It’s truly difficult to accept the “official” anti-choice stance that women who have an abortion are murdering a baby, but that this type of murder should be treated differently than other types of child murder, a subject that usually brings out the pitchforks!
Anyone can see the abject logical failure of this position - and it undermines the entire movement.
Trump, a man who has clearly not spent much time contemplating the politics of abortion, chose a quick logical path when he was put on the hot seat. That logic earned him near universal scorn from both sides of the issue.
I actually appreciate Trump’s acknowledgement that woman have agency over their bodies and their decisions. The anti-choice movement grants women no such respect.
At the very least, such mental gymnastics treat women like idiots - we’re somehow stupid enough to be coerced into murder so we must be saved from our own bad decisions. At the worst, it is blind to the way justice works in the US of A. When the State of Florida uncovered evidence that Casey Anthony killed her toddler, the State of Florida did not respond with mercy.
And can you imagine a world where every pregnancy needed to be investigated by law enforcement?!
Because of Trump’s honesty (and the Supreme Court seats that are in play in the future), I believe that the abortion issue will play a key role in the 2016 Presidential race and I don’t think that’s good news for people who want to see a Republican candidate advance to the White House. My opinion only, of course.
