked why, if you care so much about stopping abortion, you aren’t talking to people you might have a chance of converting to your way of thinking instead of people here whose opinions are pretty much set in stone.

I think people should promote their causes, but it seems wasted effort to me to attempt to promote them to people who are either (1) already on your side, or (2) cannot be converted to your side. In a way, it’s letting down the unborn. That’s how I see it. But I never told anyone what to say or not to say.

I don’t agree with her completely about abortion, but I don’t see her as “evil.” That seems to me to be a complete lack of charity, a charity all Catholics are called upon to give to one another.

Christ will bring the Final Judgement to all souls - He will decide the evil. We must discern the actions of ourselves and others, whether they are right/good or wrong/evil, and measure the depth - in order to avoid committing sin or choosing the near occasion of sin.

Charity is complete when we inform a person they are wrong/evil through reason. If a person continues to choose wrong/evil - we need to pray for them and continue our way.

No one needs to be chastised over discerning abortion and pro aborts as engaging in evil.

I know that. I posted it. I’m talking about Arkansas. He still has a license to practice law in Arkansas, though when you’re seventy and get $20 million for writing one book, why practice law? I have no desire to write a book, but I’d do it over practicing law, especially if someone were going to give me $20 million.
Good point about writing a book versus practicing law, but the Supreme Court of every state IS the body that determines whether one gets to keep his license. If you surrender it to the Supreme Court, that’s surrender to the state body regulating law licenses. Clinton’s Arkansas law license WAS surrendered. He might have it back now. I don’t know. Disbarments are rarely forever.

A person’s opinion is almost always “set in stone” until he/she changes it. If one finds that people here have opinions, one should not despair of trying to change them.

We don’t know the state of Hillary Clinton’s soul, and that’s true. However, her position regarding abortion is evil, and there are no two ways about that. We’re quite entitled to say that, indeed, duty bound to say it, and doing so bespeaks no lack of charity.

I think disbarments are forever. Clinton’s license to practice law was suspended, as it should have been, but it has been reinstated:

I was talking about the Supreme Court of the United States. One has a special license to practice there.

I’m sure we could get into a lengthy debate about the motives for JFK’s now famous phone call to MLK’s wife. But even aside from that, there’s also the fact that in our era abortion on demand has become the primary social issue.

A person may think its a waste of time to discuss the war against abortion, but it is not. When persons are identified as furthering abortion and are in positions of power and influence, having huge financial backing, those fighting to save Life need to know who to oppose and what to defeat. Laws have been forced through the courts and the greed of the depraved continue to kill. Attempting to silence knowledge and speech is aiding the enemy.

Free speech (1st Amendment) - Right to Bear Arms (2nd Amendment). There is a darn good reason they are #1 and #2. Most everybody knows this and if they don’t we need to continue talking about it!!

The reason this is,is every other social issue is predicated on one being born in the first place. It really isn’t any more complicated than that. The right to life is an inherent right given by our Creator. So,to those who tire of hearing ad nauseaum the arguments for NOT voting for a pro choice, pro death, pro abort, call it what you will, candidate, the debate is not going away.Especially here on. Catholic Forum.

It doesn’t even make the top ten with most people:

I’m sure it’s number one with most Catholics, but not with most Americans in general.

Homelessness concerns me more. People, including children and babies, are sleeping in cardboard boxes under bridges and lack food and medicine. That should be unthinkable in the richest country in the world.

I agree that the right to be born is an inherent right given by God. The problem in the US is that it isn’t an inherent right according to the Constitution. At least as decided by the Supreme Court whose job it is to interpret the Constitution.
